    I know you mentioned at the start of the video that you didn't know where you got the sheets you printed and laminated. This may still be true, but I thought I'd ask to see if you found where they are. It would really help me and the other players at my games. Thanks!

    • @TheHilltopPillbox

      Oh, how I wish I could find them again! My PDF software crashed, so I can't open some of the things on this list, but you might find them in here: boardgamegeek.com/files/thing/61692/page/3?languageid=2184
      Other than that, I simply cannot locate them. I am three computers down the line from when I first got them, and my stored files don't seem to have them, so I will have to take extra-special care of them! Happy hunting, and let us know if you find them!

    Damn tried to look up that gaming store that made the dice and they had switch to helping make masks during the early days of covid but their store burned down and is now closed forever. That’s so tragic.

  • @elwoodbirgden342

    were you playing with the home rule, defender retreats? Because at around 6:20 i see that all three infantry that the french started with in north africa (tunisia algeria morroco) are gathered in algeria, and italy owns tunisia, and italy goes before france...

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good job, spotting that! I know we have played with that rule on occasion, so maybe this was one...? It is also possible that we rolled for the territories (Vichy roll from HBG's GW 1939) and they had to gather in one spot and we neglected to put roundels on. Sorry, too long ago to remember!

    Great vid, great dice... subscribed! Quick question, how was it the 2 GE AAA made it to Romania G1?

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for subscribing! As far as the infantry question goes, they attacked from southern Germany into Yugoslavia, along with one infantry from Romania, then after one round of combat, they all "retreated" to Romania. Quick way to get guys there if you want a G2 attack into Russia. Sometimes it's costly, though, if the Yugoslavs get 4 or 5 hits! Ouch!

    • @siredblood
      @siredblood 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      not the infantry, the AAA.. ya I know the pink pong move, but I saw you have AAA there.... oh, unless your playing with first edition pieces... SE made new units.

    • @kirtpurdy3796
      @kirtpurdy3796 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, yeah, that's the artillery for this version. I now understand the confusion. For AAA, I use the old-school pieces from the original version.

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Some of them are old A&A pieces that I repainted, but the yellow ones are from Historical Board Gaming. Great site for all sorts of pieces, markers, and roundels that spice up the board!

  • @Nova-kq9ek

    What version of the games is that one, those include all those troops or not, I mean as far as I know ther was no french troops in the AandA games but 1914 one, and if it those includes all, what version is than one on the video?

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Commander Stone, thanks for watching and commenting! This version is the combination of Axis and Allies Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940, which then creates Global 1940.
      In Global 1940, France still retains control of its territory, including the colonies, but Germany usually captures Paris on round one, and then they and Italy mop up the rest of France in round two. Hope that helps!

      Hey, don't beat yourself up! It's an honest mistake after seeing so many A&A games where the French are already gonzo!

    I really like those dice. I never thought about something like that. Also where did you get the base markers and the assortment of pieces for neutral armies.

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I got most of the markers and armies from Historical Board Gaming. I get slaughtered with the exchange rate, but the pieces really make the game nice! I also have their 1939 game, which is hidden underneath the 1940 and the paper around the edges. TONS of neato things in that one. I'll try to get a video up for that one, since there are only a couple on the internet and it's worth more than that. (Oh, and I painted some old A&A pieces to make the neutral armies, too!)

    I'm going right to the next episode! We need humor in the A&A community, and the moves are interesting. I noticed your airbase markers seemed a little advanced, the only stealth fighters in WWII were three Ho 229 that never saw combat, although one supposedly did a mock test "dogfight" with an Me 262 and outperformed it.

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was doing some play-testing for HBG, and they sent me a bunch of airbases for that game, which is set in 2025. I'd like to get the WWII bases, but $...

      You got talent my man lol Hey can you tell me the rational for bases providing an additional move? I believe I would eliminate that rule and perhaps make up for it in another way to maintain thier value. What do you think?

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are optional rules for air bases, and you can mix 'n match whatever you choose: scramble to any adjacent zone, add +1 to any defensive fighters, add +1 to any attacking strategic bombers, etc. We sometimes play with the rule that you can build them for 3 IPP, but you MUST land at them. Very helpful to Axis, but Allies, not so much.
      There are many options for bases, but simply put: you can increase attack or defense of certain units, add to the AA value of the territory, change their cost, or any other neato ideas you come up with. Remember, naval ports are usually required to repair capital ships, so that's always handy!
      Whatever you choose, you will know fairly quickly if it gives an advantage to either side, so then you can eliminate your house rule for the next game. I highly recommend writing down your optional rules and then jotting notes down so you remember which were good and which were game-breakers. Enjoy!

    • @davidfreitas3992
      @davidfreitas3992 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the ideas. SO do you agree that the added move bonus makes no sense then or am I missing something? I am working on adding realism based house rules that enhance don't break the game but certainly am not afraid to experiment and mix it up. My ulimate goal is to apply as many of the 1936 concepts alomg with other houserules I see out there and my own as needed to the g 40 game.

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The added move bonus has come under fire lately. I think the intention was to show that a major airbase or naval base would have the support necessary to make longer voyages more realistic than they would be from the middle of nowhere. I don't mind the rule, but if it causes grief in your group, then do away with the bonus movement and maybe lower the price. But, unless there is a real advantage to having a naval or air base, no one will buy them, and you don't want 'dead' pieces in the game. The scramble for air bases and the capital ship repair for naval bases makes them useful, so you could just go with that. Enjoy!

    These accents though

    • @lucahurduzeu7922
      @lucahurduzeu7922 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people might call this racist.

    • @TheHilltopPillbox
      @TheHilltopPillbox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that is a possibility, but for anyone who knows me, they know that there is zero chance of my being a racist.
      Just because I can do different accents (sort of), does not mean that I feel superior to those particular people groups. Now, if I said horrible things about those different ethnic groups, then you could rightfully call me racist.
      A long time ago, I stopped living my life in fear of others' opinions of me. If people want to infer that I am a racist because I can do different accents (sort of), that is their right. I just like using that ability to entertain, and the vast majority of people realize that there is no slight or "cultural appropriation" here, whatever that means.
      In the end, I hope the video is entertaining, and informative!
