- www.stnickbyz.com - The Akathist of Thanksgiving, which is also called Glory to God for All Things, is a treasure left to us by the martyrs of the great persecution of the Russian Church under Soviet Communism. It was found in the personal effects of Father Gregory Petrov who died in the Gulag in 1940. It has been traced back to Metropolitan Tryphon, a prominent spiritual father of the Russian Church at the height of that persecution.

I really appreciate these and listen to the Morning Prayers every morning, the Evening Prayers every night going to sleep, and this one on occasion. They are a treasure. The reader is perfect for this. One would think he's a monk, though I've read about his life elsewhere and that he's a layman.

O Eternal King without beginning, thou who art before all worlds, my Maker, who hast summoned all things from non-being into this life: Bless this day that thou, in thine inscrutable goodness, hast given to me. By the power of thy blessing, enable me at all times in this coming day to speak and act for thee, to thy glory, in thy fear, according to thy will, with a pure spirit, with humility, patience, love, gentleness, peace, courage, wisdom and prayer, aware everywhere of thy presence.
