I hitched a ride from the airport to this Beach with a backpack and tent in1979. The Hawaiian who gave me the ride stalked me and came back the next day well I was on the beach and stole everything. My intuition told me to keep my wallet in my possession. When I returned from the beach everything gone. I hitched back to the airport in my swimming trunks. Luckily there was a store at the airport where I purchased a shirt and pants and caught the next flight back to Denver. The minds of criminals are unbelievable! Who would have thunk that something like that could happen at such a remote beautiful place!
Hey Jeff, you definitely want to rent a Jeep while you're there so you know you won't have issues with the unpaved roads. That's what we did and it was worth it. You have to pull a permit to camp, but while we were there they weren't allowing permits at the time. If they allow it, I would go as far down as you can go. They have bathrooms and showers. Here's the website to pull the permit. dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/parks/kauai/polihale-state-park/
Hi Alexis, I didn't see any signs, but when I looked it up on the State Website it says "Where not prohibited, build fires in the fireplaces and grills provided. Portable stoves or warming devices may be used in designated camping and picnicking areas unless otherwise prohibited. Dump live coals only in designated ash pits or receptacles." dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/administrative-rules/ Hopefully that helps 😀

Wow! That's a crazy story. That was smart to keep your wallet on you. Glad you made it back safe!
Do you have a timestamp for Queen's Pond? Maybe the waves were too big that day...I've seen some pics where you see the reef and the calm pool.
We were there November 9, 2021 in the morning. We couldn't see the reef that day, but that would have been awesome. Hope that helps 😀
Great video! We're thinking of visiting Polihale in mid February, how do you think the road would be? Also, any ideas for good locations to camp?

Do you happen to know the legality of beach fires? As someone who’s been there, maybe you saw signs?

Layed to rest my step father's ashes here.
Sorry for your loss. What a beautiful place to lay him to rest.
My husband was Project Manager of the missile range in 1977
What a beautiful place to go to work. 😃
