- Now that President Biden and Donald Trump have accepted invitations to two televised debates, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell explains why the audience at home might not hear President Biden comment on any of Donald Trump’s criminal cases. Lawrence explains that President Biden is a “more careful lawyer than Richard Nixon” who nearly caused a mistrial when then-President Nixon publicly declared Charles Manson guilty of murder during the Manson trial in 1970.

Debates could be conducted in accord with the logical rules of inference and an astute moderator, knowledgeable in biases and fallacies in which points are deducted, refereeing the dialog or arguments, and thereby determining a winner. There are formal rules for every kind of game or contest. However, debate is one contest that needs more formal structure and fundamental modifications that, if studied and engaged in properly, would produce not only better debaters, but superlative thinkers as well.
