Part of me is glad they didn't compress 10 episodes into 8 when HBO cut back their number just before filming (likely in response to the upcoming writer's strike). When all four seasons are watched back to back, we'll be grateful for it even if we lack at the moment.
@@NukeMarine, no we won’t. We can just skip but all but 2 episodes of S2 or to be more precise, about 17 minutes of the entire S2
@@NukeMarine I think the idea was that they didn't have the whole 10 episodes filmed which is why they made the 8 episodes they had footage of longer in montage.

The Fly episode of Breaking Bad - despite *technically* being filler - had a more satisfying conclusion than the second season of House of the Dragon.
Good filler is enjoyable. Always. It's a refreshing break from the plot and character development while bringing an interesting insight into the world and characters, and when done well, it is always welcomed and has a huge rewatchablility factor since it can usually stand alone.
These badly done set-up episodes give fillers a bad rep.
Some "fillers" step aside from the story, but there's some concept being it, some point to it, beyond just buying time.
Can you say in your epic voice, “There is only one Blade!”

See the main problem is NOT the lack of action, it’s the lack of good written and interesting dialogues and characters.
Its funny how most people crave for the things they hated in the later seasons of got.
Rushed storylines and action over substance.
Instead realising that the boringness doesn’t stem from a lack of action but a lack of good writing.
And exactly this stupid feedback is the reason we only get shitshows

@@agpoland3632 Ehh, I disagree. They occasionally did some stupid stuff for little reason (similar to GoT 5-8) but I'd argue their personalities are mostly intact.
It's just that the character dynamics and dialogues in the earlier seasons of GoT were way more interesting

0:20 This. I’m currently reading The Expanse & it’s insane how the 2 authors who wrote it wrote a 9 book series in the time since George released A Dance with Dragons.
What makes me mad is that one of the authors used to be George’s assistant.
How's the read going ??? I may order a couple books on the Expanse,LOVED the entire series,best sct-fi show to come out since the rebooted Battlestar Galactica show.
If you are that old and already that rich plus the story has (kind of) already been told, the motivation runs low. There won’t be a book. Forget about it.

Like look, you can have build-up and slow episodes, but you need some kinda payoff either in the finale or penultimate episode. You have to build up to SOMETHING.
Instead, all we got was a trailer for next season. Come on. Only saving grace was that mid-season battle.

Yes! It IS a filler season! My thoughts exactly but someone actually said it! We probably had 15 min of action combined for the WHOLE season tops. Unbelievable
The first half of the season was fairly solid but the minute Daemon started having "Are they real, are they not?" visions/dreams/hallucinations I knew we were screwed for the remaining episodes.
Some of it was really compelling but it went on too long and was sometimes too on the nose, like everything else the back half of the season.
They could have done all of that in one episode. They didn't need 4.
the quick cut between Aegon's junk and Otto's gaze is too good!

The worst part is that it is so obvious, which are the two missing episodes that they most have been written at some point. There is clearly one between eps 5 and 6 which would have showed, the Blackwood atrocities in the Riverlands, and the attack on Otto Hightowers caravan. That is why episode 5 seems like set up but itbis followed by ep 6, which is a filler/aftermath episode. Thebother would be a final episode showing the battle of the gullet and set up for Rhaenyra’s entrance into Kings Landing.
