    Once you make a sequence (or a group) use song mode for speeding up/slowing down (making the machine sound human) and to add effects, I used Ensoniq boards since 1985, starting with the Mirage, but loved the TS 10 and 12. Probably played 3,000 gigs with that heavy rascal. TS 10 was almost identical, but didn't have weighted keys, was only 61 notes and lighter.

      I need to mess with song mode. Yeah I should have gotten the TS-10. That 12 is heavy man.

      I had to use a dolly that I pulled with my right hand and used my left hand to hold the keyboard in place to keep it from tipping sideways due to the end cheeks being rounded. Yes, it was definitely a workout getting it to my upstairs.

    I used mine for over 16 years...bought sequences and recorded my own... Did several church musicals with the TS..was easy for me to understand the recording process. Have had a dozen other branded work stations, none as intuitive as the Ensoniq.

      Definitely has a great sequencer! It makes for a great master MIDI keyboard (if you don't mind only 76 keys instead of 88-- I never really miss the other twelve. Once in a while, I'll wish I could stray past the lower and upper limits, but nothing that can't be zoned out with the transpose functions.

      @algallego 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HankCoffey Back again another year later, Hank. How's your recovery from surgery gone? Hope you're back to your guitars and jammin' like you wanted! Just wanted to add a comment about the sequencer as it pertains to the song feature. When you use the song option to string together sequences (12 tracks), the "SONG" option allows you to add another layer of 12 tracks over any number of linked sequences, whether it be one or as many sequences as you want to chain together for playback. So, in all, it would be a 24 track sequencer. I'm not sure, but I think the song option allows you to choose a different set of effects from the sequence effects set-- need to hit the old manual for that one; however, let me know if you need a manual-- I can IM you a *.pdf copy if you'd like. Sorry I didn't think to offer you one a year ago! Keep on jammin on both the guitars and keys!

    You are having a ridiculous amount of fun. Great sounds on the TS-10 and 12. and as you show so effectively, quick sequencing. I checked this link out to see how to get out of step mode recording. Bought a used TS-12 and existing sequences or loaded sequences will record in full replace mode. but if I start a new sequence it enters as step mode. And I can't get out of it. Best sequencer ever, and I used them all, this is simple and intuitive, you work with it and it becomes an extension of your brain!
    If this had more polyphony, more sample memory and a nice analog filter, nothing could beat it.
    Great keyboard as well, not soft but very responsive.

    • @algallego
      @algallego 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shai, did you get to use the TS-10 much? Someone told me it had other features that were not available in the TS-12.

    • @therealniksongs
      @therealniksongs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@algallego The biggest difference is that the TS-10 has polyphonic aftertouch--a great feature that is extremely rare even today! Obviously, it has a synth action while the TS-12 has more of a weighted piano action. I believe both actions were made by Fatar. Don't know why the polyphonic aftertouch was not included on the TS-12; I have to assume some technical incompatibility with the weighted action Ensoniq specified from Fatar. Perhaps an action with this feature was available but would have made the TS-12 more expensive than Ensoniq wanted it to be.
      I miss Ensoniq! They were a great company and produced excellent, distinctive products at reasonable prices. Plus, the company HQ and factory was only a short drive from where I used to live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia! I have a TS-12 and formerly owned an SQ-2 32-voice (that I purchased directly from an Ensoniq sound designer) and a couple of SQ racks. Loved them all--and I agree, best, most easy-to-use and intuitive sequencer I have ever experienced!

    Hank: Thanks, very much for your videos on the TS-12. I finished upgrading my (new-to-me) TS-12, last week with the SQX-70, 8MB RAM, OS 3.10 and Gotek Emulator. Your install vids helped make that happen.
    I have the Ensoniq SCSI board that came with my TS-12, but I don't think I will buy a SCSI SD emulator because it doesn't make sense to have one. Doesn't seem efficient use of time, energy and RAM resources. If I understand, correctly, I have to load the samples into banks 8 or 9. Loading and playing the samples just seems to be a slow process.
    Do you know if loading Sysex sounds would be a good way to load sounds into my Gotek?
    I have Midi-Ox and can load sounds into my Roland JV-1080, easily. I love my 1080 so much, I just bought a second one and a couple extra expansion boards. It makes more sense to me to use my two JV-1080s midied to my TS-12 and my Kurzweil PC2x. I plan on using the TS-12 sequencer, a lot since I'm a guitar player who loves to also write music on keys.
    Interested in your comments on best, efficient sound/patch usage.
    My JV-1080s are SO quick to get to a sound patch and the sounds on the Orchestral Expansion, for example are still amazing.
    Looking forward to your thoughts.
    Could you do a Sysex video for the TS-12/TS-10?
    Thank you, for everything. Your attitude and sense of humor are are great addition to TH-cam.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Don, thanks! If you plan on loading Ensoniq samples into the TS the SCSI is the best way. Samples take forever to load from floppy. The SCSI is fast. TS SCSI is read only. So if you aren't going to load EPS and ASR samples, you don't need it. I haven't messed with SysEx on the TS. In theory I would think you can load from sysex and then save to floppy/gotek. All of my libraries are complete, so I haven't been messing with sysex or technical library management for a while. So I forget details. I'm a guitarist, and I use software synths "in the box". So the few vintage keyboards I have are played very little. I have them in a rack here though. Thanks for your kind words man.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sally, the main outputs on a TS12 are 1/4" tip/ring jacks. So if your mixer has 1/4" inputs, all you need is 1/4" instrument cable. 1 cable for mono. Or 2 cables for left/right stereo. If the mixer inputs are XLR only, you need a cable that's 1/4" one side, XLR the other side.

      @@HankCoffey Sorry, I didn't realize you were the same person! I read somewhere that just any pedal (foot switch) would not work. That it needed to be the Ensoniq SW2 or SW-10 dual foot switch. Do you know how I can tell if I'm using the wrong type of pedal?

      @@ZestyDwightO I don't know. I never use a sustain pedal. I think I hooked up a SW-6 once... briefly. The keyboard was sustaining all the time. The pedal was a dampener. I was thinking it would act the other way around, and the pedal would make it sustain. Maybe there's settings that can change that... i don't know. I'm a guitar player man. lol. The next time I bring a TS home from storage, I'll mess with the sustain pedal. It will probably be a while, because I'm super busy and back to playing guitar more. My hardware keyboards aren't easily accessible.

      Hi Tonny, I do not want my videos on other channels. I appreciate your interest in doing a translation. But I want to keep my videos here. Thanks!
