Hard Money vs Fiat Currency?

  • Monetary regimes (over hundreds of years) have fluctuated between hard money and the Fiat world. Both have their own quirks. In A Fiat world, governments can control the money supply - to stimulate or tighten. In 1971 the U.S. finally moved away from the gold standard, and a controlled central bank made sure the dollar would maintain its value. The disinflationary era it created, which recently ended, did prompt borrowing and credit expansion. Will central banks now tighten to preserve their currency valuation?

I'm betting Gold and the Bric currencies will be better in the future than the Dollar or EURO.
