@Sponge Bob Janikowski could've made it if the conditions had been right. If the wind had been at his back or even without wind, it's very possible for Janikowski to have made that kick. Matt Prater has hit 75+ yarders in practice on occasion. Others have done so as well.
Janikowski was a great kicker, no doubt. The coaches might have thought something like, "Well, on a 76-yd attempt, the ball is spotted at our own 34-yd line, which is almost exactly where we'd kick off from... so, if he can send kickoffs to the endzone for touchbacks, then why not try this one for a FG?" Who does he think he is? Justin Tucker? But seriously, this puts JT's 66 yarder into perspective. Sebastien's kick made it to the 3-yard line where it was caught, so a 63/64-yard kick and it was hooking right by about 10 yards. I wasn’t expecting it to be good, but I was at least expecting a touchback at least. But I guess the wind was pretty strong to have only made it to the 10 yard line
It was 76 yards into the wind. What did you expect? Meanwhile, Janikowski is chilling in his mansion and you are a total nobody living in government housing.
That 76-yard field goal attempt by Sebastian Janikowski for the Oakland Raiders in Week4 of the 2008 NFL season was clearly not into the wind as the game TV broadcast announcer mischaracterized it! You can clearly see on the videotape that the 2 red flags at the top rear of the goal posts/uprights are blown by the wind backward towards the end zone stands and end zone TV camera not forward towards Janikowski!
Imagine the guy up in the production room having to edit the graphic. Producer: They're kicking it from 76! Graphic Guy: The numbers don't go that high!!!
If it was WITH the wind, he possibly had it. With NO wind, he easily has it from 66+ in this scenario. The fact it was INTO the wind and only came up around 10 yards short at 76 yards is OUTSTANDING. Go Raiders!
I believe it he hit a 70 yarder in pregame but they use different harder balls in the actual game witch makes it harder personally if it was a regular ball I think he could hit a 80-90 yard field goal

"76" is a great number. For some reason, when I tighten up my wheel nuts, I torque them to 76 foot-pounds. There were 76 trombones in _The Music Man._ I don't know why, but seventy-six just sounds right. It would have been great if he had made it, and with a strong tailwind, it might have been possible.
I saw him kick every kick at home in college and a few on the road. There is no doubt in my mind he could hit 3 out of 10 from 70 when he is on and no wind at all. I have see him hit it through from the 35 thru the goalposts into the crowd at least 15 times with a running start. BTW when he was in his early twenties watch him run down a few kick returners. He had better than average speed and he would lay a lick on you. He is a big old boy as we say in the south and he came from rough and tumble eastern European soccer.
So much going on in this video. Lane kiffin coaching the raiders, jamarcus russell was the starting qb, Jim nantz saying wind is against sea bass, raider were up 15-0 and went on the lose the game being out scored 28-3 in the second half, and all that’s not even to mention the fact they are trying a 76yd kick.
There are kickers who can hit from 80 yards out under ideal conditions. That is to say, without the helmet and pads on, not being rushed, in good weather conditions. It becomes more difficult when you're facing 11 guys that don't want you to do it and you're weighed down with the regulation gear.

Not going to lie I was hoping it would go i
I wasn’t expecting it to be good, but I was at least expecting a touchback at least. But I guess the wind was pretty strong to have only made it to the 10 yard line
The crazy thing is that his leg was so good that they even thought they could attempt the FG.
When Jamarcus Russell is so bad, they'd rather kick a 76yarder than even allow him to throw a hailmary
30 more yards and he Would've only missed by a lot
That kick was the equivalent of Evel Knievel jumping Snake Cannon. Made it about half way there. Big build up then 💩💩💩
It was 76 yards into the wind. What did you expect? Meanwhile, Janikowski is chilling in his mansion and you are a total nobody living in government housing.
@@ckobo84 Haha right. Clever way to punt I guess.
@@brentshira3373 Like one of your chromosomes. Half way there. But came Down a lottle short.
I’m so confused I was waiting for him to just get drilled
Jamarcus Russell had the NFL’s strongest arm while Sebastian Janikowski had the NFL’s strongest leg that year.
That was quite the powerful duo.
Russell also had the strongest stomach all he did was eat
they also were the fastest team
And the fattest team
And how many Super Bowls did they win?
That 76-yard field goal attempt by Sebastian Janikowski for the Oakland Raiders in Week4 of the 2008 NFL season was clearly not into the wind as the game TV broadcast announcer mischaracterized it! You can clearly see on the videotape that the 2 red flags at the top rear of the goal posts/uprights are blown by the wind backward towards the end zone stands and end zone TV camera not forward towards Janikowski!
The Raiders lead the game 15-0 against San Diego Chargers back in the day and now both teams are in Las Vegas and Los Angeles
I love the fact that sebastian was like... Yeah man no prob...I'll put 3 on the board and well go into halftime
nah
Now I wanna see tuck hit this
What a kick 🦵. Best man he’s a legend
Imagine the guy up in the production room having to edit the graphic.
Producer: They're kicking it from 76!
Graphic Guy: The numbers don't go that high!!!
Justin tucker with the record of 66 yards! Hate the ravens but damn that’s some respect
If it was WITH the wind, he possibly had it.
With NO wind, he easily has it from 66+ in this scenario. The fact it was INTO the wind and only came up around 10 yards short at 76 yards is OUTSTANDING.
Go Raiders!
Didnt look into the wind...the flags on goal posts were going with the kick
The vodka bottles in his back pockets slowed his kick up just enough.
I personally saw Janokowski kick a 75 yard FG during warm ups when he played at FSU..... it happened at UVA Scott Stadium.
I believe it he hit a 70 yarder in pregame but they use different harder balls in the actual game witch makes it harder personally if it was a regular ball I think he could hit a 80-90 yard field goal
These are the type of shenanigans that make us the Raiders these past 20+ years come on Raiders
Gotta love Phil Simms. 76 yard fg “Jim, 5the wind is in his face.” Ya, and there’s also 3/4 of a football field between him and the goalpost.
Those were the days when the NFL was still watchable.
well last Sunday we got something 10 yards shorter
OB JaMarcus Russell of the Raiders was one of the biggest "busts" of all time--he ranks right up there with San Diego's Ryan Leaf
JaMarcus Russell, he could throw a football 60 0:55 yards from his knees!
"with the wind in his face." While the flags on top of the goal post are moving towards the game in the direction of the kick! C'mon man! The wind was to his back!
Who’s here after Justin Tucker made the 66 yard field goal?
Whose here after Justin Tucker just creamed one from 66
Man you must be real confident in your kicker if you’re letting him kick from your own 40
Tom Dempsey hit one from his own 37 to win a game in 1970. 🧐
@@dimwit818 On 11/8/70 he made that kick. I was watching the game @ a friends house on his b & w tv. We we're goin crazy cause this beat our Det. Lions 19-17
@@dimwit818 Equivalent to the modern day 47 yard line as the goal post was in the front of the end zone for Tom's kick. They have since moved the goal post 10 yards back (back of the endzone) so it would not interfere with plays
Oh good, I was hoping someone was paying attention to the location of the goal posts at the time. 😁
I was at the game against the Jets in Oakland when Brett Farve was with the Jets and the game went into OT. The teams went back and forth until he kicked a 57 yrd FG to end the game. At the time it was a NFL record FG. Longest FG to end OT. It still might be a NFL record.
Brandon Aubrey would have made that
Give him credit. Who else in the history of the NFL has ever tried a field goal from that far away?
Justin Tucker could attempt this in Detroit and make it.
This is back when the NFL was interesting smh
1:07 whats the point of even putting up the nets like lets be realistic
@Glenn Beck lol
He’s made them in practice people.
So has Eddie Pinéro. He’s done it for you guys and for the Bears.
The last OG Kicker in that Era
