      Lol, as long as that’s your journals purpose, then that’s totally fine! I need mine to be more than just my task list, cause I also want it to be a goal planner, scheduler, habit builder, reflection space, aaaaand help me bring more balance to my life so I’m not always working 😂 but I’m very much about people using their journal in the way THEY need to, so if they only need it to be for holding tasks so they don’t forget (totally feel you on that) then I’m all about it 💪

    Obviously, I absolutely agree with everything in this video, and I would add a little something that has been extremely efficient for me: it's the order in which you decide what to use or not. For exemple, the reason I discovered bullet journaling in the first place is because, being very sick, my life had become so overwhelming that I was losing vital infos and forgetting appointments that I had a very hard time to obtain in the first place. So I decided that I needed to have all my life organisation condensed in the same place, but I could find no planner that would fit my needs. I began to draw my layouts myself in a notebook, and it was HARD, it was never working right. So I began to do some research on the internet, and oh my god, all the resources! The helpfulness of this community! The ideas! That's how I found you, among others. And now I can sometimes find a new thing someone is using that I want to try (particularly esthetically), but mostly, when I have a need to which I need a solution, there's always someone that has found an idea, or several ideas, that solve my problem! Ok, that was a very long way to say: first reflection on your needs, then problem solving with other people's methods, layouts, organisation tips, etc... not the other way around (except for visual inspiration, obviously... although even that is a solution sometimes, for motivation and selfcare, as you tell us often!) And that's why I love your work, you wonderful problem solver, so thank you again. (Also, your esthaetics talks to mine, and it makes me happy! 🥰)

    • @JashiiCorrin
      @JashiiCorrin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree, that’s a great way to think of it. What’s the problem, what kind of thing do we need that could solve it, what layout inspiration can we take from others to fit to the need, rather than here’s-a-layout-lemme-just-shoehorn-that-into-my-journal-real-quick 😂

    Just did Workshop Week and Ryder Carroll was a guest and brought up an interesting thought, "what would your journal look like if no one could see it?" "Is this procrastination planning?" I decided mine would still be decorated because I really enjoy making it and going back to it day after day. Regarding mistakes it is more fun for me to make a snarky comment and point an arrow to the the mistake or completely ignoring it. He talked about how when he first saw all the decorated journals on Insta and thought they aren't doing it right. As he hung out with those crowds more he learned that the art part of it is therapeutic and motivating for some people. All kinds of people use the method but it's not like you are going to see an accountant post their spreads on Insta, for example. It was an awesome interview! * "bippity bobbity back the truck up" I freaking spit my coffee out!! 🤣😂🤣

    • @JashiiCorrin
      @JashiiCorrin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah, I did feel that earlier on, Ryder didn’t seem too….”supportive” of the more artistically inclined bullet journals. Cool to know he’s come around on that! 😄💜 I’m all for snarky comments in my journal too, haha 😂

    I feel like I'm currently a partial victim of the very first problem. I've been incorporating more *journal* into my journal this month and it's really added another layer. It's easy to think that it's a waste of time if you want to be 'productive', but actually doing the reflection part usually makes the productive part more efficient anyway. I used to have a big problem with #4, but it's coming along. I'm using a page right now partially inspired by your productivity/activity tracker which I've always loved the look of but never successfully utilized. My simplified version is working out though :)

    Perfectionism is one I fall for, especially when it comes to new layouts being tried/made for the first time. But the big one is... some tasks or goals I wanted to do are heavily held back by my fears, making very anxious and putting it avoid to avoid the 'potential' anxiety attack. I have this especially with my current goal; to pick up drawing again.
    Due to the traumatic events I went through online, it has made it really difficult to get back into drawing with how often I've fallen into a rut, talking myself down or negative thoughts and voices taking a hold of me. But... since a few days ago, I managed to finally gather the mental strength to grab my drawing tablet, grab the pen.. and do simple warm-up brush strokes in a new program, and I was so happy to have taken that first BIG step. It's only going to get harder for me personally, but I'm finally keeping track and making proper life goals through the Lv.10 Life spread inspired by you, and I greatly thank you for it~
    Other small tasks or social events I tend to get anxious about with the thought of ''I'll be too exhausted to do anything once I'm back home'' cause I'm somehow a workaholic, always wanting to be doing something. Even though I take time to recharge and rest up, I still beat myself up over it which is something I'm trying to improve to not do.
    On a side note, lowkey tempted to join your Discord with fellow bujo people. None of my friends to bullet journaling so I can't full on talk about it, besides my boyfriend who'll intently listen and try to understand how big of a help is all is for me XD

The "stress" of having a "perfect" bullet journal, and using it like I've done previously, was starting to make me feel sad as I couldn't keep up with it due to lack of energy and motivation. Along the way, I think I forgot my real purpose for even keeping a bullet journal, but this video really resonated with me, and I'm definitely going to be more mindful of how I'm setting up the next months, so that it reflects and suits my life as it is at the moment. 🤦‍♀️ , I check the box of a solid 3 of these…perfectionism, glorified task list, and “researching” so much, I don’t start cause I don’t want to do it wrong. I started Bullet Journaling shortly after Ryder developed the concept years back, and it was very much for work, and was before it became known as also being such a “creative expression planner” with all of the amazing artwork, etc. For me, I never could find a planner that worked well for me for my job…and BuJo solved all of my problems. I did do the positive thing you noted, in that I adjusted things to suit my needs: I didn’t have a table of contents cause I didn’t see the need for it, I used different symbols to denote things like “important” or “move to the next day” from previous habit, so continued to use my own, not Ryders, cause it was confusing to me otherwise, and I mainly kept the journal functional as a planner…and it totally worked for me. I had a very busy, very high stress career, and I’m not an artist. I didn’t have the time or energy to make it “pretty.” I just wanted it to be neat, use really high quality paper/notebook/stationery, and I have pretty handwriting (that sounds like horrible bragging, but I practiced it for years growing up because having pretty and “uniquely my own” handwriting was important to me! It makes me happy, I imagine you and people who watch these videos get that 😊.) Anyway, mine was a bit of a glorified task list, but that was okay because it worked. It also was a way to use my fun pens, “non-professional” pens, and stick in fun things that I wouldn’t have laying around my office for others to see, because “professional!” So the fun stuff made it a relaxing exercise, that was also extremely productive and useful for me. But, I’m retired now (way younger than planned, but life happens) …and I’m still busy, but in a very less structured way than my previous 9-5 M-F structured week. So, with that totally different lifestyle, I’m trying to figure out how to make it work for me now…and how to do more fun things and artistic things, because I have the time for that, and that kind of activity feels mentally good. Problem right now is the perfectionism…so, you gave the great idea in this video for my bullet journal to be a “learning experience”, and so I’m going to view it now as a “practice” journal each month (or week) (or day)…seeing what works, what doesn’t, making mistakes, doing things that wind up being ugly, testing the limits of my “artistic abilities”, and having fun with it!!! (While keeping track of stuff I need to keep track of…) Thank you so much!!!! The words “learning experience” were perfect for me to hear…as then it becomes an educational project to work on and improve over time, and that gets the hamster running on my brain wheel to move to action! Yay!!! Thank you so much!!! You are such a fantastic teacher in that you always explain/do/teach something in a variety of ways so that it reaches everyone’s learning style, and that’s really a gift! I very much appreciate you and your videos, thank you!! (And thanks to Vogel, too…that’s so funny about that copied spread, 🤣)

    I don't think that I can count the glorified to do list as a mistake for me because that was exactly my intention - stop having all these notes and post its flying around and instead gathering all my tasks in one place (and giving the skin on the back of my hand a break from ink). But I do feel like all these ideas of how it "should" be have limited how I use it so I definitely want to break the routine and become more free with it again

    2 and 3 and I have a reallll close relationship. 😅 I'm pretty sure those are the main reasons I'm so inconsistent: immediate discouragement leads to running out of steam/procrastinating leads to 6 and just generally having a half-done journal. I've gotten to the point where I'm not doing themes this year by complete chance...because I paralyzed myself trying to think of them. Oops. I'm basically using the rest of the year to figure out layouts that work for me (and digital backup tools that work, because missing a day turns into...a lot of missed days lol)

    @shelleyjames4446 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh I had the fear one. I am a very bad artist (have never drawn or decorated anything) and I tend to make stupid mistakes with even the simplest decoration. Anyway, I had a cheap bullet journal and I didn’t use it as the pages were too thin. So I’ve bought another and I’m adding about one spread every few days to get it set up as after doing one I think “better stop now in case I do something wrong”. It’s taking a while and there are some mistakes already but once I’m using it for real the mess will only grow so I need to not be so precious about it. It’s worse as last year I did a lovely journal that I’m really proud of and no new one can compete!

      @JashiiCorrin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've come to discover that the biggest obstacle I have to doing the journal effectively is all the calendars. They just add more deadlines and stress to the process and that just leads to what you said: you put off getting started until you never get started. I don't know what the answer is... But your "101 things" list is flexible enough and not so fixed in it's time orientation that it seems to be a place to start. Would love to know how else youd approach doing a journal without it just being so fixed to a calendar.

    • @JashiiCorrin
      @JashiiCorrin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mainly use my calendar only for things that I know are happening on specific days (or I ~want~ to happen on specific days). Everything else goes in a task list, typically touching my daily log first, and then if it wasn't done on that day it gets transferred to somewhere else (e.g. my 101 things list if it's a goal for this year, or my "future me problems" list if it's a not-so-goalish thing I'd like to do at some point)
