    4 year degree:
Pay a ton to go to school
    Learn very little practical skills
Graduate with a mountain of debt
Maybe find a decent job if you're lucky
Once in said job, be nothing but a cog in a machine with no idea how to start your own business
    Electrical apprenticeship:
Get paid to go to school
Learn one of the most practical skills in existence
    No debt upon graduation
Be basically guaranteed a great job upon graduation
With slightly more experience, have the skills and knowledge to start your own business and quite possibly become a millionaire very young
I have a 4 year degree, but if I could go back I'd go to the electrical apprentice school in a heartbeat

Statistically speaking those with degrees still make more in the long run compared to trades.

@419chris419 People with 4 year degrees, I'm told, make more on average than the general non degree holding population, but I've never seen anyone claim that people with degrees make more than tradesmen on average. And in fact I highly doubt that statement unless you can back it up.

What options are there for those who have been electrical helpers in the trade for years? Id like to get my license but not sure wether to apply for a formal apprenticeship or just take the classes with my own funding. Any recommendations?

That’s what I was gonna do but the trade school was offering a degree in electrical technologies but also a community college is offering the same major so I’m just gonna do that without the loan

Non union contractors will do the same education. The IBEW can be difficult to get into, but the non union companies will send you to trade school while you work as well, at least here in Texas

Why does this program take five years?

    • @helgachristoforatos3636
      @helgachristoforatos3636 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The program consists of approximately 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and around 1,000 hours of classroom instruction. Learning to become a well-rounded commercial/industrial electrician requires many hours of hands-on practice and this program gives you that opportunity.

Our program is part of a national organization called the Electrical Training Alliance and there are several hundred similar apprenticeship programs located in most major cities. Go to www.electricaltrainingalliance.org for details.
