When I see the number of views, I am astonished. Todd is sharing how to simply hit a golf ball with more speed and stability than any other instructor that I have ever seen. Yet only 12,000 views. How many golfers need this instruction? When I was young (I am an athletic 60) I had a single plane swing and hit my driver 300 yds on a line. It was the engineer in me (Cornell Engineer) that took me to a single plane swing because it just made sense. But I had always had trouble with my irons. When I got lessons, I got a lot of pressure to drop my hands straight down at address. I was told engineers are not good golfers because golf is a game of feel and you have it or you don’t. That’s when golf left me. Watching Steve Stricker and now Bryson I realized that I should try going back to my old single plane swing but I still could not figure out how to hit my irons. I wanted to learn more about Brysons swing and Todd came up on my TH-cam search. It has been the holy grail for me. Todd showed me a setup that works for all my clubs and now I am hitting the ball straighter and farther and my scores have started dropping. Even my chipping improved dramatically as I had the yips really bad. My kids who are on the high school golf team are now being schooled by dad on the golf course. I have to thank Todd for his devotion to uncovering Moe’s incredible swing technique and bringing my old single plane golf swing to a new level. After 40 years of struggle, I feel I have my game is back and much more. Thank you.
I have been enjoying the book for 3 months now and with the Master instructor doing a video on each chapter this really has speeded up my learning and added value to my purchase......Todd you are by far the best teacher on youtube!!
Great explanation of stabilization. Motion of the club head through impact reinforces Moe’s comments of staying down the line so well in the 1987 video at Oakdale Golf Club.
I never cease to be amazed by your willingness to share your knowledge. You are your mother's son. I can't thank you enough and it only confirms I made the right decision to attend your school I'm having so much more fun with my game now and it's funny to see my friends responses to my rapid improvement.
That arm swing without torso rotation is the main source of the golf swing itself. Wanna know how I found that out? Im 26 and have injured my lower back badly, I won't get into specifics, but I had to learn how to hit a golf ball with my arms bc my back is gone. Now I'm playing better golf and striking the ball like neither I, nor my friends have ever seen before aside from pros. I'm not a pro, I suck at putting and driving. But I strike irons like a boss. That callous on Moe's hand? I looked down and I have it in the exact same spot. I appreciate these vids Mr. Todd, I've had a version of Moe's technique by myself but now that I've found this, I can use your experience to fine tune it.
Gday mate greetings from Australia firstly Thankyou for good instruction.Ive been listening to Moes videos along side your six part series and a few others.I play off 6 and went to the practice tee yesterday and tried your single plane swing mate this works hit a few thin hooked a few but those adjustments will be made by more practice. Straight as a dim and long and accurate ball flight a lot higher than my conventional swing will give you more feed back
Gday Todd just played around with your technic and shot 76 Yee mate I’m going to register with you guys Still a few things to iron out with some guidance
I just finished part 5 for the 2nd time last night and was wondering if there will be further parts. Can't wait to get the book and use both together. 👍👍
Great stuff. Last practice session was working on that wall feeling and would have great shots and some bad. But your explanation of it being the shoulder blade and not the shoulder makes sense. Going to hit the range today and work on it some more. Thanks Todd.
Great video--- I will have to try the single plane.. I have spent thousands on Golf Tec and other instruction and have had zero improvement!!! I have coaches tell me that I am hopeless... That Golf just isn't in the cards for me--- Todd maybe the single plane in my salvation... Thank you....
Thanks Todd, our golf course opens again for one balls only next week, ideal for practicing my new single plane swing. I have been using a net in my garden, occationally I top the ball but I think this is caused by lifting my trail foot.
I'm using single plane technique and very pleased, but developed problem. At setup I have tilt to right and stabilize with legs during swing but now have a major problem with pulling to the left. Seems like I'm turning shoulders to left causing me to pull left. Having trouble correcting. Any hints or ideas on what I'm doing wrong and how to correct?? Thanks.
Thank you for an excellent video and your dedication to this type of swing sir. As someone who is starting looking at single plane swing (partly because of Dechambeau's recent success), can I ask you a question please? Why do you want to put on the break at the end of the swing and not let the club, and body, to move further and stop "naturally", posting up on a straighter lead leg, like most professional golfers we see do? Can we do everything you teach until past impact and let everything release, follow thru and finish in that manner to have a more "traditional" finish, and im my humble opinion, a more fluid motion/completion to the swing? What would be the negatives? Thank you.
Todd this has been great for my golf game, my full swing has changed dramatically and striking it pure. However half shots I have trouble with eg. short pitch shots, i either chunk or shank and only solution that works is open the club grip down and do full swing but it’s hard to get accurate yardage. Any advice or drills? Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Amazing explanation. I think i ve never made a comment in TH-cam before. But after watching this series of your videos, I have to do it. I ve played many sports all my life, and I m fairly good in many of them. And I know how to train. But I ve had consistency problems with my golf swing forever. Sometimes it feels amazing and sometimes it seems it is impossible to hit the ball right. In search for consistency I ve taken lessons with different instructors and watch many videos. And trained hard. But the results were never very good or when they seemed good they did not last in time. By instinct I always returned to do many of the things you describe in this series, but not knowing exactly what I was doing. And also seeing that it was not what my instructors were asking me to do. And now I realize that when I felt my swing was very good, easy and impossible to miss, it is when I was doing all or at least nearly all the steps you describe in the initial position and grip. The problem is that I did not know exactly what I was doing right and could not repeat every step every day. Furthermore whenever I talked to an instructor trying to consolidate the good sensations they always changed many things to the traditional swing and I had to start all over again, resulting in great frustration. I ve practiced just a few days following your description of initial position, and for the first time I understand what I m doing. it feels easy and natural. And what s more important consistent! And as now I know exactly what I am doing I can train it and repeat it each time. The initial sensation is very good, and the feeling of security is great. There s much work to do but I can already tell that after more training the results will be incredible, There s no doubt this is the way I want to do my swing. I’ll keep on working on these premises for sure and enjoy training golf at last! Hats of for the best explanation of what a natural and easy swing should be. Thank you very much Todd!!!
Yes. 1991. I won the sectional qualifier shot 72,67 and then didn’t make cut in final qualifier in Houston - don’t remember what I shot maybe 77,74 or something like that.
From the top camera position it looks like the face of your iron is open right until the last 1/16 of an inch when it squares up and stays square through impact and about 3 inches past impact. Am I seeing this correctly or is it squared up say 1/2 inch before impact and then beyond. Just to clear this up. Thanks
At the very moment of contact with the golf ball the face is open to the target. The ball squishes against the face and then when the ball separates from the face the face is square. There is a difference between the moment of impact and separation.
If you set up properly, you cannot but hit it straight! I noticed, though, that the wide stance makes me lose 10-15 yards of distance. Aside from hitting a longer club, what can I do to increase distance with this wonderful swing?
Seems like the bracing points relate to the tug of war analogy in the previous vid. Nothing is going back... Does the spine angle increase during the initial phase of the downswing?
Yes, It increases due to the pelvis moving forward in the initial transition. Thanks for the question. Also, please "like" the videos on the channel to help me share the instruction. Thank you.
@@ToddGravesGolf Thanks!! We are already improving our swings and I am personally getting 50% more straight shots in a few weeks practice thanks to the legend that is Moe and your life long dedication to the perfect swing.
Great video Todd! Thanks for what you do. Question...Instead of the "stand up and point" (step 11), I am getting more of a "recoil" of the arms and club after reaching what you call the finish position. My arms fold past torso, but then recoil while my feet are still flat on ground. Hope this description makes sense. Any quick thoughts? More lateral weight shift needed? Really excited about the swing...scores improving fast!
Out of lockdown and our course opens next Wednesday. I'm as nervous as a bridegroom but I will report back afterwards. Hopefully my 50 years of conventional will not be too much of an impediment to better ball-striking. p.s. I have been working on a new putting stroke that includes a technique to lock-out the hands. It works great on the putting carpet ;)
If this was true Rob, you have to explain why everyone gets it wrong without my instruction. Furthermore, Moe said "I was the only one who knew his swing". Explain that too.
On the downswing, I'm clenching my shoulders about 2 inches almost up to my ears. I compared my video with your videos and you don't do this at all. Without seeing my swing, is there a general cause for both shoulders rising up on the downswing thru impact?
Well. All golf swings are limited rotational arm swing with lower body stabilization. The science of the Single Plane swing is "How much" the body rotates and "How" the body stabilizes. The SPS has less rotation and stabilizes differently than the conventional swing because of the space provided from the Single Plane Address Position.
I achieved the finish position by stretching in the finished position for 5 minutes a day 6 days a week. If a Tour Pro can have a stretching program for 30min a day, you can stretch for 5 minutes.🐈
@Bill Hill you’re confusing simple with explanation. It would take 200 pages to describe water but you should still drink it. If you think its too complicated. then don't do it. I’m a teacher. I answer questions. I explain why. That’s what I do.
This is solid gold, Todd...the stabilization sequence is so clear and reinforces the importance of the Finish. Love it...well done!

Can you set up the same way to the ball as you do with the swing trainer also if you use the broom stick because it feels real natural
yes. Exactly.
