    It's one thing that I think most people take for granted, running water. Try going a few days without it, it's tough to lug water. Thanks for the video.

      I'm a small farmer and 52. I don't have water on a farm I rent and carry water every day to 40 hogs in five gallon buckets. I'll be so happy when I go to my next farm and dig a well that I can't even tell you. Running water world over is a miracle.

    I learned a lot about these when we had a leak in our water line under the yard. Fortunately my dad is a bit of an “essential craftsmen” himself and we were able to straighten everything out. Great videos!

    That look like a gate valve. You should replace it with a ball valve. I have had gate valves freeze in the closed position when I had to use them.

    Wow, I've never seen such a cool, useful and modern water valve here in Argentina. Maybe, just MAYBE we have some of these in the coastal areas, where water costs are charged to you by the cubic meter, but in the rest of the areas it's a fixed ammount of money for any ammount of water you consume, so there's no real way of telling just how much you (or rather, me haha) consume!

    The district installed digital meters in our district never had metered water before they just billed a flat rate per month. One thing that is nice to have is a yard hydrant that has city pressure to it, my parents have it I'm going to do it on my house project. Having water main pressure for your garden hose is nice when your washing your vehicles etc, you may have to put a check valve in for back flow protection.

    Last Wednesday we pour footing for a 3700 sqft house now we got 200 or so form boards to assemble for the foundation

  • @fuge74
    @fuge74 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you pull water from a hydrant, for temporary use, there is another type of water meter that attaches to it and there is a special "key" that will tighten the ring to the arm and turn the hydrant on. you can use a pipe wrench, but this will deface and deform the hydrant. you should also note that the hose size for a hydrant varies, but most common are 2.5,~4"-4.5",7" this will seem to mach up with your 3",5", and 8" discharge hoses but will not connect and has a different thread. the water meters usual come with a converter for a 2" pipe that you can build temporary systems off of, once we built a tree with 5: 3/4" hoses coming off of it by fusing poly pipe( the same kind as seen above) and a few converters for 3/4" pipe.
    as a side note, if you want you can build a temporary retention pond and pump the water you need on site from the pond or from an existing body of water. do check with 811 and make sure the water isn't owned by like the army corps of engineers, as this is a federal offense, possibly a felony to in anyway modify a body of water they own. to modify anything owned by the army corps of engineers, you will have to submit a plan of what you want to modify and hope they send you a permit, usually if all you are doing is redirecting the water on your property they are pretty chill.
    even if you pump potable water into a non-potable water container, DO NOT DRINK FROM IT, the non-potable water container often can have anything from toxins, petrol, poisons, deadly chemicals, and bacteria from its previous user or use. as an example on a job in Texas we had an issue getting water on site so we borrowed holding tanks used for storing ground water pumped out from oil well heads, the tanks were not cleaned, because it wasn't necessary for non-potable and so they had oil residue all in them.

    The city should always have to install a ball valve for homeowners. I’ve fixed so many homes with water damage that could’ve been prevented with an easy turn valve. There’s way too many people who don’t own a key or don’t even know about a meter around here. The way the city hear treats their customers is disgusting though. I can’t even get them to replace a meter valve that won’t shut off half the time. I’ve had numerous thoughts about going at it until the valve breaks & settling anything that ya know…. Hurt me… when the valve broke 😉😂

    @aserta 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If emergency strikes, always take a picture of the state in which their property was before you perform the act of repair, then, a picture after. It seems like a weird thing to do, when water is running some place, but unless you happen to have the nicest representatives of the office in your town, you'll get in trouble, and this, will save you of it. Applies to any utility and border.

    Great video. Looks like you are using a gate type valve. Just a suggestion but, my experience has been that ball valves are more reliable and you should use a ball valve in your application.

    Much rather have a ball valve than a gate valve. What are your thoughts?

    • @DanielinLaTuna
      @DanielinLaTuna 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pismolvr 805, both’ll work; the ball valve easier to operate - with a 90 degree throw, the gate valve will require a couple of turns to full on or full off. Be sure not to try to regulate with either. Also, cycle them periodically. And if you do use a gate valve, when opening be sure to turn the handle about 1/16th off of fully open. Never leave it against the stop.

    Ahh, E.C.! You had to go and tell OUR(plumbers) little secret. Now you've done it. Actually, the most common small leak turns out to be a ballcock valve in a toilet tank. Always check those first.

    Must be warm there. I have never seen a meter so shallow! Also, is that an ERT'ed meter? We have to have a separate antenna, but maybe that is just due to the depth.

  • @OveranalyzingEverything

    These water meters can be really expensive to install. We're gonna need one for our property and it can cost upwards to $20,000 in California. It might be cheaper to dig a water well instead.

    • @erichaskell

      Daniel Puterbaugh On third look that is a stop valve which is restrictive. Better to add a good quality, American made ball valve. If there is a drain built into the stop then a ball valve may be purchased with a waste or drain or purchase a separate capped drain. Restriction will show up in the irrigation system lacking volume. Hope this helps.

    Sounding wire? Wish you talked more about that...

    • @j-man72b72
      @j-man72b72 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The utility sends an electrical signal down the wire, and they use a sensor to detect the magnetic field around the wire, the sensor gives off a tone that gets louder as you get closer, they then mark it's location so you don't dig it up.
