      I understand this is a concept video, but let’s be real for a sec. The ice is frozen carbon dioxide which when thawed, will be evaporated back into the atmosphere as a gas. Mars will never be terra formed, due to the fact that its core it’s no longer active. To produce an active magnetic field. Which is why the planet is bombarded by radiation. If god wanted us to be a multi planetary species he would have given us two planets to inhabit. But thanks for the enthusiasm.

      Mars to Earth 2 is impossible as there is no way of making the atmosphere dense enough. Not even close.

      Rather than Mars 2, we are on the way to making the Earth to be "Venus 2".
      Of course, the Venusian Average Global Temp (AGT) of 864 Degrees Fahrenheit ("F") is over FOURTEEN times that of Earth's approximately 60 Degrees F.
      The Earth will NEVER get that hot, but it does not take a lot!
      But recently, we have seen how seemingly "tiny" increases in the Earth's AGT can have disastrous effects such as: the 2023 Heat Waves that hit Phoenix, AZ, France, Italy, Iran and China.
      Remember the Heat Wave that hit Phoenix in July 2023, when it was 110 Degrees F for about THIRTY days straight?
      As I type this, on April 12, 2024, at 12;03 AM EST, if my iPhone's Weather App is correct, I see the temp in Phoenix hit 92 Degrees F on April 11th, and at 9PM Phoenix Time, it is STILL 80 Degrees!
      On April 12th, it will hit 94 Degrees in Phoenix and 90 Degrees on Sat, April 13th.
      And THAT'S in APRIL!
      What will it be in JULY?
      Then there is the continued melting of the Greenland, Arctic and Antarctic Ice Caps and the Glaciers in the Himalayas.

      I guess that by the time we have something close to a stable civilization on Mars, earth will have become a lot less friendly than it is today, so actually preferring living on Mars won't be that unrealistic anymore ... save for the fact that mars colonies will be largely dependent on AI, but that's just the same as what will happen on earth, I guess ...

      I think humans as a society are not yet ready to colonize anything beyond earth. Just imagine all major nations grievances and pettiness moving on to space, with so many resources at their disposal wars and conflicts would be far worst. Only a globalized form of government that could unite all mankind would stand a chance.

      The time line has been increasing for years. Remember Mars One: By a Dutch nonprofit, this project planned to establish the first human colony on Mars by 2025. I don't see that happening at all.

    So interesting to see a story/prediction timeline that goes into the FAR future with Martian colonization, rather than just stopping at the standard, "we can breathe the atmosphere because of science" and that's it. Don't get me wrong, that alone could have been fascinating, but this channel managed to take it up several notches in terms of quality by exploring a future where humans live on Mars and consider it to be just as ancient and foundational as Earth is to one of us.

      That's OK, if you LIKE living underground.
      OR, we could "replicate a magnetic field" well BEFORE 2350.
      Say, by 2040?
      OR, we could colonize the Saturnian Moon Titan!
      Yes, Titan is much COLDER.
      And Titan is much further away from Earth -- about 800 million Miles vs about 50 million for Mars.
      But Titan has a very thick atmosphere, that offers protection against Ultraviolet Rays.

    I'm truly fascinated by the latest advancements in Mars colonization, particularly the progress in habitat design and life support systems. The utilization of in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) to create sustainable living conditions is ingenious, as it minimizes the amount of resources that need to be transported from Earth. I'm also intrigued by the ongoing research into terraforming techniques and how we might one day create a more Earth-like atmosphere on Mars. It's exciting to think about the potential for a self-sustaining colony on the Red Planet within our lifetime.

      If we can't influence a small amount of CO2 on our planet with all the resources at our disposal easily, can we create an atmosphere on a barren planet that probably lost its atmosphere because of a lack of a magnetosphere? Besides, there is no country on earth that is not in debt, so where will the finance come from? We will have to develop a viable gas separation process to separate out O2, Methane CO, and N2 that is energy efficient enough that basic solar can sustain until we can figure out how to transport a micro nuclear reactor and all the resources and personnel required to construct and maintain such a system. This is certainly an interesting theory. We do have the imagination but need more will and resources to make much a reality.

      YES, isn't it amazing that we have the projected ability to "terraform" Mars and make it MORE habitable for Humans.
      But isn't it equally AMAZING, that, by increasing CO2 by 2 or 3 Parts Per Million (PPM) each year, we are making Earth LESS habitable for Humans.
      Two or three PPM seems "tiny", but not when you compare it to the Historical Annual Rate of CO2 increase (0.005 PPM) in the 11,000 years since the end of the last Ice Age.
      Source: NASA GISS (Goddard Institute for Space Studies) paper, in 2013, by Dr Andrew Lacis, PhD, et al.
      And then there is this contradiction:
      (A) Many people are CONVINCED that we can "Terraform" Mars and change its
      climate (by increasing Oxygen, reducing CO2, etc), to make it more "friendly"
      for Humans.
      (B) And then there are those influential Humans (like my BFF, Sean Hannity on Fox
      News and Marc Morano of Climate Depot, et al) who REFUSE to "believe" that
      Humans can change the Earth's Climate.
      As I type this, there is about a 70% probability that Americans will RE-Elect
      Donald Trump less than seven months from now.
      Trump's view on Climate Change (and its subset, Global Warming) has not
      changed from what it was on October 15, 2018.
      On that date, Trump told 60 Minute's Leslie Stahl that:
      "Something is happening with the Climate, but it's not Man-Made
      and it will reverse itself in millions of years".
      As usual, Trump offered no evidence to support his opinions.

    A good effort. Do recall that due to the very low atmospheric pressure on Mars, the winds of a Martian sandstrom at best would feel like a light breeze ;) The tragedy described would more than likely be an industrial accident or caused by a inexperienced colonist.

      you will, but with another body. You are pure energy and your brain holds that energy, you can call it soul, spirit or whatever you want but they are just brain waves that when you die passes to another new born human. Other religions call it reincarnation. The only thing is that you will not remember anything of your past life, but there are cases of 4 or 5 year olds where they remember very clearly their past lifes with very specific details. Anyway it all fades away when they reach 6 or 7 years old. This means that you will basically live forever through other bodies.

    The winds in any sandstorm on mars carry extremely little energy. Even at its greatest thickness, the atmosphere is only 12 millibars. That means a 100mph wind on Mars exerts the same force as a 1mph wind on Earth. Unfortunately, that scene in The Martian where the astronaut gets blown down a hill simply cannot happen. Also note that; unless there is a lot of dust in the air, the sky on Mars is blue, just like it is on Earth.

      "Not leaving earth unless we find aliens". Thats crap. We are beginning now. Moon as a starting point, with significantly less gravitation to overcome. Once there are functioning production sites there, things are going fast. Terraforming Mars in 200 years is a reasonable time line. Colonizing the solar system will reach a point in 400 years, where we will head for the stars. Many propulsion systems are already possible in theory.

    I know it’s just a speculation but I think we’re going to have a mars related accident before 2065. I would hope we never do but as history shows, we are human and we do make mistakes often. Very interesting to speculate on the future, especially right now as we’re most definitely on an exponential curve of advancement so there’s really no telling what will happen even in 10 years.

      The Colonization of North America was not without "accidents", but eventually we succeeded.

    Before anyone lands there, there needs to be an artificial magnetosphere established at the L1 point. The preconditions for habitability have to be established first. You don't build a building on top of no foundations, you need the foundations first.

    Am pretty sure Martian habitation and development will happen like this or very similar to it so your video is very accurate .
    Only thing I would question are to do with the time scales which seem far off the mark - Based upon the rate of development of the technology needed to accomplish even a trip to Mars via spaceX and or NASA, projections suggest towards the end of this century or early next and habitations by late next century and the first primitive marsian cities or colonies by the mid to late 23rd century . Even the quantum robots you mention won’t probably exist till mid to late this century or even early next as quantum computing is still in its infancy .
    I remember all the predictions for Marian travel since I was a child and firstly it was supposed to be 2000 then 2020 then 2025 then 2030 now it’s 2035 - the dates just keep getting pushed forwards . We haven’t even gone back to the moon yet and that’s was supposed to be in 2020 now it’s 2025 and I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t get pushed to 2050 . Infact very little has developed in space technology since the 1970s but I do think it will happen but think we have a long way to go yet before we inhabit mars permanently and make it our home .

    It’s possible a war could break out between Red Mars (who want to preserve the original environment for exploration and the possibility of a second Genesis) and Green Mars (who want the environment to sustain a diverse and unique living biosphere, to call it a Second Earth) factions.

      1. any civilisation technologically capable of traveling interstellar space has no needs for invasions. They have millions upon millions of planets at their disposal and the technology to seed fully artificial terraforming on them.
      2. Any invasion with interstellar distances is nonsense. Logistics are a nightmare. The information about events would be years to decades old. Any relief/support force takes years to decades.
      3. To take control of this planet, any progressive alien computer system could just manipulate our system digitally without we ever knowing (thanks to loophole we create ourself, like the intel management engine).

    A dysfunctional magnetosphere and the resulting solar radiation is not the reason for reduced gravity on Mars. The diminutive gravity on Mars is the result of Mars being less than 50 % the size and less than 35 % the mass of Earth. Such a difference in the mass comparison is the result of a massive collision that Mars suffered roughly 3.2 billion years ago from a (VLC) very large comet, that sheared off a significant portion of the inner heavy metal core of Mars, reducing it's mass, lowering it's gravity field. The irregular non-circular orbit of Mars around the Sun is evidence of this hard hit. At the time of this collision Mars was not completely solidified. It was still a planet that was cooling. Think of it as a soft boiled egg being hit by a tossed rock and 60 % of the yolk gets ejected outward and inward of the solar system. IE: The heavy metal Asteroid Psyche and the inner planet (mostly heavy metal) Mercury. These "could be" the remains of the inner heavy metal core of Mars. This is why there is very little gravity on Mars, it's unusually low mass count. Ever wonder why one side of Mars is very smooth with the great cracked canyon of Valles Marineris and the other side of Mars has normal geography with mountains and valleys ? You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out. The evidence is obvious for us all to see, even though the collision happened 3.4 billion years ago. We just need to have an open mind to the provided evidence. And all the water that was on Mars ? Well, that was from the (VLC) very large comet. Unfortunately over time Mars could not hold onto all that abundant water because of it's reduced mass, gravity. That is all. Peace out. ✌Speak the Truth. 🤟

    ... with one correction: for the first group - it should be narrated as - the first crew is assembled from contractors. Since that is the actual nature of the first things that are significant, for the initial ground and air laying works to be done, up there. And the Earth-Mars-Moon constant transport, for any of it's trip leg, will run for just a week time, from either to another, so not a 'few weeks' trip, but it will be even faster than that, from either to-another of the three, as it will be very efficiently organized as a 3-point constant and regular transport system. And also correct: you want life and atmosphere on Mars, and elsewhere-suitable ? Just add water. (figure out the most efficient way to add water, and enough, as needed :).

    Isn't terraforming Mars far beyond the realm of sci-fi? The magnetosphere is far to weak and thin to prevent solar winds from stripping away atmosphere. Mars' core is not spinning fast enough to generate an atmosphere thick enough, and trying to restart the core would require more energy than the Sun generates.

    I disagree with the notion of melting the ice caps. At its highest atmospheric pressure, Mars can support liquid water only up to 10°C or 50°F. What would happen when you melt the ice cap is that it will flow to lower terrain and re-freeze. There's a better solution if you want usable water.
    At the west end of Valles Marineris is a feature called Noctis Labyrinthus, which is in the heart of the Tharsus region. The coordinates are 7°S, 93°W. There is a water ice glacier there which contains 36 billion tons or 8.7 trillion gallons of H2O, or just a bit larger than Lake Meade at the Hoover Dam near Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
    The canyon floor is 4.35 miles deep, which provides twice the atmospheric pressure: 12.4 millibars, compared to 6.1 millibars at the datum level. The 3.75mi/6km high canyon walls also provide very good protection from cosmic radiation. Noctis will enjoy a relatively mild climate, as it is only 7 degrees south of the equator (258 miles). This would be an ideal choice for our first human activity and habitation on Mars.

I moderate those broadcasts for Jordan, and yes, did a lot of research on my own to calculate the volume of water available there, plus the air pressure at the depths of the canyon there in the Noctis, as well as the distance from the equator, etc. Mars is my specialty. I've been studying Mars and its moons since 1970, six years before Viking 1 and 2 landed. All good wishes.

    Good science fiction. I like that story.
    Here's the real story: After a few weeks on Mars, never going outside, never feeling the sun on their skins, never smelling anything other than that lab smell and the contributions of the people with whom you share cramped quarters, never meeting new people, the "pioneers" on Mars want only one thing - to go back to earth. Mars becomes a giant science lab for short term stay. As it should be.

    Not mentioned or portrayed is the fact that Mars only get 43% as much sun per square meter compared with Earth. So it'll be pretty dim there until they put an artificial light source in orbit or a huge mirror to increase the sunlight reaching the surface.

      And quite cold also due to less sun. Therfor plants and wildlife could not be outdoors.

      Mirrors on the surface, perhaps on a nearby hillside or atop a cliff, would suffice. Also parabolic mirrors which feed the light down through fiber optics or light pipes, (look it up if you have questions). The only requirements would be that the total surface area of mirrors must be a little more than twice the surface area of plants, hopefully also for human living and working areas as well, cheaper and easier to implement than artificial lighting + electricity generation to power said lights.
