  • Remember the times when there were F1 cars that screamed and whined at high revs? This sound comes pretty close.

Technically speaking, from a physics perspective, they could get this same insane 18-19k rpm out of a 400cc these days. So imagine you made it that, but then tacked on two more cylinders for a straight-6, 600cc at 19k RPM. Instead of the usual 120-ish hp out of a 600 4-cyl, we could very well be looking at 150hp out of a 600 6-cyl spinning up to 19k. Not to mention literally double the epic sound insanity of the Honda CBX-1000. Seriously, go download a clip of a CBX1000 with a 6-1 exhaust, then put it in Audacity and pitch it up one octave. That's it. That's your CBX-600.

I had one of these as my first bike in 1997 (learner legal in New Zealand). Any time you stopped at or left traffic lights, you sound like a MotoGP rider. So agile as well - absolutely awesome machines.

How did you find it as a learner bike? I’m looking at one at the moment but sceptical on how touchy it might be including throttle, clutch etc how did you find reliability? Looking at one with 33xxx kms. Also a kiwi here.

@@nickwinter3211 They make great beginner bikes, low to the ground, light and not too much power. Just remember there's no ABS and you do have to deal with carbs which need an overhaul every couple of years whether you ride often or not. If you can afford to have a good mechanic to maintain the bike for you I'd say go for it.

Areto, pls check out Fortnine channel on YT on first bikes. Awesome channel with some of the the most thoughtful content. Personally, I’d leave these for a spare or second bike on the road. If I were to get my lic again I’d probably look at some of the larger cc’d bikes they allow. Comfort and weight on the road. A light 250cc with fairing, you will end up in a lane you didn’t want to on windy days. Westgate brindle I moved 3lanes and had little choice in it. Rides on this thing will take a toll on your bod and time on the bike. Ie. less fun on the regular. If it’s just for an occasional ride, I’d get one and juice it up a bit 👍

Honda is well known for making indestructible engines. As long as you regularly do oil changes with premium oil and check the valve clearances according to the manual, you shouldn't have to worry. I've seen these engines do over 100.000 km's without a problem!
I am 1,76 m tall and as a daily rider, I have no problems with this bike either. 100 km commutes are still very manageable despite the small size of this wonderful bike!

I got this one for €6000 in mechanically and cosmetically decent state with 22.000 km. In the UK, I saw them go for about £8000 in the same or even worse state, so I think I've bought quite the bargain.
