A standard shovel works REALLY good to remove the tack strips. Insert it at the nail under the strip and pry up and it’s super fast and pops the whole strip up in 1 piece. For padding that is stuck down onto the floor, a flat shovel works really good and fast.
I wish I could remove my track strips this way but I'm trying to preserve the hard wood underneath. I think who ever installed it used crazy glue on the strips and the nails. It should not be this difficult. I've done it 100s of times before!
I'd probably take everything out of my bedroom I'd probably take the disgusting carpet, padding and tack strips out I want hardwood floors as a ballerina
Use a shingle scraper , you can scrape off the pad and then pry the tack strip off , don’t waist time buying a 200 tool and get the job done faster . I’ve laid carpet my whole life just trying to help .
For the strip where you need to pry the shingle scraper works but this is a great tool for removing the deeply embedded carpet pad staples. Additionally, when removing carpet in manufactured homes there is no "strip" so this tool will be ideal for deep embedded heavy-duty staples from the floor boards.
