Caterpillars Have Decimated My Brassicas & Worst Club Root Ever On My Allotments

    I have never seen so many caterpillars in one bed Terry, Sorry about the club root. Once my beds are empty the nets are taken off and left off until i am going to plant into that bed again. Blackberries and Raspberries look succulent. The old guy behind me has Street light covers that he uses on his brassicas, Not sure of they are the same as yours but they are conical in shape.     Lovely soft fruit harvest. All my brassica have been annihilated what the slugs didn't get the caterpillars did. I'm gutted because I did extra to share with family. I'm having a good year for peppers so swings and roundabouts comes to mind. Thanks Terry and take care

    About a year ago I told you I hadn't found a toilet brush that fit my drill. I think I finally found one I may need to shave it down a bit to fit. Can't wait to try this trick I learned from you!

    Love this type of recyling, wonderful. Shame about the Brassicas and good on you for not killing, live and let live 10/10. The club root resistant Brassica varieties do work well, but more expensive per plant. Another great video Terry

    You have just reminded me,I forgot to cover back up my Brussels sprouts.
    Mot of my cauliflowers,and broccoli bolted ,I think the heat and rain mixed didn't help. Sorry yours were a banquet for them. Thank you re educating us about the clubroot. I didn't see it,heard but not seen. So sorry Terry.

    Oh no Terry 😮 but you have got some great finds 😂 the heat here hasn’t been kind to my brassicas either (covered or not) 🤬and pumpkins are just starting to kick off now.     The copper wire pot scrubbers would possibly stretch around those lamp covers and they seem to work around my small pots.

    My cabbages look like yours. Clearing off caterpillars is a daily job for me. Fabulous berry harvest there.

    Such gorgeous berry abundance Terry. Those caterpillars gave me the Willie's 😮. I've been hit hard with them this year also, but as I don't cover, I believe my many robin's in the bed eat the worms a bit.

    Fruit harvest looks delicious 😋, it's been a caterpillar , blk fly , and slug year for me , no white fly or green fly like last year we just have to put up with it👍

    Oh I do like a crumble......my secret ingredient in the crumble portion is a little fennel seed. Adds a nice zing.

    I had my cabbages, caulis and kohl rabi under mesh this year, kept the flea beetles off, plants performed amazingly, then somehow the 'whites' got in, ended up with stripy caterpillars and green ones too! No idea how they managed it, so collected them up and popped them onto some spares I'd thrown in around the plot, they've enjoyed demolishing those plants, birds have had a few to eat, but nature is preserved!

    Shhh don’t tell the cabbage whites I have spectacular sprouts hiding from them. I don’t mind a wee share but come on stop being such 🤬🤬 greedy caterpillars 🐛. Interesting how our ideas change Gerald used to hunt and clean his own deer, now he can’t even kill a mouse 🐁 and I’m ok with that mentality. So sorry about the club root 😢.

    In 40 years of growing brassicas have never had club root, listened to the older men that I worked with when doing my Apprenticeship in Horticulture and Gardening. Rotation, Rotation, Rotation. Do a four year rotation, been no dig for over 32 years.

    I emptied 8 half barrels today and there were loads of the light green caterpillars in them, so I understand when you say that they may still be in the compost.

    Hi Terry so when these white butterflies stop coming out after summer because they make a mess of my okra, cabbage, beans and squash they look so cruel on your plants omg do you spray with anything Terry you put so much into your garden that’s lovely I wish I could do all that ❤

    I have a poly brasica bed, with my onions, coriander, and.french marigold to try and disguise the scent. The sides are trampoline black very fine mesh and top is bird mesh. I also planted several cabbages and nasturtium in unnetted beds / pots as sacrificial plants, the 1st flush of nasturtiums and sac brassicas have been almost annialated but (touch wood) im only dealing with snail and slug damage in the bed

    Those caterpillars 😮🐛🐛🐛🐛I hope the sprouts survive, most important for Christmas😋. I am increasingly trying to grow in harmony with nature, nature has billions more years of experience than we do!

    Hi Terry. Always think outside the box with blinds and fire grates. Our boiler has been replaced, and I made sure I got the water tank for a potential carrot bed. Boysoboys, your caterpillar population. I bet you're going to keep a close eye on your brussels. Club root. Yep, I'm sure I'd rather make my own compost than possibly import any diseases.     I'm the same terry bloody catapilars have destroyed my large cabbages and they were netted all round and top ,so I've taken the top net off hoping the birds will come for a feast😅,😅

    Lots of people use council recycled green waste and I must admit it horrifies me as they can have no idea what it contains. even if heat treated i am not sure it would get rid of weedkiller and pesticide residues, although it should remove disease and spores etc. It is so tempting just to feast on fruits, peas etc growing on the allotment, with no washing facilities. So tasty straight from the plant. I must admit to being guilty too. Your raspberries are looking amazing. So delicious. Mine haven't fruited yet- I have not had time to water them. Happy gardening 🙂

    Had club root for the first time in a 3 year old raised bed. Took 4 cabbage out and found it in a red cabbage not the greyhound ones. Got about 5 left to pick 2 red 3 green.

    Your club root is because you use mustard terry. They are terrible for attracting club root. I mentioned this to you a while back and being in the cabbage family they are bad for brassica. Add nitro chalk or calcified seaweed, chicken manure pellets and lime to your planting hole as this really helps. Its got my sprouts rocketing away under the doubled over nets with no caterpillar in sight. Give it some thought bud. Al

    Oh Terry , how disheartening. Once the bloody caterpillars hatch, that's it, you have no chance.. I'm so sorry 😔
    For once( and I nearly gave up on them) my one sprout plant is doing good, do I start pulling the bottom leaves off? They are looking pretty healthy with no dead leaves at the bottom,,
