    That 51% Lego stat is super exciting, I feel like I remember when the Bricklink side of things first started, and the growth has been insane!

    Love these updates! The stream of consciousness at the end is incredibly relatable. 😂

    I love the videos where you talk about how excited you are about your growing business. We're new to Bricklink this year but are growing quickly and it is so exciting. I've learned a lot of super helpful tips from your channel and your success is definitely well-deserved.

    Q and A: What is the deal with all the Lego clone troopers? How many are, what are you missing, how are they priced, what is your 'white elephant'? Break it all down for us.

    Packing a Lego collection is a challenge. My recommendations are zip lock bags, bubble and saran wrap. I moved over 100 displayed sets about 5 years ago. Small sets went into zip lock bags. Bubble around larger sets into totes. I decided to break down my ucs falcon and put it in a box. Then saran wrap the part drawers. Parts may get a little jumbled, but they should all be there.

    You probably know this, so apologies if so, and I'm only 4 1/2 minutes into the video, but one way you can save postage big time is making sure you provide the 3 dimensions of the package into your shipping software [or the SSK]. Likewise, if you don't, and the item is bigger than a certain amount and being shipped via GA or PM, you can get stuck with a giant bill [this happened to me right after the switch from FC to GA and my Endicia account suddenly had a $68 charge due to me shipping a board game and not providing the dimensions of the box]. But for smaller items, even a box full of magazines, I watch the price go down by a large amount after I put in the dimensions [and the weight has stayed the same]. I believe you use the SSK at your PO, where for me I use Endicia for Mac and print my own shipping labels here with a rock solid LP2844 thermal printer [doesn't require ink - it comes with the paper basically].
    Anyway, making the length, depth, height and adding that to the ebay listing when charging for shipping and to your shipping software or the SSK, can result in discounts in many cases [and in some cases, higher fees, *but* if the PO realizes you have shipped something via GA/PM without dimensions and it is greater than their threshold, the financial penalty is worse than the original cost would have been; in my case last year a $13 shipment cost me another $68 due me not giving accurate measurements, but it would have only been about $30 total had I provided the correct dimensions to begin with]. As someone who has spent most of my online sales life selling media and not caring about dimensions [media mail it doesn't matter], this was a new thing for me and now I put in the dimensions of even a small box when shipping GA/PM, as the cost goes down when I do that!
    Also also. :) Unsure if SSK charges Retail or Commercial USPS rates, but if Retail, then I would suggest using Endicia or Stamps or eBay as Commercial rates for GA can be 50% cheaper...aaah, never mind, I just looked at the shipping label on your package and it is the CommPrice, so you're getting the discount already. :)
    Anyway, back to watching.... :)

    What is your profit goal? In the US, I'm sure you can't survive on $24-30K/year. You're not even taking into account income tax too.

    • @TravisMarsala
      @TravisMarsala  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great questions. I set aside money for income tax. Wife works too and I'm a stay-at-home dad 3 to 4 days a week (more if they get sick, which, if you have kids, know is frequently). I'm working to get into the 45-50k a year currently. It has grown a bit every year the past three years, but this year looks to be on track for the most growth.

      That's great! Good luck! In an attempt to let you know it IS possible, I was generating $5K/month in revenue from just Bricklink doing all used bulk lots but had someone helping me sort.
      It is possible but the time to do so just wasnt worth it for me. Optimizing time is by far the metric to focus on, IMO.
