Thanks!!!
Wait. I thought everyone in our generation already had the lyrics of that song burned into our brains.
This is why I love this channel and why it's hard to describe this channel. You just do you!
Oh no, he didn't like your comment...😢
This is a great shout, Mike. I've just started singing and playing rhythm with a covers band, and, while I don't usually have a problem with the music, the lyrics are definitely a different story. I'll definitely check out your linked video, so cheers!
I’ve been everywhere. Should be next on the list. Awesome videos, dude.
You made the rice
I made the gravy
HEY!
But it just may be a tuna fish you're looking for 🐟
LMAO....my cover band may slip this in this weekend
I just read those Billy Joel lyrics … wow! yeah, tough one to memorize!
REM’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It next?
Then: Desolation Row
Hey, singing that song from memory would make an awesome little party trick! Kind of the reason why I like to memorize certain lyrics.
I think you'd have a lot of fun trying to memorize "It's the End of the World As We Know It" next. The lyrics are as weird as they are fun to say ("birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean, boom" anyone?) 😂
D’oh, went too early with a comment. Can’t wait for REM. Thanks
That’s a crazy song to memorize off the top of you’re head!
Challenging my son with this! Great practice for many reasons! Thanks Mike🤙🏽🤘🏽🎸👈🏼
Born '68, lyrics of first 4 Maiden Albums, Metallica RTL- Black Album, Saxon first 4 Albums, Lots of Pink Floyd, too still in my memory. My technique back in the 80s? Lots of weed chilling with my buddies and listening to them on VINYL!
Oh man, I can’t wait to see you try End of the World As We Know It next time!
As a big fan of The Office, I couldn't help but hum along with "Ryan started the fire"
My 9th grade history teacher Mr. Hoffman used this song to teach us too! This was in 2000. He also connected everything he taught us to The Beatles somehow haha.
Great job. I used to try Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie with no luck, but maybe I should give it another go.
You're my favorite teacher you helped with the Spider technique. You get 5 stars
Impressive. And also, Killer shirt.
I feel like performances are more authentic when you don't have to stare at a piece of paper or screen. I always try to avoid doing this if I can, I'm sure there are people out there who agree.
My tip for everyone is just play a song over and over with playing and reading it, it will eventually ingrain it's self. That's what I and it seems to work lol
I can't hear the song anymore, all I hear is "We Didn't Start the Flame War". Which is always fun and safe to sing in public.
Hey Mike...I'm working on covering and rapping Rap God by Em.
I learned the fast part first.
Interesting video
Surely the next challenge is to add your own lyrics to cover the last 35 years?
Good brain exercise, man, and great song.
You could use my technique of listening to the song hundreds of times since I first heard it in 1989. 😂 Only takes 36 years... 😂
I always wanted to memorise this song.
Now you can do The Barenaked Ladies “One Week”….next week!
Hey I found this Metallica tab book at guitar center called "Metallica Riff by Riff". I just wanted to let you know about it, it seems like a majority of the tabs in the book are tabbed right and sound like the song.
I've been singing in bands since the late 80s, and people expect me to have a huge folder full of lyrics. I don't, once I learn the songs I don't need my cheat sheets so I don't keep them.
Think it was the Greeks that said " Memory is the mother of learning".
I don’t know if the transcript section got the lyric wrong or if you knew the line about”children of Thalidomide “ was about the toxic poisoning and genetic mutations caused by it?
What I have a problem with is when I go to the guitar or tried to sing with a band my mind goes blank even though I have a pretty good memory and use memory tricks myself. I was put on the spot a long time ago to sing Aerosmith’s version of Come Together and I froze up! I heard both versions a million times but played it off like the newer version(at the time ) was throwing me off! I have since come up with repeated rhythmic catch phrases that keep me on track. But that one experience still gets me !I heard the song a million times but I didn’t practice singing it a million times!(or even 10 times)
Poetry recital World 8-4
Pot pol?
Next video you have to do it drunk, so it’s in a real world scenario!
I memorize the lyrics as lead singer to the songs I do, but it's good to have a cheat sheet just-in-case. There's always that moment where the mind goes blank. That said, one song I could never memorize was "Far Behind" because most of the lines started with "Maybe". Very irritating. Plus, I didn't really like the song (I've grown to enjoy it more). I could say the same for "It's Been a While", but I never grew to like that one. It's boring and repetitive at too many levels.
Ryan started the fiiirrrreee…
Where's the trick there, late show highest?!
Was it Fallout Boy that released an updated cover only a few years ago? Someone did.
In was them indeed. It was terrible haha.
yeah i memorized this song when i was like 8 y/o
Please, learn Eminem's "Godzilla" and do a rock cover!
I still don't get why you find it difficult to learn lyrics... Especially when they're in your own language. I'm not a native english speaker, but I know the lyrics of hundreds of songs in english. There's absolutely nothing hard about this. Just sing along with the song and you will remember the lyrics...
Okay, then sing this song. haha
Did I miss the bit where you told us about the technique?🤔
Yes, I talk about it and link it in the description. ;)
@@TheArtofGuitar Sorry Mike, I did miss the "A while ago I put out a video..." part at the start because the vids play sans sound when you hover over the thumbnail. My bad, I thought this video was about the technique.🤪
Remember I think it was 92 or 1993 when the alternative rock station in the Twin Cities went country and they played the end of the world as we know it all weekend is what I remember
It was when 93X went off the air in 1994, then changed to 93 Edge.
How about “Subterranean Homesick Blues” 😮😮😮 I just did it live a few days ago, and even with reading the lyrics it would be hard.
Check it out!!! I definitely messed up here and there but I don’t think anyone in the audience knew the difference! 😂😂😂
That song killed Joel's career. There's always a guilty pleasure that broke the camel's back.
Foreigner - I Want to Know What Love Is
Supertramp - It's Raining Again
Styx - Mr Roboto
Billy Squire - Rock Me Tonite
A movie director can survive multiple flops but a musical act can evaporate in a three-minute-song.
The remake sucks for many reasons, but the most basic is that it is not in chronological order.
Billy Joel being the Boomer he is, focused the vast majority of the song to the '50s and '60s. He flies through the '70s and '80s in a moment.
Oh, nice, cheap Daredevil (Da Red Evil) costume too.
Weeellll, when the song was written the '80s weren't even history yet.
Yeah, yeah, but can you memorize "Tequila" by The Champs? 🤔
First!
first
Fist! lol
did you know fallout boy did a modern version of it from the 90s to 2010s?
You are my top guitar teacher. 2# is @BrandonDeon
