- In this video we make a start on the repair to the Copart #Salvagerebuildsuk auction bargain Renault Clio.
Working at our fully equipped workshop in Kent we carry out tasks including Panel beating, Body work, Mig Welding, Sheet metal Spot Welding, Fabrication, Chassis Repairs, Sand Blasting, Engine and Mechanical repairs, Reconditioning, Restoration and Structural repairs on the Celette Jig Dozer frame machine.

We do receive quite a few questions regarding tools and equipment that we use for various jobs. Unfortunately there is too many to list but some of the brands we use include Snap-on, Blue-point, Makita, Sealey, Clark, Esab and Sykes-Pickavant.

No haynes manual for pumas. I used to have a puma and got a fiesta haynes for the 1.7 engine. I got a suzuki jimny now, no haynes for that either..

Rob, I really like how diligent u are, I recently bought a damaged/repaired fiesta & the repair job was shockingly bad with cable ties holding the bumper on, but I’d happily buy one of your repaired cars, you’re a top bloke 👍
You're right about the mirror covers, they should be silver-grey to match the lower bar on the bumper...
Tailgates on Clios seem to be very, very soft. They almost always seem to have dents in them when you see them out and about...
More very nice work from you guys, the attention to detail makes all the difference to a rebuild, and is often missing in professional bodyshop work. She's going to look fantastic with the paint done and all polished up...

We've had one of these mk3 Clios in our family for nearly 12 years now from new, cracking little cars. I'm trying to do mine up a bit to get it in good running shape, this one in the video is in really good shape to be honest not much rust anywhere

The paint and headlight add more cost than you want, but that is life and not a killer. You made good progress and will have a good starter car for someone. It was too good to break for spares.

Typical insurance write off replace everything even if it doesn’t need it few years ago I bought back my 55 plate focus for £200 after the insurance guy said bonnet both headlights bonnet latch/mechanism front panel and front bumper needed replacing all ford parts as well so was super expensive the only thing I bought was a pattern part headlight and some bumper clips love watching your videos keep up the good work guys

Cheers for another really interesting video Rob. I used to own a Renault Clio and it was always a pain getting spares for it because Renault would use so many different suppliers for the parts.

Dent repair you can't reach....Insert deflated football, inner tube folded etc. then inflate as and when needed.
Does that only work with vehicles that have thin sheetmetal?

Can't go wrong with a white car, always look that bit more sporty imo, nice little clio that will do someone a good turn 👍
Them bumpers are abit tight fitting where the top lips over normally tbh, long nose pliers work perfect on those center caps also and donno if your aware those bolts arnt designed for the alloys, those bits were a bargin even if you got the wrong mirror cap from the preface lift lol you do often find these often have silver mirror caps rather than body colour, loving the vids!

Check the wheel nuts, they may be too short, if they have alloys on some come with shorter bolts that are actually needed to fit the spare on the rear axle if drum brakes are fitted, if the standards are used it will rip the shoes to bits when moved away.
Usually they are like a bronze colour without the conical washer
Sad part is that nice looking little car was probably written off due to a greedy garage inflating the repair costs.
You have just shown what honest work needed doing, just changing the bumper internals and the headlight made the car safe to drive again.

Oh Rob, if only they were all this easy. Sure you'd a few problems, wheel nuts, tailgate access, a headlight and trying to line up the bumper. lt's all been worth it though, what a great looking car. Add a new number plate, some paint. And it'll sell in a blink, what a nice earner! Shane. :-)

I’m always on the lookout for cheap runaround cars for work daily, son or daughter. This would suit my son to replace his aging 54 plate Clio which leaks like a sieve. Can’t wait to see what price this goes for?

Regarding that Boot repair, i heard it said that there's a 'Ghetto Repair' they do in the U.S.A. ... a deflated American Football then same reconnected onto an Air line re - pumped up and some of the creases pop out... but never seen it done ...Lol
I wish HONDA sold a vehicle like that HRV in Canada. Perfect size for just running around the city and 4 wheel drive for winter driving.. You guy's sure do get some real good deal's . The market here for used cars is way different

I know you like your cars to be spot on when resold, but given the fact is an 11 yr old supermini, would it not just be worth rattle can primer, paint, lacquer the front bumper to show what's possible for £30 at home? I know you get great rates with your painter but not all of us are do lucky. Fully get respraying the tailgate though.
As ever it's amazing how much better it looks when you panel wipe the car to remove all the insurance writing.
Really Great stuff though and shows just how much money gets wasted on writing off perfectly good cars because of a100% as new repair requirement - clearly mad on such a car as this.

Insurance wanted ten parts, you got it done with three and some elbow grease. Of course, for the Insurance to fix it, it must be in pre-accident condition when it's done.

Hi Rob and Chris, is there a reason why you dont get too involved with paint spraying, is it because your not good enough at it? or its not worth the time and effort, so give that work to others/ Patrick in Cyprus.
I have never understood insurance assessors listing parts that are not damaged.
Many years ago, my Xantia rolled down a hill (front discs cooled and the handbrake released slightly) and bumped directly head on with another parked car. I took pictures of both cars to send to the insurance company. They rang the Citroen dealer who serviced the car to check the handbrake was working properly - they said yes - so the insurance company blamed me for not setting the handbrake correctly. We all know that BX and Xantia handbrakes had this design fault. Anyway, I digress. The point I wanted to make was that there was no visible damage to any components on the front of each car, but the insurance assessor insisted the front bumper and plate on the other car were damaged and needed replacing. I argued with my insurance company, sending them the pictures I had taken, but to no avail. No wonder premiums are high if assessors are needlessly replacing parts that are perfectly fine........
