The one culprit of the fires nobody talks about is the invasive golden grass that covers the hills of California which were planted by early Spanish settlers for their livestock. Even if the forests were managed correctly you would still have issue with fires because the invasive grass is dry and highly flammable which makes it the primary source of fuel for the fires in places like the Pacific Palisades where there aren't dense forests. Native California grass aren't as flammable because their deep roots hold more moisture and native California tress also are resilient to fires that's why you see so many of them survive around homes that have burned down. The solution is to remove the invasive grass along with every invasive plant and tree species that aren't native to California, the work has to be divided between every California County and City. Updating building codes to require metal roofs on all structures as well as a water system that allows for water to fall all along the sides of the structures like a small water fall with the water collected in gutters at the bottom for reuse to provide constant flow of the water fall without the need for more water would be another layer of protection against the fires

This one looks pretty cut and dry I want to know about the Palisades one though I don't think there's many power lines around there. This is exactly what happened up in Paradise and crews even knew about it and hadn't fixed it yet
I saw pictures from a surveillance camera where the fire started in PP and it appears the fire started off of a hiking/biking trail but it wasn't clear if it was arson or an accident due to a homeless encampment because no persons were captured in the pictures.
Fireworks that were extinguished but then the area became inflamed by the winds. The surface was dry again but those roots were still hot. Just like a bucket of ashes left on a porch that reignites when air reaches it if not disposed of properly. Many homes burn from this kind of carelessness
Really? Palisades wasn’t from power lines. Eaton started 6 hours later under a transmission tower that was shut off. And multiple people have been arrested for arson or attempted arson since. My odds would say someone started the fire under the tower not the tower or lines which again were off when it happened.
The arroyo seco which is Eaton canyon River is always dry that's why it's called Arroyo Seco meaning drive riverbed and Pasadena and Altedena get all their water from San Gabriel canyon know by some as the Azusa canyon
The Arroyo Seco and the Eaton Wash are completely different water sheds. The Arroyo Seco flow into the Los Angeles River and the Eaton Wash flows into the Rio Hondo. Altadena gets it's water from Rubio Canyon not the San Gabriel River. Try again.
there were videos circulating showing many powerlines sparking. Same in Lahaina. What would happen if you put a power cable tower inside a giant microwave? I think it would spark.... don't you?
This reporter is very unprofessional and stupid. The way she interacted with those gentlemen was completely rude and disrespectful. These guys are up there doing their job.
I’ve hiked Millard Canyon (next door) in the 80s. Those big power lines run the length of the foothills. My first thoughts on hearing fire were those lines.
It’s so sad and I feel for everyone that loss their lives and home I live in an area where our power is out anytime we have winds and I see people running to the city hall to complain. I don’t like being without power but I understand why they do it.
If you zoom in between the 2:20-2:22 mark, you can see the image of a person bending over quickly to the right of the utility pole. It’s hard to see at first. But if you slow the video down, you can see that there's a person bending over. The person is also appears to be wearing a fitted stocking hat.
Correlation is not causation. Just because you see a flash of light at the bottom of a utility pole does not mean the utility pole started the fire. An arsonist could easily have put a small explosive or some accelerant at the bottom of a pole, lit it up , and then fled along the trail.
The burned out area probably is closer to what the natural vegetation looked like 150 years ago before the area was settled than the dense brush in the background. Forests in North America have a higher fuel load now than ever before.
BTW: I wish reporters would get there facts straight. Fire fighters do NOT take water directly from the reservoirs. There are holding tanks that hold up to 1 million gallons of water that the fire hydrants draw from. There was so much demand from these tanks in a short period of time, the pumps could not keep up with refilling them. There is more than enough water to fight these fires. With climate change the entire fire hydrant system needs to be updated.
At the residential level, yes power lines should be buried. The towers that may have caused this fire are carrying very high AC voltage somewhere between 100 KV and 500 KV. Imagine the amount of insulation required to prevent/minimize discharge to ground if buried. Every city in the world moves high voltage electricity above ground. It's really a physics problem and a cost problem not easily solved.
No insurance as of 4 months ago, no water , no reservoir , lack of fire fighters but hires ex criminal 6$ a day to contain fire, house fire start inside outside structure intact. Something sound funkin weird.
In Australia power lines start bush fires. The lines short out and catch fire. The Australian gum trees full of eucalyptus oil catch fire miles ahead of fires. Starting more fires.
What about the Palisades fire. TH-camr Heavy duty country posted a video about two guys running away from the scene where the fire started and they were right at the spot where the fire started. There was no powerlines, nothing but possible hikers could have started it. Also in the video they were seen running from the fire with a smile on there faces and the person that was recording said "that s### it going quick" and they were laughing while saying that
That it started AT a powerline doesn't mean it started BY a powerline. If it was started BY a powerline does not automatically mean anyone was at fault, if building codes and regulation have been met. Sometimes events overpower good (even the best) engineering. And "Excuse me, sirs are you at liberty to speak with me under these circumstances?" beats barking "What are you doing here?", for chances of a decent answer. Emotions are cool (and also hard to control), but anger should be parked at the car next time when addressing innocent employees of a company which behavior is currenty under the public microscope. That kind of questioning would be okay if addressing the people in power at that mentioned company though. BTW, that these employees are clearly looking like they are checking out what is the investigators are doing is understandable under these circumstances. By the way my personal opinion (if anyone cares), is that vital infrastucture should not be placed in the hands of private equity but should be placed under country wide and regional governments, privatizing power and gas companies during the 90th didn't do anything for the pricing and/or availability of both in my country (the Netherlands).
While I hesitate to add to the negative comments, I will say the reporter needs to work on her enunciation. The word "Eaton" has the letter "T" in it. I didn't hear her pronounce the word correctly even once. Ea-on sounds ridiculous and under-educated. Strong winds can blow down/break power lines. It's part of man vs. nature. If you live in a fire-prone area, forest and wilderness management are critical, as is making sure you have adequate water on hand to fight fires and an adequately staffed and geared fire department. The "leadership" in CA and LA failed its residents in a horrific way.
Possible cause of the "ee-uhn" fire? Is that like the Eaton fire? Then this girl reporter grills an SC employee like she's the FBI. So incredibly unprofessional at KCAL. --Take it from a former news director.
If one of the lines detached during the wind storm it could shower sparks that drifted to the ground. That's how the Paradise, Calif fire started (Camp Fire).

That's what "social media" is saying, with supposed video footage. She is just parroting social media and doing no investigation herself.
Her:
What are you doing here?
Guys:
What are YOU doing here??? 🤣🤣
Correlation is not causation. Just because you see a flash of light at the bottom of a utility pole does not mean the utility pole started the fire. An arsonist could easily have put a small explosive or some accelerant at the bottom of a pole, lit it up , and then fled along the trail.
So why are the reservoirs STILL dry? Why have they not released water into them yet?
This is outstanding muted! ❤
She needed the word Eaton in written form, because she didn’t realize the middle letter is a ‘t.’
What change? Temps have dropped over LA County the past 10 years and rainfall has increased.
Do you have more than just a couple of seconds of video.
Just like the Paradise Fire. Huge winds took down power lines and triggered the fire.
Hey California. Instead of wasting money this year why dont you spend some of it on putting the power lines underground.
Thousands of miles of transmission lines?
Isn’t now the time to put the power lines underground?
At the residential level, yes power lines should be buried. The towers that may have caused this fire are carrying very high AC voltage somewhere between 100 KV and 500 KV. Imagine the amount of insulation required to prevent/minimize discharge to ground if buried. Every city in the world moves high voltage electricity above ground. It's really a physics problem and a cost problem not easily solved.

This girl trying to get a date or what😅
🍑
Why ?
lol
I'd date her.
I did enjoy those jeans. OWWWW
What is SPS, or USPS or whatever he said?
Pretty fit though
That’s all she was hired for. As is apparent by her brainless reporting.
No insurance as of 4 months ago, no water , no reservoir , lack of fire fighters but hires ex criminal 6$ a day to contain fire, house fire start inside outside structure intact. Something sound funkin weird.
"Hey guys, what are ya doin up here?" How bodacious!
In Australia power lines start bush fires. The lines short out and catch fire. The Australian gum trees full of eucalyptus oil catch fire miles ahead of fires. Starting more fires.
I DO FEEL BAD FOR EVERYONE WHO LOST,AT LEASE YALL WILL GET SOMETHING
ONE-TIME ONLY PAYMENT OF 770
Lier! That's an INITIAL payment -just like NC! Stop spreading disinformation! REPORTED.
The Edison worker had binoculars trained on the Cal Fire inspectors, not on the wires.
She was rude and unprofessional.
Thought this would be the video of a PERSON. There’s one of a person in the hills starting a fire too.
Yah they are called homeless. They live in parks and light fires for warmth.
What about the Palisades fire. TH-camr Heavy duty country posted a video about two guys running away from the scene where the fire started and they were right at the spot where the fire started. There was no powerlines, nothing but possible hikers could have started it. Also in the video they were seen running from the fire with a smile on there faces and the person that was recording said "that s### it going quick" and they were laughing while saying that
So it isn't Gavin Newsom's fault. It's the fault of the Republican owned Corporation / Electric companies. Got it!
It's your fault for being a relentless user of electricity for your frivolous lifestyle, and sniveling every time the power goes out!
She was quite rude. Not even an introduction. Just straight accusatory questions like the poor guys are part of a cover up.
Is that a DIFFERENT DRY RESEVOIR???
It's meant to be dry - it is for catching run off waters from the mountain side during storms.
They didn’t show the moment of explosion , why
If I see this reporter I’m walking the other way.
They should look for signs of arson and with FBI.
I completely agree with the reporter 👏 Gavin newsom and Karen bass have destroyed los angeles
How exactly did that transmission line, which is clearly well above the flames, cause that fire? Maybe someone smarter than me can explain
If one of the lines detached during the wind storm it could shower sparks that drifted to the ground. That's how the Paradise, Calif fire started (Camp Fire).
