      Tim Kruse Its really Corporations buying nyc radio stations and telling them what to play killed nyc hiphop. Cant break new artist from your state if your playing a billboard top 10 every hour. Cant create a new york mainstream spund if all you play on the radio is the hotest nyc artist at the time and then atl music. However thanks to the internet, nyc hiphop has no excuse any more for following the south style. But they are. Maybe from copying rhe south nyc can develop something new from it to call our own

    • @thatkidroshay
      @thatkidroshay 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      BIG CHACHI although I would agree that 50 didnt kill it, I wouldn't necessarily say that fans always control what's popping and whats not. For example, many new age artists are big because people have come to accept what's big. You know how many people say music is trash, until it keeps getting played and then they start feeling it? (Including myself). Its one of those things that media like the radio stations have big power over

      La Flamin Boomin #FuckjcoLe you trippin. If you compare how many great hip hop albums there were 2000-2005 to 2010-2015 you’d see that 2010s is a better era for hip hop. Old school rappers like Scarface and too short even call this era the second golden era

    • @mexmurda976
      @mexmurda976 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      La Flamin Boomin #FuckjcoLe bruh how can you even argue that early mid 2000s wasn’t a bad era? Jay Z brought mafioso rap to an end, biggie was gone, Pac was gone, lollipop rappers were coming up, hip hop was losing its grittiness, most 90s rappers had lost their touch etc. late 2000’s was good that’s why 2010s are great. Hip hop got back on track this decade

    50 Cent changed the game to a more melodic sound it was balanced he had that gangsta shit and melodic shit. He raised the bar on how to make a rap hit in the early 2000's I remember when his debut came out he was the biggest rapper in the world his debut was unlike anything else before it. I'd say he was one of the people who pushed hip hop even more into the mainstream. Everybody knows "In Da Club" even your grandparents did if they ever heard it at least once.

Fif copied ja doing the candy shop that shit was garbage the only dude from ny the perfected the melodic sound was Max b. The south stole Max b wave an is winning with it an is shitting on ny when they should be thanking ny because Max b formula has everyone using I don't care who u are or where u from if you song is on the radio today Max b influence is in. Jada, Fat Joe(shout out to Terror Squad) Ja, Nas, Jay and any nigga that did a song or had any ties to Murder Inc. But at the same time its on the Dj too. If the only thing you play is Aftermath/Shady, then what do expect. Your Dj's were not supporting your own artists. And at the same time, the shift in culture and the real fact that NY lost it. All them upcoming artist that roca-fella dissed never made it either.
    Then they mention unity in the south.....Jeezy vs. Gucci, TI vs. Flip (and a bunch of others). Didn't Boosie literally (get charged with) kill the dude that he was beefing with? Jeezy vs. Ross (BMF issues). Point is, hip hop has always been competitive, 50 didn't do anything new, so you can't blame him for doing what everyone else did.

    Mid 2000s The Crunk/Snap movement took over mainstream around the same 50 was beefing with JA, Fat Joe, D Block, Cam ect... Diddy was focusing on making the band and going pop, then in between all of that Wayne BLEW UP, then Nas made Hip Hop is Dead...Joe wasn't doing shit either....Battle rap was in its infancy...from then on Hot 97 was barely breaking or playing anymore new NYC acts until Nicki Minaj came along who got a co-sign from ironically a southern rapper in lil wayne. It wasn't until the digital mixtape/myspace/youtube era started with Wiz Khalifa when artist who been trying to get on labels said fuck it I can do it myself and go independent.

The people wanted a break from all of that, they wanted music that was fun and carefree and that's when the south swept them off their feet. The slogan is real and it goes for everything, together we stand and divided we fall.

      There were a lot of artists that could have brought it back that were making noise and trying to bring it back 2007-2011, Tru Life, Uncle Murda, French, Max B, Stack bundles, Ra Diggs. Problem was all them dudes got locked or killed except for Uncle murda and French. French the only one that popped off and he sold out. In recent times like you said bobby was the one that should have brought it back. Tekashi kind of did but he's a fraud and is merely an image created by a collective of people.

    And one other thing. Outkast Speakerboxxx/The love Below was out in 03/04 too. That was the biggest album in the world and solidified Atlanta as the new mecca in Hip Hop. They are the only hip hop group to this day to win Album of the Year at the Grammys. That killed NY hip hop. All eyes were on the A from that point forward.

    Jay-Z and 50 Cent killed NYC RapJay-Z vs Nas/Mobb Deep was the first wave in the NYC beefing that ended the relevancy of the city. When Jay retired, 50 Cent vs everybody in NYC was the deathblow, which left the gate open for the South to takeover. Jay-Z started embracing the south rappers; T.I., Lil Wayne, Rick Ross. With Jay-Z running Def Jam, he shelved a lot of New York albums, which is why DMX, LL Cool J and even Budden dissed him

    • @TheBrob1983

      Well a lot of NY rappers on Def Jam got zero promo (Ghostface, Meth, LL Cool J, DMX, etc.) while Kingdom Come was getting all type of promo so that's one point. But I think the up and coming NY rappers could not surprass the cats who came before. Fab is cool, but he ain't Jay!!! Kiss keep it street and is lyrical, but Nas is next level!!! Busta and Fat Joe had hits thru the South run so NY wasn't not getting attention. The NY mixtape rapper of 2000 just didn't make DOPE records for the time. NY producers got neglected and NY DJs started playing all type of South rappers PERIOD!!!
