Totally agree with you guys! Learning or at least being aware of other musical instruments is so much important for the bands. This video should get viral 😊
I really needed this because I play with a big headed keyboard player that thinks he's the best time keeper and he be slowing shit down so bad then blames it on me. I use to think maybe it's me but played in other bands and practice. Everyone saying I have great groove but you ask him I'm trash 😆. This definitely gave me confidence to push through I possibly might quit now. Thank you guys !!
RHYTHM & MELODY CAN GO HAND IN HAND. When I record my Roland TD20 to a Backing Track I will have my parts worked out but I also tune all toms, snares & cymbals in such a way that on play back all grooves & fills played will be in pitch within that specific part of the Backing Track. Playing a simple Drum Fill involving just 1 tom can sometimes sound like a Bum Note when played together with a Bassist, 2 pitches being played that do not compliment one another, But when tuned to compliment melody, it can sound like the perfect sweet spot. Also, being this obsessive about your tuning & how you will sound with the Bands playing can really help a Drummer melodically, especially if you don't play another instrument. THE BAND IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE DRUMMER RIGHT, THERE ARE SOME GOOD MUSICIANS OUT THERE, THEY GOT THE FLAIR, THE LICKS ETC, BUT SPEND ZERO TIME LEARNING & INTERNALIZING TIME ITSELF.
There’s so much about this post that I agree with. And I love the idea about internalizing time! That struck a chord with me. And as much as we love chops and other flashy things… mastering time opens up so much more creativity to our playing. That’s for all musicians because we all instruments play in time.

Thanks for clarifying that all musicians Need to. Practice with a metronome. And all musicians need to. No. Subdivisions
You better believe we weren’t gonna leave out the other musicians lol.
