Thank you so much for this video. I was born in marquette in 1948 and lived there for many years. I have no family there now but to me it will always be the most beautiful place on earth. It was the place I was the happiest.

Winter is the best part of Marquette! The tourists go homes so traffic calms down, the trails and pine trees covered in snow feel like you stepped foot into Narnia
My Dad was stationed at Kincheloe AFB, close to Sault St. Marie from 1961 - 1963 when I was in the 8th and 9th grades. I went to Rudyard Jr./Sr. High School and just loved the UP of Michigan. We moved all of the way up there from Homestead AFB, below Miami....in the month of October of all times...! One year, Rudyard High played Marquette in basketball and we drove to Marquette for the game. As we drove the highway by Lake Superior, I was astonished and entranced to see the lake frozen into snowcapped waves. I was astounded looking at all of the wild, raw beauty. I grew up in Flint Michigan and my husband grew up in Saulte St. Marie, we both loved Michigan and he passed 2 years ago and now I’m in Texas with the kids. Just returned from a week in Flint was shocked to see it has died. Michigan has legalized pot and the whole place stinks of it. Unfortunately I will live my life out here in Texas. 😢
@@jeangill1187 I will live out my life here in hot as all get out Florida. Oh, well, I can at least remember how beautiful, and natural it was up where I lived. Great memories of out of doors enjoyment in the natural beauty of the UP.
K.I. Sawyer AFB is about 20 miles south of Marquette. It's no longer an AFB, but it's now the Marquette County Airport (as it was in the 1950's before The Airforce took it over). It's on top of the UP with waters running to Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
You mentioned the brutal Winters. Having been raised in the upper peninsula I can confirm this. One advantage to that is the automotive testing you spoke about. After working in that field in the upper peninsula for approximately 5 years I can say that the extreme weather allows the manufacturers the ability to do cold weather and durability testing relativity close to the factory. This saves time and resources over having to ship cars/trucks along with engineering and support personnel to places like Sweden. Which has been done in the past. Congratulations Marquette for getting this exciting opportunity to help develope tomorrow's transportation. Nice video too. Wish you could have shown the black rocks on Superior. Maybe another time. Keep up the good work.
I agree a good video Little Presque Isle is another good go to while you're in Marquette along with Sugarloaf haven't been up there in years ,, both of these sites are up the Big Bay road
Yes don't miss Marquette s winter been living in the banana belt don't miss that snow though esky had a couple bad storms and got dumped on here back in think in 2019 three times we dumped on every once in a while here in Delta county not looking forward to winter approaching summer almost over !!!
The local post office used to be the First National Bank, and still has a lot of the original interior decor. You step in and get transported back to 1920.
I am Michigan born and raised. The U.P. is sooooo beautiful! Marquette is amazing. Now our oldest Grand daughter this going to NMU, we are there even more. I feel blessed to live in Michigan. The winters are cold! But all of our seasons are beautiful! And our Summers are the best!
I live in Marquette! Graduated from Marquette Senior High School. Played hockey here. Most people aspire to be in cities live Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York.. But I cant see myself anywhere else except for the Upper Peninsula and Marquette!
My dad grew up in Marquette, we go there about 3 times a year. Marquette in the summer is incredible. You can go cliff jumping off black rocks, scale a few mountains, take a walk through an eternal amount of woods and trials. If you go to pictured rocks a quick 40 minutes out, you might mistake Lake Superior with the Caribbean!
i moved below the bridge about 10 years ago now from marquette...plan on moving back soon. Done traveling all over the place and Marquette's a great place.
What made being below the bridge so bad? No disrespect but I’m from Detroit, property in Harbor Beach and Woodland Park. Obviously Harbor Beach is closer but Woodland Park is 4 hours. Curious to know what I’m missing from the U.P.
I live in Gladstone, about 60 miles from Marquette. We moved up here in 1979 and didn't even go back downstate for trips after the first year or two. It's amazingly beautiful, clean, has the friendliest people and it's awesome to raise kids, ours are still in the U.P. with their kids. If you want big city action, noise, filth then you probably wouldn't like it but for everyone else it's wonderful. It would have been nice if the Presque Isle road had been open for you, and I know you can't cover everything but there is much more beauty there and all over the U.P. to be seen. There are smaller towns, scenic waterfalls and other spots, other things to see everywhere you go in the U.P., all clean. We're 3 blocks from Lake Michigan, also wonderful. We have some very good medical centers, the largest right in Marquette, but everyone's covered. High paying jobs are scarce, but there are plenty of jobs for average people who want to live a simpler/cleaner life. I grew up in Detroit in the 50's then we lived 50 miles north till we moved up here. As far as the winters--if you love outdoor winter sports you're in heaven and if you don't,, like me, you have a nice long relaxing inside season to recoup for the next spring/summer/fall activities. We have all the huge equipment and know how for winter road maintenance, and if you have a front wheel drive with good tires or an SUV, it's no problem normally. We do have snow storms that will tie things up for a day or two sometimes, but personally--I will take them over hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes (very rare here, 3 that I know of since 1979), earthquakes, mudslides, killing level heatwaves, and enormous forest fires. Also--no poisonous snakes, sharks, larger than hand size spiders and disgusting bugs. It's a good life up here!
Hello U.Pper. I am from Greece currently working as an engineer. Are the engineering jobs well paid in Marquette? Also are restaurants open after 8 in the night?
Which area would you recommend for *affordable* modest homestead for a young family? We would like enough acreage for homesteading (at least 10 acres, but more is always better). While we don’t mind being pretty isolated, being on the grid for electricity would be nice. Any thoughts?
Raising kids there defeats the purpose of keeping the place clean, quiet, and pure. So many other places that have a booming population why not raise kids there? Instead of ruining the UP. Tired of families moving out to quiet places and making noise, scaring animals.
Our crime rate is incredibly low, great PD integrated with community, people feel safe here, that goes a long way, especially now a days. Worth the drive.
I went to university in Marquette at NMU for 4 years , then moved downstate and lived downtown Detroit for a couple years - two very opposite experiences but both great Michigan living experiences
I had the great joy of living in the U.P. for 3 yrs, when I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer. Everything about the area is beautiful. If you're going to live there, you've got to love snow though. I didn't live in Marquette, but I did visit there often. It's a shame you didn't make it all the way to Presque Isle Park. I was really hoping to see it again.
The roads look smoother than I would expect for such harsh winters. And I was also surprised at all the roundabouts! Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed watching.:)
Wow! Everything looks so clean and well maintained. Surprised the roads are that well kept with all the snow. In S/E Michigan is it pothole madness LOL.
Snowpack and using grit makes a world of difference, they've got it nailed up there. I've driven UP roads in the winter time and would much rather deal with them than the roads at home in Metro-Detroit!
The Hospital in Marquette is a great place with helpful service for longer term visits and some of the best healthiest foods in any hospitals I've visited.
Thanks! Funny, but I feel like I could make an even better video of Marquette today as I've improved my skills over the years. I was a rook when I made this video! - Glad you liked it. The U.P. is among my favorite places in the world (during the summer)
I am a Northern Michigan Wildcat, lived in Marquette from 1979-1981 and absolutely loved it, summers are 'magical'! I was also a census enumerator in 1980 and got to see alot of Marquette County. I worked at the best 3 story bar there called 'Scarlet O'hara's', was the head night cook in the basement restaurant there called 'Jays Alley & Grog'. Some interesting places to visit if you ever go there are the Marquette Courthouse where they filmed court scenes from the movie 'Anatomy of a Murder' with James Stewart. I always enjoy the drive thru Presque Isle Park and Zoo and the black rock cliffs there, Sugarloaf Mountain is highly rewarding and scenic. Finally a walk along the Dead River starting @Tourist Park will reward you with beautiful waterfalls!
Hey! You missed showing the Lake Superior beaches, the upper and lower harbors with the two ore docks and marinas, the Marquette Lighthouse, and Presque Isle Park. The city is much more scenic than what you showed.
Just spent a half hour watching some guy drive around my city, I guess it's quite the novelty to watch something you've seen hundreds and hundreds of times on TH-cam 😂
My mom and I love Marquette! We were there in September and visited 2 days in a row (we stay near Munising). We randomly saw the Huron Mountain Bakery and stopped in…great coffee and THE best blueberry scone I’ve ever tasted! The maritime museum is always worth a visit, and we go by the water to the left of the lighthouse and visit what I named “The Rock”. If you can catch a freighter loading at the ore dock, that is very cool to see!
Driving in January back to school after winter break during a storm. We drove through Marquette during the dark. As we were driving along the Harbor, I glanced over and commented how big the ice mounds were.. my passenger said "those ice mounds are moving"
I grew up in the Upper Peninsula and graduated from Northern Michigan University. It was nice to go on a virtual tour of Marquette but so much has changed since I was there last. It IS beautiful but the winters are VERY HARSH. That's why I moved to California after I graduated.
I was at KI Sawyer in the early 70's. What I found about the winters: Snow removal was ALWAYS quick an efficient. Not so many roads so not so many delays in having easy drives to just about anywhere. Also, snow removal from my base housing was a snap. The individual who drove the plow just drove down the row of houses, in their front yards. Plenty of parking followed.
I have lived in Michigan all my life and never been to Marquette.Im about a 15 minute drive from the Ohio border . I will be visiting Marquette this yr for several days ,just to see more of Michigan and other great places for the first time .
My mother is a watercolor artist & her & her friends went & stayed with a friend that had a cabin in the woods right on the lake. They wood paint out back & it was beautiful. My mother watched your videos & liked them a lot but don’t take offense but she said she wish you would show more of the side pictures of homes & things. She felt like you were going to fast & the camera was just straight ahead & she couldn’t see much of the area. Anyway we both enjoyed them & this place is beautiful. The winters are a killer & you need a good friend or mate to spend time with or you’ll go nuts!
A wonderful trip down Memory Lane. Grew up down state, and went to NMU in the late 1970s. Loved & love MQT & the UP but had other aspirations afterwards. I have returned many times over the decades & it holds a special place in my heart. The cold/snow was great then but I no longer want that, hence we live in Phoenix, AZ. I am hoping in Summer of 2021 or 2022, we’ll hook up our RV and spend time again in this slice of heaven. Nice road tour of the city.
I've been thinking of moving to Marquette for the last year. I'm 30 years old and in need of some adventure in my life, I think I will give it a go this summer and stay a winter and see how I like it.
Ive lived in Marquette my entire life, and I’ve never traveled outside of Michigan. And its so weird seeing it like this because I’ve always known this as normal 😂
I just found this today! 7/11/24… I’m from this area.. Negaunee.. I haven’t been up there since 2018 but going to visit family next month! I sure do miss my home!
I go to Marquette for mountain biking in the summer. Beautiful. Too bad you didn't drive through Presque Isle Park. It is one of the prettiest city parks I've seen.
If you have not yet, check out Munising, MI. I love that place. Just searched your channel and saw you did, will watch after this.:) I hope you went to the coffee shop/book store with the dog painting on the side. That place is awesome
Such a scenic resort-y lakeside town! Hard to imagine how rough the winters are. Here I go with my architecture-nerd stuff again. The graceful yet modest older homes look so appealing. Front porches big enough for a family gathering.
They're not as brutal as you might think. The water acts like a thermal mass and its slows and moderates the seasons. Cool in the summer like the water, warm in the winter like the water. I live at the tip of the mitten near the straits right near the lake. We hardly get snow and we're zone 5b vs Gaylord of the Interior of the UP which are 3b/a and get dozen+ feet of snow.
My wife and I were there for a short visit a couple years ago in the summer. It seemed pretty busy when we were there. Compared of course to the rest of the U.P. Love to go to U.P for escape from rest of rat race. We are from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. We enjoyed our short stay there, hope to come back again someday. Great parks I remember. Love everything about the U.P
Yeah...but...Sheboygan ain't such a bad place either. I go THERE...from Milwaukee...when I want to "get away from it all!" But saying all of that, I served at the now defunct USAF Base (KI) in the 1970's. The Marquette area was like a wonderland for me and my wife. If it wasn't so hard to make a living there, I would have stayed.
i’m from san jose california and work at lowes today a lady called the store to cancel an order she made by mistake that got shipped to our store she was from marquette michigan that’s why i’m watching this video lovely city.
Marquette is a beautiful town! I like how it looks like so many people are biking or walking and how many cars have bikes and kayaks on them! I'd love to visit the UP sometime. Also, I knew it was isolated, but I definitely didn't realize just how far it was from the nearest town - that would drive me crazy! It sure makes me laugh at the people near me who complain there's nothing to do around here when we're only one hour from two major cities!
Had a house in Michigamme and this was my go to place for everything outside the home , i do miss Ms.Fredrica at the michigamme art museum ❤️ What a excellent region to live in or , summer home in.
Drove by Remies (right side) at 8:30 mark, that place is legendary, one of the oldest taverns in state, oldest in the city, wonderful little place to visit! Great video, thank you!
If you come here to live or vacation you either embrace winter and enjoy it or you don't...I love winter and make sure I get out there. It's February 5th and I just came home from camping at one of our 103 state parks. Loved it!
I love Marquette. That's where a lot of us Yoopers go for shopping in the UP if we don't instead go to Greenbay or Appleton WI. I lived in Negaunee, Ishpeming, Calumet, Hancock, Baraga, and Pelkie. I'll be zooming back to Calumet after living in the South for a year and a half. I miss home so much and so does my wife.
Marquette reminds me a lot of what traverse City was like when I grew up there in the 60s and 70s maybe slightly larger (TC) but it had that small town feel. Now traverse City is a sprawling mass of humanity that I don't even go to anymore it's probably been 30 years since I've been back up to traverse City.
Traverse City is bigger that what it looks like on paper. The towns population is only 16,000 or so but the townships that surround it make it feel like a town that’s the size of 40 or 50k.
Thanks for doing a video of Marquette. I just wish it wasn't so fast. You missed the good spots. Come back and show the lake sometime instead of saying its behind trees. There are a lot of parking spots with a lake view. Go around the Island which is a huge tourist spot with a lighthouse, Lakeview, and woods and rocks, and go on east ridge street which has elaborate mansions.
I kept waiting for you to drive out to the crown of the w queen, Presque Isle Park!!! You could have filmed the paddle boarders, black rocks diving, kayakers. Saw a lot of side streets. Washington Street downtown is very cool, but I kept waiting for you to follow the detours north on Presque Isle Avenue and go out to the "Almost an Island." You'd have gone past many vistas of the lake, and a really cool city park. Should have asked the locals where to go!
i remember when i was in california looking into Marquette EVERYONE told me no its boring and cold and gloomy so i didn't go lol they gave me bad advice cuz my goodness its gorgeous
It IS gorgeous in the summer but the winters are very harsh and lots of overcast days in the Upper Peninsula. If you love outdoor sports in the cold that's great but I live in CA now for a reason.
Thanks for this. Very well done. I went to Northern and got to see both Mariucci and Izzo play and had Izzo for a PE class. Has change ALOT since I was there last but still recognized some old landmarks.
Nice video, Lake Superior is beautiful. It’s the coldest, & deepest of the Great Lakes. I was up in northern Wisconsin one time, & went on a boat tour of the Apostle Islands. The water was kind of rough, & choppy. One of the islands was inhabited, Madeline Island. The water was so crystal clear, & blue. There were beautiful stones in the water, called agates. Anyways, I love the videos of these small towns!
Did I miss the mention that Marquette is home to one of the most modern and cutting edge hospitals in The United States? Within the last five years Duke University opened a 500 bed teaching hospital. There are a number of reasons why they chose Marquette. Michigan's Upper Peninsula has a population of slightly over 300,000. In other words Duke's hospital has one bed for every 600 person in the UP. And this is a teaching hospital. It is no secret that the hospital serves people from a very wide area. It is a great place to have a hospital. Teaching staff and students enjoy their time in Marquette; at least most of them do. And the people of Northern Michigan are great employees. They come to their jobs with a great work ethic. The same is true to those of northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Dakotas.
Marquette must stay right on the snow removal. You head west over in and around Bessemer and Wakefield the road and stop signs are 8 to 10 feet high. Love the scenery, never been down town and usually head down 28.
I used to hang out at The Landmark Hotel, downstairs and at the penthouse bar/ restaurants. Great place. The beaches and picnic rocks in Lake Superior at Marquette, are awesome . The lake is a great place to hang out and swim in amazingly clear and cold water. We would go to the movies and bars on main street. Sugar loaf mountain state park. Presque Isle.. feeding an albino deer...Art on the Rocks. An awesome place. Thanks to my ex wife and her family for hosting me there for about 7 years. Mainly in the summer. Visit there if you can.
@@brentgarbett3320 Yeah, I heard about that. They told me. that they take out a lot of geese, with rifles on Presque Isle each year too. There was a problem with rabid raccoons one year as well.
Recently met a person that finally moved from the "UP" because they couldn't take the minus150 degree winters, and I grew up in the lower peninsular and left because it was too cold. SkiDoos are fixtures in many lake communities with warm climates while UP residents often own a pair of Snowmobiles.
Pretty cool video, I live in Marquette and was raised here. He's a big fan of 7th St., by the looks of it! A few missed opportunities with the route but there's so many choices and you would have to spend all day to see it all.
My god, this is not isolated. Gas stations are plentiful. It is a beautiful place. Cold winters are healthy. Sawyer AFB closed, which is why many people left. "North of Marquette" is Lake Superior. I doubt that there would be space flights from this great lake.
I been to Marquette and I loved those waterfront restaurants and food was also delicious 😋 as compared to any other big city food quality! Marquette needs more visitors !
New Year’s Eve a while back, I was on top of that bank building @11:28 helping to drop the lighted ball to mark the new year. It was -10 with a big wind off the lake. The roof was solid ice with no guard rails. Could have died. Had a blast. I love MQT.
Moved to Marquette in 1964. At That time it was the fastest Growing small city in the US. As the mines closed and the Air base was shuttered things Really slowed down. Graduated From Northern Michigan University In 1975. Ended up in Gaylord As teaching jobs were tough To find in the Up. Still go up 3 or 4 times a year to fish And hunt. My heart never Left.
I live near traverse city Michigan. Much much smaller town though. My graduating class had 22 people in it. My town doesn’t have a stoplight, actually not even a blinking light. Me and my wife vacationed up there for the first time this summer. We’re already planning another trip back to the U.P for later this summer. We stayed in newberry. Ive been so busy with work that me and her have never taken a vacation like that in 26 years. Loved it up there, can’t wait to go back. Sorry yoopers, this troll is coming back lol
I was there in August 2021. I hadn't been back there, permanently, since 1974 (USAF at KI). A LOT of changes. Condo's along the lake front. Traffic like NYC. Still....a place of great memories for my wife and I. I was SHOCKED to see the same Italian restaurant, that we loved so much, WAS STILL THERE...45 years later. Found out it is run by the same family. The food is just as good now as it was then.

The old downtown has preserved its historic architecture quite nicely + good density for a small city.
The local post office used to be the First National Bank, and still has a lot of the original interior decor. You step in and get transported back to 1920.
It looks like a clean and pleasant little town.
I don’t live there but it’s perfect.
For ?
I can attest that there is nowhere within 500 miles of Pictured Rocks that is more beautiful than it! Niagara Falls is a close second.
@@ChrisHarden tahquamenon falls are up there too
I was just at black rocks. Was fun jumping the little cliffs. Mainly went to marquette for the mountain biking. Amazing.
Lived there 7 years, if I could have made a living I would never have come back below the bridge, it’s truly gods country, sure do miss it.
i moved below the bridge about 10 years ago now from marquette...plan on moving back soon.
@@TherealAlmightyAG It’s not overcrowded like Detroit, less violence, way cleaner, and most the population is older so there very friendly.
Grow pot
Are jobs scarce there? Im from the LP. I have been to the UP and love it.
The reason of safety is obvious !
This was a GREAT video!! It didn't cover any of the really cool places in Marquette that tourists love - so from the bottom of my heart, THANK-YOU
I'm a Detroit girl but never went to the U.P. Now I really want to go back and tour the U.P. Thank you!
That trip was only my second time to the U.P. Detroiter myself.
So much to see up here!!!!!
I went to university in Marquette at NMU for 4 years , then moved downstate and lived downtown Detroit for a couple years - two very opposite experiences but both great Michigan living experiences
@@Dixter5150, the UP is awesome 🤩
I had the great joy of living in the U.P. for 3 yrs, when I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer. Everything about the area is beautiful. If you're going to live there, you've got to love snow though. I didn't live in Marquette, but I did visit there often. It's a shame you didn't make it all the way to Presque Isle Park. I was really hoping to see it again.
The roads look smoother than I would expect for such harsh winters. And I was also surprised at all the roundabouts! Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed watching.:)
Roundabouts are new ,wrecks every day in winter thanks to meth heads
They use sand rather than salt for icy roads. It's more expensive but salt won't work if it is too cold so sand it is.
Lucky shots the roads actually are pretty messed up from the winters
We do indeed have a lot of roundabouts, and the only roads that get really messed up are the dirt roads
I was a Michigander for 47 years, and I never have been to Marquette. Thank you for this!
I love my little Marquette town 💖
Went to Marquette for the first time this year during the spring when there was still snow. Truly a beautiful city.
Winter is the best part of living in the u.p. of Michigan. Its when all the tourist leave a and it becomes peaceful and quiet again.
The Hospital in Marquette is a great place with helpful service for longer term visits and some of the best healthiest foods in any hospitals I've visited.
The colors are just so vivid. Absolutely gorgeous. I wish we had those colors in southern california lol.
I'm from Michigan, been through Marquette once, couldnt get over how very clean the town is. Also very pretty.
We visited Marquette this summer. Such a beautiful place. The UP is truly amazing!
That it is!
Absolutely amazing video of an absolutely amazing city that I visited a year and a half ago. Great great work! Keep doing this.
Thanks! Funny, but I feel like I could make an even better video of Marquette today as I've improved my skills over the years. I was a rook when I made this video! - Glad you liked it. The U.P. is among my favorite places in the world (during the summer)
Thank You for this making this excellent video to show my family exactly where Ive been living for 20 Years now.
Very Well Done Sir!
Thanks!
I think I was sitting on my porch when he drove by haha, love Marquette!
I appreciate the alumni that you mention on your travels.
Hey! You missed showing the Lake Superior beaches, the upper and lower harbors with the two ore docks and marinas, the Marquette Lighthouse, and Presque Isle Park. The city is much more scenic than what you showed.
Marquette is one of my most favorite places on earth!
Just spent a half hour watching some guy drive around my city, I guess it's quite the novelty to watch something you've seen hundreds and hundreds of times on TH-cam 😂
14 minutes in: Oh crap! I should be looking for my truck on the road!
It is beautiful village 👍🏻
literally my exact thoughts. I was like I know where that is... and that... and that... and that. lol
Even weirder as someone who hasnt been back in 3-ish years but grew up here
My mom and I love Marquette!
Wild blueberries grow all over the place, especially just a little south of Marquette in Sands Twp.
Driving in January back to school after winter break during a storm. We drove through Marquette during the dark.
As we were driving along the Harbor, I glanced over and commented how big the ice mounds were..
my passenger said "those ice mounds are moving"
Beautiful state we have surrounded by 20 percent of the fresh water on the planet.
Went down to nmu in 1970 and saw B J Thomas preform.
I'm, hooked on a feelin'!
I live in both places, Jim. Snowbird here.
That's why they call the U.P. "Someplace Special" because it really is! I can''t imagine living anywhere else.
Great video! I’ve never been here but I love the beautiful scenery and the nostalgia invoked by the presentation.
Thanks! It’s definitely a beautiful area!
Love this channel Chris❤️🤣
Brutal ❄️ winters are beautiful winters to us!
My husband and I consider ourselves selves lucky to have worked and raised our family in Marquette. Wouldn’t live anywhere else.
I love your videos, especially the 'amazing insights'.
Haha thank you. Glad that you enjoy!
If you have not yet, check out Munising, MI. I love that place.
Just searched your channel and saw you did, will watch after this.:)
I hope you went to the coffee shop/book store with the dog painting on the side.
No Presque Isle Park?
that's what I say, Thats the first place to go.
Or Third Street?
Not a single piece of garbage anywhere. Super clean town!
i’m from san jose california and work at lowes today a lady called the store to cancel an order she made by mistake that got shipped to our store she was from marquette michigan that’s why i’m watching this video lovely city.
Yup. Some people from your part of the country might not expect a place like this in the Midwest!
Had a house in Michigamme and this was my go to place for everything outside the home , i do miss Ms.Fredrica at the michigamme art museum ❤️
What a excellent region to live in or , summer home in.
Drove by Remies (right side) at 8:30 mark, that place is legendary, one of the oldest taverns in state, oldest in the city, wonderful little place to visit! Great video, thank you!
My favorite bar when I go home.
Visited Marquette so much in my college days and remies was a staple. Loved the times there.
I am from Michigan and I did not know that many people went to Northern, I know its and incredible school. Thanks.
Got indoor toilets now
Fun fact NMU was the first university to have a Starbucks on campus.
yep, the CEO was a grad at NMU once upon a time and it was his present to the university.
Thank you for the upload. Good video!
Thanks!
My daughter lives in gwinn. She's done a great job making sure that I am able to experience all that the UP has to offer
I’d love to check out the Apostle Islands one time, and I’m glad that you enjoy!
All the people that complain about this video... make a video! It’s a lot of work and if he missed something...you should capture it , edit and post.
Now go drive around in winter to scare away the tourists.
I absolutely love your videos! Would you ever consider doing a video of Kalamazoo?
One day
I used to go to NMU. Wish you had driven down 3rd and around Presque Isle. Great video, thank you!
got my like! thank you very much for the insight
Marquette must stay right on the snow removal. You head west over in and around Bessemer and Wakefield the road and stop signs are 8 to 10 feet high. Love the scenery, never been down town and usually head down 28.
Theres a camp about 15 mins north of marquette called baycliff health camp.
Bay Cliff is its own entity and no where near the Huron Mountain Club.
Grew up in Duluth, now live in Minneapolis, always wanted to go to Marquette and explore! Will do soon!
I was born in Duluth, and now live in Marquette. You really do need to get here!
They shot deer at the island
@@brentgarbett3320 Yeah, I heard about that. They told me. that they take out a lot of geese, with rifles on Presque Isle each year too. There was a problem with rabid raccoons one year as well.
Recently met a person that finally moved from the "UP" because they couldn't take the minus150 degree winters, and I grew up in the lower peninsular and left because it was too cold. SkiDoos are fixtures in many lake communities with warm climates while UP residents often own a pair of Snowmobiles.
Beautiful place for sure
I love my Michigan and will never leave here! ❤️ and I love love love snow ❄️✅🪴🦌🏡👴🐼✝️💒👀🪵
thanks for sharing some gorgeous views of our town :D
Pretty cool video, I live in Marquette and was raised here. He's a big fan of 7th St., by the looks of it! A few missed opportunities with the route but there's so many choices and you would have to spend all day to see it all.
Thanks, and yeah I’m bound to miss something in every town I go to but I try to hit most of the important things anyway!
My favorite part of Marquette is is pebble beach. I would spend hours and hours just looking for pretty rocks.
My god, this is not isolated. Gas stations are plentiful. It is a beautiful place. Cold winters are healthy. Sawyer AFB closed, which is why many people left. "North of Marquette" is Lake Superior. I doubt that there would be space flights from this great lake.
Lived up there (munising) for 5 years. Great for anything outdoors. Superior is by far the best swimming lake of the Great Lakes.
It's a bit chilly compared to Lake Michigan.
I been to Marquette and I loved those waterfront restaurants and food was also delicious 😋 as compared to any other big city food quality! Marquette needs more visitors !
Sure does! It’s a great little town
Can you give me some restaurant suggestions for a special dinner to celebrate our 25th .. thanks!
You did forget the founder and CEO of Starbucks graduated from NMU, he’s probably the most successful 🤣
He went to NMU he did not graduate
@@michaelbell2418 according to Wikipedia: He attended Northern Michigan University (NMU) from 1971 to 1975, graduating with a B.A. in communications.
Fun fact NMU was the first university to have a Starbucks on campus.
But he is anti-Christian ; bites the hand that fed him; typical.
New Year’s Eve a while back, I was on top of that bank building @11:28 helping to drop the lighted ball to mark the new year. It was -10 with a big wind off the lake. The roof was solid ice with no guard rails. Could have died. Had a blast. I love MQT.
How could you not go down to the boat dock and through Presque Isle? The rest was wonderful.
Really helpful video. Thanks!
Moved to Marquette in 1964. At
That time it was the fastest
Growing small city in the US.
As the mines closed and the
Air base was shuttered things
Really slowed down. Graduated
From Northern Michigan University
In 1975. Ended up in Gaylord
As teaching jobs were tough
To find in the Up. Still go up
3 or 4 times a year to fish
And hunt. My heart never
Left.
I live in Negaunee, Marquette County and I love it!
Ishpeming area
I love my little college town! Thanks! Go WildCats!
@Dat Boi With ALL the construction.....YES "like NYC"!
@Dat Boi Hey...I've lived in BOTH towns. And I STILL say: "like NYC"!
@Dat Boi Did I say LA or Chicago?
@Dat Boi Yes!
Spent a weeks vacation there last week loved the area
Getting here is a pain. I need direct flights from DFW!
