  • In January 1904, the Whittier Fire Department published a souvenir photo booklet, showing the homes, businesses and residents of Whittier California. This booklet contained over 180 photos of turn of the century Whittier. This souvenir booklet was published in the interest of the relief fund of the Whittier Fire Department. Join us now as we go back over 100 years to visit early Whittier.

For anybody that plans on driving around to see some of these houses, the ones listed as being on “College St.“ are actually on what is now Wardman Avenue. Back in the 1960s they changed College St. to Wardman Ave. Not sure why but I always thought maybe it was so people wouldn’t get it mixed up with College “AVE.” which runs from the south end of Whittier College to Whittier Boulevard & is a completely different street.

M.M. 37, would have been singing the song SGTG, as Lila, in a bar across a fictional movie street from a made up, Hotel Whittier.

No Whittier College? It was founded before 1903.

@@skytamerimages7634 my friends and I started
Lacrosse at Whittier. We were the ones that formed a club team that competed for the opportunity to join the NCAA. Due to our success Whittier lacrosse was excepted into the NCAA in 1981.
The person we recruited as a coach was working in the admin building. Never played lacrosse a day in his life.
His name is now in the NCAA lacrosse hall of fame. (Doug locker)
It’s an incredible story that nobody knows.
