My favorite parts were Tracy's smile throughout the music, and Luke's obvious admiration for the song and the original performer. You can almost hear him thinking "How did i get so lucky?"
I'm so glad you reacted to this. I love Luke's version a lot and it won song of the year for Tracy. It totally deserved it. I was so excited to hear this performance was going to happen. It's the only reason I watched the Grammys.
Great reactions to both this and the original! You may have done further research after your reaction but in case not, Luke Combs released a cover of "Fast Car" on his latest album. It was nominated for a Grammy for best country solo performance. Instead of having him perform it solo, they brought Tracy in for the duet and we're all blessed because of it! 😊
This performance is mindblowing!!! So happy to see her get recognition for a brilliant return!!! Love her!!!!! Missed her!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Saw this live on tv and got chills!! Repeated here again! When this country version crossed over, I couldn't get enough . He grew up loving this song and needs much respect for this magical intro for a generation who now can see her contribution!!!!!!! LOVE!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There was something so different about the grammys this year which was kind of encapsulated by this performance. It kind of took a low key club vibe which worked really well.
Iconic song from an icon to many of us who grew up with this song. Her smile during the intro❤. The crowd was so into it. I’m not a country fan and loved this performance.
Luke asked Tracy’s permission to cover this song because he loved it growing up as a kid. She said yes, and it was a huge hit on the country charts. Tracy made over $500,000 in royalties from his version
Luke said he loved this song the first time he heard it in the car when he was 8 (I think) and it’s so wonderful to see Tracy again after all these years.
Tracy never ages, her voice never ages and this song will never get old. Great duet with Luke, I always love to hear another performers perspective on a classic song.
I love this song. I was in my kitchen making supper, watching the Grammys and this came on and I literally spit out my drink when this started! Incredible performance. One of the best in a very long time.
I’ve watched this video about a 100 times and it still brings me to tears every time. (Actually it’s kind of embarrassing). Such a beautiful gift to see her perform and to watch Luke’s admiration for her.
Speechless. Started my day with your 1st reaction to Tracy, was surprised to see this come up, stopped to listen and now I’m agog. You hit it, the timbre of her voice is rich with depth. If polished mahogany wood could sing, she is what it would sound like.
I agree about the respect Like Combs gave this iconic song and to Tracy Chapman who created such an amazing story in this song. Luke didn’t try and make it his song he just added a beautiful addition to the song with his lovely voice. I’m not a country music listener but I loved the fiddle and the steal guitar added such an amazing depth to this already beautiful song. It was a flawless duo. My hat off to the both, Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs. Stunning performance. I have watched this video over and over. The BEST duo performance I have ever seen watching the Grammys…. WOW!!! Loved your reaction as we watched and listened to this one of a kind song and performance. Thanks for sharing!!
You reaction to this performance was so timely as you mentioned. I remember when her song came out- and, it was a pleasant surprise to see her perform it at this year’s Grammy awards. Cheers to you- I always look forward to seeing what you are reacting to, and to your thoughts and feelings regarding them.
There were some who weren’t pleased that Luke had covered this. Making the connection for her to do it with him at the Grammy’s put those comments to rest. It was a perfect collaboration ! Not sure Tracy ever got the deserved recognition when it first came out.
OH SHE DID. ADMIRED BY OTHER MUSICIANS AND HER MANY MANY FANS ALIKE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY PERFORMER THAT CONNECT''S TO THEIR AUDIENCE QUITE LIKE TRACY' WATCH HER EYES. IT IS ALL IN HER EYES. REDISCOVERED HER AGAIN AFTER HER 2024 GRAMMY PERFORMANCE W LUKE COMBS. I THOUGHT THIS DUET WORKED PERFECTLY ON EVERY LEVEL. I VERY MUCH LIKED COMBS VOCALS. NEVER SAW HIM BEFORE THIS. THAT WAS SPECIAL.
You haven’t paid attention - she won a Grammy for best female pop performance for this song. It was written in 1988, and still has relevance today! You should also check out Give me one reason.
The second i saw her and heard her voice on that stage again after all these years and sounding the exact same i totally lost it. Cried like a baby i just love her so much i honestly dont like his version though
THAT IS SO EXCELLENT...YOU SEE, SOMETIMES WE DO WHAT WE KNOW TO BE RIGHT THING. LUKE COMBS PASSING UP THE GLORY FOR HIMSELF AND REALLY HONORING TRACY. HE REALLY ADMIRES HER. THEY BOTH LOOKED SO HAPPY PERFORMING TOGETHER. WHEN I NEED A SMILE ON MY FACE I JUST RETURN TO THIS VIDEO.
So many good things about this and it comes together into something so nostalgically fresh and great that brings tears. We know when it’s special even if we can’t explain it.
When I see this, I can hear Luke Combs thinking “what if I did a cover of fast cars and got to perform at the Grammies with Tracey Chapman - wouldn’t that be awesome?” And then it happened…
You need to do some Luke Combs! When It Rains It Pours (funny), Lovin On You (my fav), Beer Never Broke My Heart, Love you Anyway, She Got The Best Of Me and Beautiful Crazy. Definitely need to do the videos. He is great.
Btw, Nick, I don’t know if it’s my iPad or your video, but the last few songs of yours the video just blanks out! If anyone else is having this problem, please comment
Luke pushes the country trope voice a bit over the top and he seemed to have issues controlling his tone, but maybe he was just nervous being on stage with the legend. Regardless, it was a lovely and very sweet duet.
Luke can definitely sing, but you can tell it’s not his song. He’s great, but he’s not quite connecting with it on an emotional level, which you get every single time from Tracy, who wrote it. Maybe it’s because he’s so in awe of her, which, who wouldn’t be? She’s fantastic. With him I get a very good performance. With her, I felt something. If this inspires him to write his own anthem, that could be really good.
The audience was not aware she would be there. You can tell when they realized she was onstage by the cheering. Such an emotional experience.
My favorite parts were Tracy's smile throughout the music, and Luke's obvious admiration for the song and the original performer. You can almost hear him thinking "How did i get so lucky?"
You can see the admiration so clearly!
Seeing someone’s childhood dream come true
This is real music. She wrote a song that wears well over time. And they sound great together.
I'm so glad you reacted to this. I love Luke's version a lot and it won song of the year for Tracy. It totally deserved it. I was so excited to hear this performance was going to happen. It's the only reason I watched the Grammys.

Thank you so much, I was so impressed!

Thanks for doing this one. Just seeing her radiant smile, Luke being in awe of Tracy and the crowd's reception when they begin had main tears.
Couldn't agree more!
Best musical moment of recent years.
Luke said he loved this song the first time he heard it in the car when he was 8 (I think) and it’s so wonderful to see Tracy again after all these years.
I remember the first time I saw her sing was the Nelson Mandela concert in the late 80's. Instant hit...it was phenomenal.
I love that Luke Combs covered this song and didn't change it ❤ I think that he just wanted to introduce a new generation of people to a masterpiece ❤
The reaction was from her peers well deserved
60 years plus 34 years respectively. Wow, will this song ever age❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tracy never ages, her voice never ages and this song will never get old.
Great duet with Luke, I always love to hear another performers perspective on a classic song.
Fantastically pure reaction. Emotional lyrics, stellar vocals, Luke being a fanboy! All combined to make 🎩 MAGIC.
I love this song.
I was in my kitchen making supper, watching the Grammys and this came on and I literally spit out my drink when this started!
Incredible performance. One of the best in a very long time.
she looks happier than ever not everyone had heard of her and at the end her partner ends up like her dad and she leaves alone.
And can we add that at 60, Tracy Chapman looks STUNNING!
Just an awesome collaboration!

Their voices sound so good together
I started bawling just seeing her hand on the guitar. Sobbed through the entire song.

Aw thank you Judith. Means alot!

Combs kept her lyrics intact on his recording of it so she received all the revenue from it.

Both reactions were great! ❤
Truly believe this is ome of the best songs ever written lyrically
This was pure magic!

Nice surprise... thanks Nick!
You bet!
I love how the video went blank and we had to watch this guy on the verge of tears.
Thanks for doing this one.. amazing.. right?!
Enthralling!

Copyright filter. The record companies are getting quite brutal.
💛💛💛
Your face said it all!!!!
Larry Campbell on fiddle.
