I can't believe it, this is the song I've been trying to find since I was 10 years old. There was this one summer in the 90's they played it on the radio a couple times and I loved it, but the DJ never said the name, and then they never played it again. I remember going to the music shop and flipping through as many CDs as I could trying to see if any of the titles sounded remotely familiar. And back then you could scan the bar codes on the CDs and play previews of the songs on headphones in the shop, and I'd do that over and over. I never found it. By the time the internet became searchable enough that I could probably find it, I couldn't remember enough of it to properly search it. Somebody mentioned it by title just now and I thought, "Wait is, that...?" and looked it up immediately. I'm just really excited right now, this is such a strange feeling.

I also went about 3 years trying to find out what this song was. No clue until I bought a cassette one day with various songs. I was playing it and this came on. I think I broke a glass. Just flat dropped it. But now I listen to it a lot. Just glad I found it. Well worth the wait!!

Alford. "Ela disse, `Não, nós sabemos para onde ir. Nós vamos todo ano.' "

The factual incident is both tragic and inspiring. I first and last heard The Way in ‘98 while living in Willamette valley; now I’m in central Texas, woke up this morning obsessed with hearing this song again & able to find it - only remembering “Fastball”. What happened to Raymond & Lela and “The Way” has triggered many of us to reflect on our aging bodies & youthful wistfulness. Great guitar and bass riffs BTW.

He would make a stop at the bakery, I he would buy several just baked baguettes to take home, he would let me eat the still hot inside soft part of it, just because he loved to spoil me. I don't know about underrated. It is a really fun song, and it was top of the charts in early '98 or so, and had real staying power on the radio.

I remember being about 12 years old and this was one of the songs he'd play when he had a girl over at our parents house. One time I asked him to play it for me on his absolutely incredible 52 disc changer radio/boombox/stereo with the most mind numbing bass that anyone could imagine. In a rare bonding moment between a 12 year old and a 17 year old older brother, we bonded over the coolest song I've ever heard in my life. I still get goose bumps and nearly cry thinking about that moment and this song. I will remember this song and the bond it made for the rest of my life. When I first found that out like a year ago the song became so sad and disturbing but now listening and watching the video i find it so cool. Mainly because the family said how surprised and appreciative they were of it. Like I can’t watch this and not try to imagine how cool it must be and also comforting to see your loved ones spirits forever living through a chart topping rock song. And the feel of the song itself is just perfect. It talks about something tragic and disturbing but has the feel of a happy, uplifting song. Yeah it’s sad that they went out so tragically, but it’s not like their time wasn’t coming very soon considering their health issues and age, and honestly they lived a complete and fulfilling life and I like to think that it probably happened too quick for them to ever even suffer at all. Plus they were with each other. And I feel like the song iterates that perfectly. So yeah I just think it’s awesome because no doubt the family got a kick out of it and it will be told throughout their family for generations to come for sure. Sorry for the rant. Haven’t slept in over 24 hours so I’m a little out there at the moment 😅

I had completely forgotten that this song existed for the last 25 years. It now hasn't left my head for a single day for the last month. I have vague memories of hearing it as a kid and liking it, but never knowing what is was. Now here I am, in my mid-30s and listening to it on repeat with a big smile on my face. Ditto with 'Out of My Head'. Cheers, Fastball, wherever you are!

@@cespil-io7mj I’m not saying this either, but people say they found a “recipe” that made a song popular. Following that recipe put any song they wanted into top tens and radio playlists but it also made their songs sound similar. Other bands started trying to follow this trend and it shifted the direction of music industry out of “90s” and into the 2000’s.
That’s my understanding of it anyway.

This is a great song to listen to while driving but it literally is a song about tragic and terrible driving. The real story behind this song is about an elderly couple that are driving to their favorite yearly music festival, they lose their way. They are found hundreds of miles away crashed in a canyon and died. The lyrics "anyone can see the road that they walk on in paved in gold, its always summer they will never get cold, they'll never get hungry, they'll never get old and grey" describes them passed away and in heaven. The next part is the children looking for them.

DrEvil Yes and no. They were from Salado, Texas and were on their way to a Pioneer Festival in Temple, Texas. The wife had Alzheimer’s the husband was recovering from brain surgery. The wife had an episode while driving and drove off for hundreds of miles in the wrong direction. They were found two weeks later at the bottom of a ravine in Hot Springs, Arkansas. This song is a romanticized take on what happened to give the couple a happier ending. Instead of having an Alzheimer’s episode and driving to their death, they decided to get in the car and just drive. They left to go have fun like they did when they first met. Wherever they end up, they end up. RIP Lela and Raymond Howard
