St Andrews is the patron saint of Scotland and is the namesake for Scotland's national day. Hence it would go fast on St. Andrews day as Scotch and Burns are both Scottish national treasures.
I make my Bobby Burns every Burns Night only slightly differently. I use the 2 oz Scotch, 3/4 oz sweet vermouth, and 1/2 oz Benedictine recipe and also utilize a lemon twist. But most importantly, I rinse the cocktail glass with absinthe before straining the drink. An atomizer filled with absinthe works best for this. It adds a whole other dimension to the drink and makes it more than just a Sweet Rob Roy with Benedictine. Try it sometime. Cheers!
I bet that’s a tasty drink! Somewhere between the Bobby Burns and La Louisiane. I also rely on the atomizer for absinthe rinses. Much less waste. Thanks for the comment!
Oh wow Anders! This is nice, how have we not tried it sooner. Your proportions are perfect, agree that more vermouth would wash out the whiskey. We went with Aberfeldy 12, Cocchi & DOM, turned out perfectly. Thanks for yet another favorite! 🎉. Cheers!
After engaging last night (Burns Night 2022) in the necessary research, i.e., taste testing), once again your version of a cocktail turned out to be the one we prefer. Second place was the version seen quite often elsewhere, which calls for 3/4 Sweet Vermouth instead of your version's 1, but we preferred your version. Slàinte Mhath!
Good shot! Tried this one with Benedictine and it was awesome! Got the point for Drambuie, but stuck on the feeling like this is one big Drambuie shot) Thank you so much for a video! Cheers!
So not drinking this on burns night (I will though) It's November and going Savoy old school. Zamo!!! I'm a whisky drinker and this one hits the spot. My mothers favourite drink is Benedictine (she also loves whisky) so taking this one to hers for Christmas. The Vermouth smooth's out the whiskey and you get the Benedictine coming through at the end, love it.
Our Friday-after-Thanksgiving tradition (for those not traveling) is Scotchgiving, where we gather for leftovers and everyone brings some Scotch. I'm going to make this and Scottish Seasides this year. I like your proportions better than the 'by the book', it keeps the Scotch more in front.

Hi Anders, I am a big fan of your channel. I would like to ask for your suggestion on a replacement for Bénédictine liqueur in cocktails, as I haven’t been able to find it where I live. I really appreciate your knowledge and experience, and I’m sure your advice would be very valuable to me. Thank you for all the amazing content you share! Best regards Fidel
The closest would probably be B&B. It's a blend of Bénédictine and Brandy, so it'll be a bit drier. Other liqueurs to consider would be Drambuie or Yellow Chartreuse (if you can find it). Not exact matches, but similar.

@@AndersErickson Thank you very much for your answer and attention, believe it or not, I have Drambuie and Charthreus yellow and green, so I will do both tests very grateful.
Love the channel! Anders I've been making this drink with your ratios for a while and its delish but I'm using B&B because i cant find regular Benedictine. Is my cocktail way off of what a proper one would taste like?
You made a comment about the size of glass and planning accordingly. Is there a formula for how much water, by volume (or proportion), to expect from dilution? Your recipe was 3.5 oz booze for a 5.5oz glass. So...usually 2 oz water? Thank you for indulging my over-thinking...
I made this and it was ok. I added a couple bar spoons of peated whiskey to overcome the sweetness of the cocchi and the Benedictine. It was so much better and I don't like peat.
So I've finally gotten my hands on a bottle of Cocchi di Torino a while ago and have been trying it out in a number of cocktails now. And what I've found is that it is *very* sweet indeed. I love all of its cola and chocolate notes, as Anders has pointed out, but just find it a bit too sweet. Now, taking that in mind, I rejiggered the specs here to only 1/2 oz of the Cocchi, and I have to say the results (for me, and my tastes, at least) are magical. Suddenly one of my favorite scotch cocktails, maybe just favorite cocktails in general. Great stuff. Thank you.
Cool Drink. Like them as well. Tastes Like Christmas to me when I change the drink just a Little. Orange! Like how Anders uses a really well chilled glass. Put a little ice in your coupe before making the drink and that will help.

All depends on personal preference. Carpano Antica is also wonderful - rich with added notes of vanilla. You could easily substitute with it in this drink. Cheers, Lucas!
Bartenders seem to love Monkey Shoulder. I once had a Rob Roy made with it, and it was very good. So I bought a bottle. With soda, neat, or on the rocks, Monkey Shoulder is absolutely cloying. Much better Scotchs at half the price.

@@AndersErickson haha it’s surprisingly the scotch! Still got my benedictine from the vieux carre. Finally a perfect excuse to grab some Monkey Shoulder.
Made this with Ballantines and a Spanish vermut, was tasty but can’t help but think the Ballantines let it down a little, lacked a little touch of caramel charriness that a better blended scotch might give note: I still like Ballantines for an entry level blended scotch
So if the glass is 5.5 onces, and there's 3.5 onces of ingredients and the wash line goes all the way to the top, does that mean there's 2 onces of water in the drink ? That seems like a lot
That’s right. Most cocktails will end up being anywhere from 30-40% water after dilution. In this case, after about 30 seconds of stirring. The added water helps balance out the cocktail. This drink was still plenty strong. Of course you should always try different dilution ratios and see what works best for you. Cheers!
