The thinking was probably splitting the medallion while they were in the swamp water, then giving it over once out of it.
That way Pollo could keep mobility on the edges of the swamp, and Peter would be fine since he has infinite dash from the swamp. Once they are out of the swamp area, then they want to maximize on only one of them being able to have consistent dashes.
