I love Flea and RHCP’s!! But the beauty of the way Jaco played it was his placement of the notes and feel was like no other. No one ever plays it quite like Jaco did!! He just laid back a millisecond on notes and had his unique feel. Probably the best ever even though there is a long list of my favorite bass players.
I heard an interview with Flea years ago where he said that Anthony Kiedis was walking through a park in New York in the mid-eighties, and Jaco was playing 'Louie Louie', busking for change.
Being able to play those difficult lines as loudly as he is, is insane! The way he always has that raspy sound from plucking so strongly has influenced my playing so much

A large portion of the population thinks weather report is what you get on the 10 o'clock news right after the sports update. Add to that so many have had their ears damaged by shitty music of the times and what do you expect.
I love the sound of new bass strings. I have a buddy's bass at my place with its original strings. Thing has never been cleaned. Although I'm tempted to polish it up and put new strings on it, lol, I told him I'd keep it nice and dirty, grimey and thumpy for him like he asked.
Every time I hear Flea play I just want to practice for the rest of forever trying to get that same level. Jaco too, but I personally like Flea’s punk funk style better

IMO he was that one missing piece that took them next level. Listen to his bass lines on songs like the Magicians Birthday and you'll see what I mean.

Read his autobiography, Acid for the Children. It's a great read, and actually a work of art in and of itself. It is not entirely linear, and includes poetry and other kinds of experimental writing along with the expected expository prose. He's a true artist.
Yes. To be honest it’s not that hard. But to play at the tempo that Jaco played it live, you would want to back off a little to give your fingers the headroom for dynamics, and for more subtlety in the groove. Think of a pianist trying to play every note of a uptempo jazz solo at fortississimo, (triple forte).

I've come to know Jaco's niece over the last few years. We are in Michigan and she has many fond memories of her uncle. I will have to share this with her. 😁

I attended a gig of Red Hot Chili Peppers last summer. And Flea skills impressed me the most. Incredible bass player!
