- How to Grow Portulaca & Purslane from Cuttings - Here in this video, I have shown the best way to grow Portulaca & Purslane from cuttings. You would also get the complete care tips in the same video. Portulaca & Purslane are one of the best summer flowering plants and they are great as a ground cover as they grow quite fast. Within just 30 days, they covered my entire pot and started to bloom as well.
Things that you would learn from this video -

My Portulaca have just started to bloom. Yesterday was the first bloom..had been waiting for them to bloom since a long time. So happy to see the bloom.

That's an amazing display of flowers! I expected you to divide the cuttings after rooting. Growing portulaca and purslane together gives different texture, too. I'm going to try this method! :)
What do you do to protect them from powdery mildew which seems to infest my portulucas?
They are the easiest to grow, even from seeds :) one of the best summer plants

I just collected seeds off of my yellow portulaca, I couldn't believe how small they were! I spent 2 hrs a a magnifying glass picking the tiny seeds away from debris, but now I have at least a thousand seeds! I'm going to check germination rates soon!

Thank you for that video...now i know the difference Potulaca and Purslane. I now also learnt why my Portulaca plants been looking so unhealthy and dying..i've been over watering and there maybe bugs that are eating out the plant.

Thank you very much for your feedback, much appreciated! Well, it's better if we can do..but honestly saying, bit difficult to keep doing dead-heading on Portulaca as they bloom daily. If we don't deadhead, the produce seedpods..which takes lots of energy. Whenever I grow in bigger pot, like 16-18 inch wider pot, I don't spend time on deadheading though..Thank you once again and sir is not required actually!
Spraying neem n soap water mix seems to damage the leaves..what to do? Will neem oil be effective against spider mites also?

Hi.. I did the same with my purslane .. and they even started blooming... I have one query though I have re potted my rose plants into a bigger pot.. they are showing symptoms of transplant shock. how do i deal with it.. I shifted them in shade. please share tips so that they revive quickly.
@Pragya Hazari, Glad to know your Purslane are blooming well, great work :-) Transplant shock - well, other than waiting, we can't do anything much. The plant is in stress and so would take few more days. Please make sure it gets enough water and avoid watering too much. Just keep the soil moist enough would be okay and you did good thing by shifting it to shade. No worry, it would come back soon, Good luck :-)

@Sl Magare, You really don't have to worry...just few more days and they would start blooming soon (as I mentioned they start to bloom heavily from around June). Groth achi rahi hai to, jabar dast flowering hogi :-) Actually, koi bhi vegetables peels ho ya flowering, use thoda time lagta hai acha fertilizer banne me. TH-cam me bahat galat info hai...I would do a video with result soon :-) So, no worry at all, it would bloom. Aap, pani thoda kam dijiyega..
Buds on my Portulaca are drying out while small. What should I do to stop this from happening?
Drying out...please check how you are watering. Either they are getting more or less water..

Glad to know and thank you very much! August - well, they almost stop blooming from October end onwards. So, you can still grow them if you like. Get the cutting which have buds already. That way, you can enjoy the bloom from next day itself after planting them.

@Dibakar Paul, It's worm if I am not wrong...well, you are lucky that you are able to see worms. No worry, they would make the process much faster and you don't have to worry about anything :-)

Sir I have got mealy bug and ant in my purslane plant and I have try the neem solution but all the leaves of the plant have fallen. Please can you suggest any other solution.
@Jinny Ramasami, Well, it shouldn't be because of the Neem oil as it's organic. But still, we shouldn't use too high concentrate solution (5-7 ml in 1 liter is just fine). If the leaves are falling, then look like you are either over watering your plants or they are not getting enough direct sunlight. I leave the plants on open space . Do I need to move to cover areas during raining season?
@Melissa Ding, Actually it depends...If you have used shallow pot and very well drained soil, then there is not to cover the areas. Rainfall in my place is quite high and I keep them in open area and they just do fine. They are quite hardy and in most cases, you don't have to cover areas during raining season. But still, if you see they are not growing actively and soil is too wet, it would be better to protect them from too much rainfall. Thank you :-)

Purslane ko धूप मे रखा है पर flowers सुबह खिलते है और एक घंटे तक रहते है शाम तक नही रहते plz suggest.
@Jyoti Nanda, Dono hi sirf din tak rahte hai aur शाम तक नही रहते...abhi to hamare yaha 3-4 baje tak khilta rahta hai..lakin jab temp thoda jyada ho jayega, jald hi murja jayega. Aur धूप nehi hone se, khilta bhi nehi hai. Islie ye flower ko nine o'clock flower bhi bola jata hai kyoki khilta hai office time me :-) Ye nature hai is flower ka..no worry!
I got the seeds online n it was totally failure....till now they dint germinate, I don't know why.....
