Fun fact: you already know mamamoo is loved by the lgbt+ community but um oh ah yeah in special is always played at seoul pride. The mv is seen as queer because it's about a girl falling in love with another girl, even tho she thinks it's a guy.
It's also mamamoo's national anthem, they usually sing in the end of the concerts 😄

They trolled Dispatch with Um Oh Ah Yeah promotion. Solar and Moonbyul (dressed as a guy like in the video) went on a date and dispatch and other sites published photos and articles about the mysterious guy Solar is dating. RBW had to apologize but Dispatch never bothered them about dating rumors again.

The chief prankster Baek Ji-Young is a legendary singer herself and she's a big fan of Mamamoo. They pranked the girls saying that she will produce the MV.
Anyway the mighty Queens of the Moomoo nation have gone through hell because of their non standard looks but they out performed everyone with their pure talent.

When you watch Um Oh Ah Yea's live performances on music shows, you're the best and the video of taller than you, then you're going to really discover how crazy they can be and how little they take themselves seriously. I recommend that you see a compilation of the additions of these songs, it's a non-stop laugh.

Retro mamamoo is what drew me to them back in the early days of their career. I've always been someone intrigued or drawn to vintage themes and styles, it also really helped that their vocals were incredible.

their older songs have such a different vibe from their newer ones, and it's so cool to see just how much they've grown (both as people and as artists- although they may have just gotten to be more crackhead-y as time has gone by haha)
i love their old vibe and the jazziness, and i equally love all the new and different concepts they've tried over the years
    see you tomorrow!!!

great songs, piano man is my favorite of these. all these were also redone in 2021, so you can hear them singing these songs now in their late 20s and early 30s instead of younger. Um ah oh yeh has an acapella version live with a beatbox guy done pentatonix style. Mamamoo is a group where I suggest MVs and Live because Live, it is just unreal on how extremely good they are live(perfect belts and harmonies even at the end of a 3 hr concert) but their MVs are well produced, stories told or comedy, some are extremely emotional, like their current song Save Me(mamamoo+ not the full group) and your the best, hilarious they all fall for the guy, he makes them work to exhaustion and then they become happy 4 other girls are now going to be put to work. also that very last 123 eoi, that is actually on their latest album as a song itself and really good, throws back to the retro style also. There are over 300 videos with the collabs, covers and the Solo albums, all 4 have 2 solo albums, extra singles and moonbyul and solar released 2 mamamoo+ albums this year, they do 25 songs a year. And they all have youtube, Solar is my bias and she has the most content on youtube, another must watch. She has covers of Michael Jackson man in the mirror acapellas of lady gaga and imagine dragons, one of the best franki valli covers on her end of year karaoke and in that she sings live one of the songs from the musical mata hari which he was the lead actress in last year. and the comedy and variety TV shows, it is a lot. One of the best examples of vocal flexing is a pikachu song they sing dressed as pokemon, and the booger costumes for 1 CM live, hilarious.

Yeah, the prank in Mr Ambiguous was cruel. RBW's co-CEO Kim Dohoon wrote the song for Quincy Jones and the girls performed it for Quincy when he was in Seoul for a concert while they were still rookies and didn't have a name for their group. When QJ decided not to use the song, which was originally called Mamamoo, Kim Dohoon changed the title to the similar sounding Mr Ememoho (Mr Ambiguous), gave it to them for their debut single and the original song title became the group's name.
Their first few albums are known as Mamamoo's Retro Era where they mixed jazz and swing with 60's and 70's rock, soul and funk. RBW tends to use more real instruments than other kpop labels, esp in Mamamoo's retro era, so rather than synths and programmed drums you get real guitar, piano, bass, drums and a horn section. Mamamoo always uses a live band for their Korean concerts. During this time they started appearing on Immortal Songs where they also used a live band and before they end of 2015 they had won an episode of Immortal Songs, becoming the first girl group to win on the show. Pretty impressive for a rookie group made up of audition rejects and retreads from other companies struggling to establish themselves under a tiny startup agency.
You'll have to watch the Um Oh Ah Yeah MV a few times before you can process the satire implied by the cross-dressing craziness and the dodgy behavior by Solar and Hwasa with their drink drugging, sexual harassment and outright attempted assault. Or the smutty hetero male fantasyland characters Solar takes on in her pursuit of Moonbyul - a flirtatious French maid, a coffee, tea or me stewardess (clearly set in a world pre-dating "flight attendant") and a hot to trot night nurse. Obviously they're sending up male sexual fantasies and misbehavior. In the MV a song about a woman who flips the gender role script by taking the initiative in starting a relationship gets turned into a farcical SNL skit where women invade male bodies and spaces and act just as badly as the guys do. Note that the dance scenes are set in exclusively male territory - a public men's room and a barber shop. And while they're exploding gender norms and mocking male crudity and misdeeds they disrupt the notion of normative heterosexuality by asking the question "What if you thought you were straight but found yourself attracted to someone of the same gender?" Like the prank in their debut MV this is another Only Mamamoo moment.
As you probably recall from the guide You're the Best was Mamamoo's first #1 hit on the weekly GAON/Circle chart and their first song to earn them wins on the tv music shows. At the very end of the MV you can hear their chipmunk voices saying "Hanna, dul, set, eoi! (1, 2, 3, Eoi!), which is Mamamoo's team chant. In the behind the scenes videos on MMM-TV you'll often see them doing the chant before going on stage. They eventually turned 1, 2, 3, Eoi! into a song that was released on their most recent group album Mic On and it was the first song they performed during the My Con 2023 world tour.
Here's a list of b-sides on their first four albums that have MVs:
Hello: Don't Be Happy, Peppermint Chocolate (pre-debut singles)
Pink Funky: Ahh Oop! (collab with eSNa, promoted as a single 2 months prior to the album's release)
Melting: 1 CM/Taller Than You (pre-release single); Girl Crush (OST), My Hometown, Recipe

I probably have an unpopular opinion on the matter, but I don't think it's that cruel of a prank. Yes it breaks our hearts to ever see mamamoo cry, but as bubbly and colorful as kpop is on the outside, it is infact a cutthroat business. This moment may (or may not) have propelled a fire in them as well. I don't think that was the intention, but it's possible having such a scary moment happen with their closest staff and learning the importance of leaving it all out on the stage, helped mold who mamamoo became. There's only a handful of groups who can stand around without a choreo and just a mic and absolutely dominate the stage, and moments like these all cumulate to shaping the identity of a group like mamamoo

    • @kudgeond755
      @kudgeond755 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@josephkim3542 Ok, we have different opinions about the prank. Thanks for taking the time to share yours. Here's mine:
Regardless of whether they cried it was cruel and unusual gratuitous punishment. A prank should be funny and this one isn't. MMM has said they were working nonstop to make everything as perfect as possible and were under so much pressure that they didn't even get to enjoy their debut. They had already been read the "you're not pretty and cute or tall and lean so you'd better be great performers" riot act and a famous senior artist comes in ostensibly to give them tips and feedback and tells them their performance sucks. Kpop is a tough world to break into but the trainee bootcamp style humiliation tactics should have ended well before the MV shoot. They're not going to war, they're preparing to bring joy to people through their music and performances. This was the time to build their confidence, not shake it.

If you want more of the black and white you can go back to their 2 predebut vids Don't be Happy and Pepperming chocolate. You might want to react to both the pre debut version and then the 2021 version, which includes a Moonbyul rap not in the original.
In Um Oh Ah Yeah in addition to the drag they are flipping gender in other ways. Solar portraying 4 different common male fantasy objects is aggressively pursuing Moonbyul and playing the negative male role of not taking no for an answer. Also the dance sequences happening in a barber shop and men's room they are claiming male spaces. This song is an Korean LGBT anthem (as well as being Mamamoo's normal encore song) and you will hear it played at practically all Korean pride events.
Solar's expressions on seeing the guy are so great. In the filming of Your the Best she fell in the swimming pool. The cute guy is a member of the RBW group Vromance. If you look carefully the last interaction of each member with the guy you'll see that they are getting fed up with helping him with everything, hence the celebrating him greeting the new group of women.

I always wonder that most reactors don’t seem to to catch the way that the MV for You’re the Best is going and notice that the ending is of the girls celebrating that he has found 4 new “lucky” girls. Also, I never checked this out but judging by the scenery, and some other clues was this MV filmed in Vietnam?

    • @hq3727
      @hq3727 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@JLALALALA I think they mentioned in the behind the scenes that they filmed it in Thailand. :D
I also find it funny that most reactors didn't reslised that MMM was actually celebrating in the ending of You're the Best. I guess since most reactors were new to them when they first reacted to YTB, it's pretty overwhelming and they were too chaotic in it for them to understand that.
(Also, I feel that most KPOP MVs don't seem to have a story plot in them, so most reactors were not used to seeing/trying to understand the story behind the MV? But I love how most, if not all, of MMM's MVs have a meaning/story.

Byul throwing champagne in my face in Piano Man gives me life 😂
Before UOAY, a picture of Solar kissing what looked like a guy from behind was released with a headline like 'omg! Who is Solar dating?' But it was actually Moonbyul and they did it as marketing for the comeback 😂 genius move.
I was so suprised when they released this gay-ass song with such an absurd MV 😂

If I’m understanding what you mean by special clips, I have a handful of recommendations. Even if you don’t want to react to all of them, they’re worth checking out.
    - Mamamoo’s first Immortal Songs performance: You might remember from the group guide that it was only a few months after their debut and the first time that a lot of people saw them perform. It’s really great so I’ll leave a link: th-cam.com/video/j5TFq8t-q1A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2YYU3lvDuSiPfmOQ
    - A compilation of Mamamoo’s Um Oh Ah Yeah Ad Libs (they’re very funny)
    - “Ah Oop” from Pink Funky has a music video that’s pretty wild
    - “1cm Taller than You” from Melting is an iconic fan favorite song and a Mamamoo Must See. Their CEO heard them bickering about their heights so much that he told them to turn that energy into a song, and as a result we now have this masterpiece.
    - The live performance of “I Miss You” from the Melting album on Queendom. If you react to this one, you’ll want to keep it to your Patreon because Queendom performances tend to get blocked, but it’s another really iconic moment that you should definitely watch, even if you don’t react to it. Mamamoo was on Queendom (a survival competition show for girl groups) at the same time that they were doing their Four Seasons concert as well as secretly preparing for their next comeback “HIP.” It was pretty clear that they legitimately didn’t care about the rankings on the show, but in spite of being known for their performances, they expressed a couple times that they worried that with how busy they were that their stages would disappoint their fans. They dedicated their performance of “I Miss You” to their MooMoos and included videos from their trainee days. Moonbyul even rewrote her rap verses from the song to tell MooMoos directly how much they missed spending time closer with them.
Hopefully that helps with your decisions for your special clips for these albums :)

i agree that the prank in mr ememoho is really mean. a wild thing to have someone like baek jiyoung do to girls who idolise her. i guess thats just how pranks are in 2014. mean. everyone in that video is super famous and already was at that time, it mustve been such a stressful recording if nothing else.
i do recommend looking into kwill, wheesung/realslow, and baek jiyoung. great musicians. just a thought. adding them to a future list or something. idk
anyway: not to bring the mood down(im sorry) but "the guy" (you said "this guy is all of us" and my conscience needs me to scream NO) and the guitarrist are criminals, dont look them up if youre not prepared to be angry and upset. i dont understand why mmm fans dont warn anyone about this fact. it always makes me uncomfortable when i see someone point at that creepy mfer. i genuinely am sorry that im the one bringing it up, i just felt like i had to.
i think someone else in the video is a different(less genuinely inhumane from what i know. drugs probably) type of criminal too. and one of them is a founder of a different company but i dont think they have girl groups

I wonder about the names that appear on the Mr. Ambiguous MV. Are all of these names real? One of them near the beginning was “Wheesung”. I think another was Lee Jung Hyun. I’m not sure how common that name is - I know there are many common names in Korea, but Lee Jung Hyun is a very famous 1st gen Kpop singer who went in to become a famous actress. By the way @Rougue if you ever decide to react to some much earlier Korean Kpop LJH is one of the most amazing singers with some of the craziest MV’s and live performances. Techno meets Kpop. And a finger mic to top it off 😂 late 1990’s was her greatest era.
