    Hopper footage: 2:42 , 29:02 , 47:40
    I apologize for the squealing blade, it makes that sound when it gets really full, and could probably use some grease.
    Note: This was a very windy day, so you may see some refuse fly from the hopper, despise my best efforts. Residents of the neighborhood were alerted as to the problem. I think this video really highlights the weaknesses in the general McNeilus design; namely that the blade is not as efficient as packing in recycling as if I were using, say a DaDee/BTE Scorpion box. As such, more refuse is left in the open for longer, leading to more spilling than if the box could pack more refuse with every cycle.

    Good Video, love the LEU's! I think you may have a broken prox switch. The crusher panel should never be able to come down on a fully extended packer. Under normal operation, the truck should not allow the crusher panel to be lowered unless the pack blade and follower panels are fully retracted out of the hopper. That way, when you lower the crusher, all material is forced in front of the blade, and then into the body in one sweep. On the Labrie's, you then can only raise the panel after the cycle is started, not lower it, until, again the blade is retracted. Labrie's I know for sure have that safety built in, but I quite confident McNelius has it to. Just wanna make sure your truck doesn't self destruct!
    My experience in the best way to use the crusher panel is: Retract blade, lower crusher, pack once or twice, raise crusher. Hope this helps! :)

    • @medicalgarbage3575
      @medicalgarbage3575  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is very helpful! We got this truck used a few months ago and the packer panel was always like that; I had just assumed that it was normal haha! Hopefully this saves a bunch of time

      Do you know what kind of service do they use for these bodies? Optical? Magnetic? I don't know a ton about them

    • @Sam16034
      @Sam16034 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@medicalgarbage3575 Normally with refuse its magnetic. The panel goes forward and a sensor on the truck detects metal and sends a signal to the computer. It is possible that this truck, being a McNelius, doesnt have that safety feature. I know Labrie has it, but never talked to a McNelius driver to find out. The only reason some companies add it is to prevent breaking the follower panel if a rigid object was trapped in between the follower and crusher panels. The owners manual would say whether the truck has it or not. It's not really a big deal, just got to make sure you don't have a rigid object in between.

    • @medicalgarbage3575
      @medicalgarbage3575  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Sam16034 When we got the truck I read through the McNeilus manual and don't remember reading anything about that; that was a few months ago so I easily could have forgotten about it. One of the truck's arms keeps freezing and McNeilus says that when they get dirty, that can cause them to fail. I might try to find a prox. sensor for the blade, and if I can find it clean it? I'm not on this truck very often anymore so I'll have to steal it from my coworker one day haha

    Suggestion: Try lowering the flap thing while the hopper is open to push the boxes down into the hole, then start to pack just before raising it. Then you can lower it again while it's closed to pull the rest back towards the bottom....seems that lowering while it's closed just flattens all the boxes making it harder for them to fall into the hole. No hate, Just a suggestion....love the videos and great work! Most videos i watch the driver would never take the time to climb up and sort things out like you, shows you're a great worker! 👍

    Very neat video. Definitely enjoyed it. That cleanout seems like it’d be very frustrating to empty at the end of the route. Looks like you could easily fill 2 or 3 carts up with how much is in there. Seems like the packer could’ve been designed a bit better. Overall great work. Enjoyed watching the truck cram the last few on

    Cool video! Haven’t watched the whole thing but I checked out all the angles. Really like that first angle with the joystick. You were really packing out there at the end haha. I can only imagine how much stuff falls behind the blade with that gap when the blades fully extended. That’s a pretty big flaw I didn’t know the Autoreach had. I always find it interesting to see where trucks end up. Not sure if you knew this but this truck is originally from Toronto Canada! Keep up the great work, just subscribed!

    • @medicalgarbage3575
      @medicalgarbage3575  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment, I'm happy with the way that footage turned out too; looked cool. In terms of unloading, I do have the side arm video where I show it unloading at the end of the video. On this truck I usually have about 3 tons of recycling (which can be about 2-3 days-worth). The most I ever managed to pack on here was 11,000 pounds. Unfortunately they don't give a condition value when you dump. I will say though that I've seen far too many people throw away containers that are coated in food, used tissues, plastic bags, and even dirty toilets (no joke) in their recycling totes. When you see it go in the hopper on your camera, there's not much you can do to get it back out :(

    The amount of stuff that gets behind the blade is insane. Do you like this model better or the ZR?

    • @medicalgarbage3575
      @medicalgarbage3575  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a great question. The ZR's arm can reach further and has a larger hopper which is nice. However, I find it really useful to tilt the arm forward/backward on the AutoReach. The nail in the AutoReach's coffin for me is that the arm kinda starts to tip the can before it's entirely over the hopper, and the small hopper size; both factors result in more refuse spill, which is extremely time consuming to manage. So overall I'm going to say the ZR (as long as it doesn't jam up)
