I find it truly amazing how this guy has made all these movies. My understanding is Birdemic 2 is basically a remake of the first one, and everyone on the crew except Nguyen was in on the joke, meaning it feels kind of pandering. I agree Breen deserves respect for making multiple amazing films.

I saw it last month in Los Angeles. Excellent summation as always. The things I would add without any spoilers that I found hysterical were: In his past movies, he often recycles different takes of the same shot, but in this film he uses many of the exact same shots multiple times in the film. And the other wonderful thing was he doesnt know how to set up a split screen shot, so when he and his brother are on screen at the same time, he just uses a still shot of whichever brother isnt talking til its time for the other brother to talk, and then he does the same thing again. Everyone in the theater had a blast.
Lol, you're right! Like the shot with the bird was the same in the beginning and the end, but in the end he just added voiceover. Did you also notice that the scene where he has the nightmare, the shot with him and the woman in bed is from Fateful Findings?
Pretty sure that's stock footage; you see that shot re-used multiple times with different start points and you never see the character's face revealed in the shot.
I saw this with a buddy in LA earlier this month and dear god it was amazing. The theater was sold out and everyone knew what we’re getting into. Definitely one of the best theater experiences I’ve had in a long time.
When I originally saw the GoFundMe video for Twisted Pair, he mentioned all of the repeated tropes he did (like the laptops) and I got worried that he would try to make a "supposed to be bad" movie. I'm so glad that didn't happen.
Good point. When the directors try to make the film bad on purpose, that's when it all starts to fall apart and it doesn't have that same special feel to it. That definitely didn't happen with this movie. Has it already played in your city?
When I watched the trailer, I was really worried that Neil was becoming too aware of how terrible his movies were. I didn't want him intentionally making bad movies because then they would lose their charm. I'm glad, judging by your review, my fears were unfounded.
I can't imagine watching this in the theater. Just watched it 3 days ago. We had to put the movie on 1.5x speed for it to be digestible. That said, it was bloody amasing.

He has the mind of a slightly advanced 8 year old who loves films and is highly motivated to make them. And think about it, if you gave a hypothetical little kid about 20 grand, told them to write a film, and then hired some hungry community college 1st year film students as crew, along with a young editor/effects person who will work for barely above minimum wage, you'd get films of pretty much exactly this caliber. This is what makes his films such an enjoyable trainwreck to watch, since he's a middle-aged guy who shouldn't be making such ridiculous decisions. But he does! And hopefully he will continue doing this.

I don’t really believe in “So Bad It’s Good” as a concept anymore. If I like something for whatever reasons, than it’s good to me. There’s no objectivity in art. Any qualities we consider “good” like “good cinematography” or “good writing” are all based on a specific standard we just accept as correct. It’s still a made up standard, there’s nothing provable about it. I can admit something is “well made” without it being objectively good, there’s plenty of well made films that just don’t work for me. The same can be said about films that are poorly made based on our standards for what constitutes poorly made film that connect with me more than our perceived idea of quality. So to me Neil Breen makes good films.
The distinction is pretty simple, it's good if you admire and are engaged by the craft, it's bad if you're laughing because you're baffled someone could make such nonsensical or poor filmmaking choices.
That distinction is not always simple. I'm thinking of Suburban Sasquatch, which RedLetterMedia thought was just hilariously "bad", but then found out the director was quite aware of what he was doing, and was just having fun.
As soon as Adum said the film was "absolutely glorious" I was so happy and relieved. It's rarely often that a Director or writer can repeat their success in making a "so bad it's good film" so many times. Usually their next product just turns out to be not nearly as entertaining, or just a poor attempt to repeat their previous success (Birdemic 2 for example). In this sense, Neil Breen is kind of revolutionary. He has made so many of these glorious "specticals", and yet each are unique in their absurdity and oddity along the way. Beyond that, they are all just so entertaining, and yes, of course, poorly made/HIGHLY questionable. Yet at the same time, fascinating...and that magic has still not been lost. I'm just amazed Neil Breen has had this consistent of a track record. Even his update videos on his movies are hilarious. Are his films the best "so bad it's good" films out there? That depends on the person and their standards, and for me, I couldn't even decide for sure for myself. But Neil Breen deserves a lot of credit for not only making some of the most widely loved "so bad it's good films" out there, but for managing to do it again and again.

Having watched it with a group of friends, I gotta say, we overall preferred I Am Here ... Now, though we definitely had fun with this one
This entire video is just a checklist of reasons why I love Neil Breens films
100% we should try giving him the highest budget we possibly can do that we can see what he does with it.
As soon as Adum said the film was "absolutely glorious" I was so happy and relieved.
It's rarely often that a Director or writer can repeat their success in making a "so bad it's good film" so many times. Usually their next product just turns out to be not nearly as entertaining, or just a poor attempt to repeat their previous success (Birdemic 2 for example).
In this sense, Neil Breen is kind of revolutionary. He has made so many of these glorious "specticals", and yet each are unique in their absurdity and oddity along the way. Beyond that, they are all just so entertaining, and yes, of course, poorly made/HIGHLY questionable.
Yet at the same time, fascinating...and that magic has still not been lost.
I'm just amazed Neil Breen has had this consistent of a track record. Even his update videos on his movies are hilarious.
Are his films the best "so bad it's good" films out there?
That depends on the person and their standards, and for me, I couldn't even decide for sure for myself. But Neil Breen deserves a lot of credit for not only making some of the most widely loved "so bad it's good films" out there, but for managing to do it again and again.
