  • A brief explanation of the theory of operation behind a tractor protection valve. The data sheet for the Bendix TP-5 valve can be found here: www.plazafleetp...

cool man videos man, keep them coming! I have a question for you : is there a system that shuts down pressure to the secondary at a certain lost of psi pressure to give it all to the primary tank?

Normally you have a check valve between tanks to protect them from each other. If one become compromised the check valve will block it off so you dont lose all the system air.

This is very similar to the valve I was asking about...although I doubt its made the same way since this needs input from that ECU. Also, it would defeat the purpose of using the trailer supply to supply the tractor in case the tractor lost air. On a bus, the ancillary systems arent needed during an emergency, so they can act like a backup tank, where as the trailer eventually would lock up its wheels. Still, I think I should call the valve on my bus a protection valve rather than check valve (although safety valve is generic enough...Im also translating this in case I dont do the work myself, since I do have lots of medical issues, and there will be things I cannot do in my driveway)

Is your bus door air actuated?

@@learndiesel528 Yup. All three doors, air actuated, although without a computer, just electro pneumatics. Most things are air, even the exhaust brake, which is a featherable (is that a word lol) based on how much driver input, controls how much the butterfly valve blocks the exhaust, all without a computer or even electricity. I think the only electricals, are the lights and wipers.

Where is it generally located on a truck?
