This reminds me of when heimer supports realized selfishly rushing liandries for mana and personal damage was much worse than rushing rylais first for the utility. Cc wins games y'all
Yeah this is very similar to Heimer support! There will be some games where going selfish is fine on support, if you end up taking kills and want to hard snowball your lead. But in higher elo games it gets hard to get free kills, so I have found more success with going a more utility build, when less gold is available.
Love it. This is almost exactly the build I run on Zyra. The only exception is most of the time I also take water walking instead of scorch and I tend to prefer the treasure hunter rune.
Oh that's really interesting you take water walking. I like Scorch for the bit of extra lane pressure since it's pretty easy to land with Zyra poke. How soon in the game, do you get the the extra 450 gold from Treasure Hunter?
@@ADDikt8Gaming so typically I'll have 4 of the 5 around 10 - 12 minutes. Sometimes that 5th can be a bit tricky. We all get those games with that unkillable random, but generally I'm done by 15 minutes. So there's one other thing I do different, but I do this with all my supports for S14. I take TP instead of exhaust or ignite. It allows me to go to grind for zone control and get back to my ADC quickly. Usually there's a killl or two in that process. I grab a pink for the objective, boots, switch to sweeper and whether it's a helpful gank top or the inevitable checking to contest void grubs. Best I've ever done was 4 stack by the time I TP'd back to bottom. Our Samira secured an early double kill (I think the adc's brain stopped working because they stopped moving mid fight and support hung around too long) and at void grubs we took the jungler and mid laner. It's only happened once as far as I remember, but I have gone as long as 15 to just get 2 stacks. But seriously though, I think you should experiment with TP sometime, even if it's outside ranked matches. I've come to love the versatility of what I can be a part of that I want able to previously.
No problem! I will say that building Liandry's is still QUITE good on Zyra (especially if you're fed), but this build is what worked for me to get to Masters. I don't always go this route either depending on game states/matchups.
Guys I came back just to say that this is an amazing build, do please pay attention to two things: 1. mana consumption 2. positioning, these two are vital for this to work. If you are pushing waves, you are doing wrong, be with your carries. IT JUST WORKS
With manaflow band, I don't actually find too much trouble with mana management. Positioning though is DEFINITELY key, but that applies to all squishy supports :P. Really glad you've found success with this build!
I was wondering who let you cook, but then u mentioned rylais first item and its like all the pieces of a puzzle just slot into place. Crazy good idea, thank you for letting us know/reminding.
Yeah, there are multiple ways I believe you can play Zyra, so if this style of Rylai works for you, keep at it! I'm hoping this build or a similar one will work in the new split, but time will tell
Zyra's AP ratios are NOT BAD, so building AP on her isn't terrible. The only issue is Zyra can get caught out fairly easily, so you can lose stacks super quick. Dark seal on enchanters are usually a more common option just cause it's super easy to get assists on them when ahead. The question really is will the 350 gold gamble on Dark Seal be strong enough to compensate for Legendary build delay. Maybe?
I was playing this back when echos of helia+font of life was a thing (I loved it lol) and I've been running rylai first ever since into mandate. So good.
Cryptobloom I think is the better version of Void Staff now so if it's working for you keep at it. It's a bit pricey of an item and the healing scales off AP. I think if you want to play more carry oriented Liandry into Cryptobloom is one of the highest damage builds for Zyra. Works great if you get some early kills and want to solo carry! I will definitely try this build out in the games I get fed in!
I think if you are taking kills from your ADC (it happens...). Going double burn items (blackfire + liandry's) is a VERY strong build for Zyra. You can solo carry any game pretty much, but it works better if you are ahead in the game. Rylai is still my preferred playstyle since it provides utility for the rest of your team to carry. It's really a preference playstyle, and dependent on who's getting the kills (you or the rest of your team).
Hey addikt I've really been enjoying this build whenever I have people on my team I can enable rather than trying to carry myself, but I've noticed you've swapped to more of a standard build, typically going rylais into liandrys most games. Would you say standard zyra is more effective than this build now?
Hi Breerae, glad you are enjoying this more utility style build! I have switched recently to a more standard build because they nerfed Mandate a bit a few patches ago. They took out 10 AP from Fiendish Codex, and they nerfed the damage on proc from 12 -> 10%. However, the IDEA of Rylai first is still viable, even though it may not fit everyone's style. I will say though that the new **Fated Ashes** item, slots in REALLY nicely into Zyra's build path, as a mini burn, so slotting that in before Rylai MIGHT be my new build. Haven't played any games yet for the new split, but hoping to get in some games soon!
You can convert Oblivion Orb to Morello for 1400 gold in late game, but I wouldn't sell any of my items to Shadowflame late game. You can use your extra gold to buy Elixirs instead. Maybe like SUPER late game, I'd sell and buy Sorc Boots and SUPER SUPER late game if I somehow have lots of gold, sell Mandate for Shadowflame? I haven't really gotten into such a scenario though this season.
Yeh, cdr Zyra can be super fun. Just note that you will be doing MUCH less damage. If you get fed, Id consider buying more damage heavy items. Of course if this cdr build works for you then just keep at it!
Do you try buy malignance first item? I think it can be optional at least when you are ahead or with APC. I mean it costs only 100 gold more expensive than rylai. What do you think?
I have not bought it first, but it DOES seem interesting. With an APC and being ahead definitely seems like the right angle to go Malignance. It's a bit more risky build since you won't have any health in the build, but when you are ahead, you could snowball really fast and simply play around your ultimate. I might test this build in games where I can link up with a good APC bot!
It's really a personal preference. Transcendence is definitely not a bad choice to get you more CDR. I've just been enjoying Celerity for that bit of extra movement speed. But if you find that you can dodge skillshots and position fine without it, Transcendence is perfectly fine, too.
Finally see someone with the same ideas. Been loving Celerity & 2& MS on Zyra! Also helps dodge lots of skillshots in the lane phase. Is Shurelya ever good on her though?
Dodging skill shots is super useful! I really do feel rune choices should be customized to the player preferences! As for Shurelya I would only buy it in cases where you need a quick disengage tool. The AP value on it is quite efficient. Maybe versus like a Fiddle Ult or Aurelion Sol Ult or Swain Ult? Need to experiment more!
Damage playstyle is PERFECTLY valid! That's what I love about Zyra is that you can play her a couple different ways. There even used to be a tank Zyra build with Radiant Virtue (but that sadly got removed from the game). Blackfire Torch + Liandry is I think stronger than going Liandry + Morello if you want to go pure damage.
@@ADDikt8Gaming Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try tomorrow! :D Today I tried out a few matches with your build and it still did quite the dmg output and helped my teammates get more kills than me. Definitely a good build in general but I found it a bit hard to play it against a healing support. ^^'
Hmmm I've only tried it a few times in ranked and I'm not 100% sold on it. It's still quite an expensive item but I can see game situations where it would work well. Maybe if you pair it with a teammate who can trap them in your ultimate zone. It's definitely a more carry oriented build, which works better in unranked and lower elos.
9:50 Hi, I'd just like to quickly point out that it's 1% movement speed - and then 7% more effective bonuses (maybe that's what you meant but 7% movement speed straight up would have been crazy)
very well guide and I agree the spent for making zyra powerful is great but if you can't reduce the speed of the opponents or spam multiple plants it's not that useful
Thanks! I love Zyra support since you can play it as pure damage style and land all your Q's, or you can play utility and just spam/slow enemies with plants (or BOTH!).
I didn't go over the basics of Zyra in this guide, but she's a pretty straightforward champ once you learn the basic combos. The biggest beginner tip is really just to cast your Q and E BEFORE pressing W, since there is a slight delay before the Q and E spells are actually cast!
Zyra is probably my most played champion over my many years of League of Legends :). I love trying to find interesting builds, but it gets harder and harder to discover them especially in higher elos. I may not be able to pilot them myself, but I'll keep an eye out for them!
Hm... if you max Q, you do get a lot more damage on the Q spell, but that would mean you are confident in landing the Q spell. In that case, I would rather simply buy damage items like a Luden's or Liandry's. I have a hard time landing every Q spell, so that's why I rather invest my skill points in E for the longer root duration or W for more plants. The extra cooldown you get for another point in Q is not really worth it for the opportunity cost of getting a better E or W. The build I propose is really using plants for map control and slowing the enemies down to more easily land your E. Imo, Q max works better for hard carry APC Zyra in mid/bot, where you will be going full damage, less utility.
@@ADDikt8Gaming I always max q because I like doing the chip damage and if I can't rely on my teammates I need to be able to carry by myself. I solo q. But I also go Ludens. I never find myself needing the cooldown faster on e or I don't that often. I figured that if you could hit with your q and the plants slow down you get more shots at higher damage. But I didn't consider that you were using the slow to land the e. Like you said, it's way better for you utility. My strategy relies on convincing the opponent that I've gone back and then one shoting them. I always end up doing the most damage but I often don't allow my ADC to do enough and get kills. Maybe I should try this build
Ironically I kind of do the opposite of you. I use my e to land the q. When I'm not using my q to poke. Full combo is e>r>q>w>w to get the r plants as the q plants (better damage and range.
@@kndhrty If you're confident in landing Qs, Q max is absolutely deadly. I'm not great at landing them since it can be easily telegraphed. Like your next comment said, land E then Q is how you would want to play Q max build. More points in E actually doesn't decrease the cooldown, just increase the root duration. Often times people think there's only one way to build a champion, but based on playstyle preference, there certainly is more than one way to build. STICK WITH YOUR BUILD IF YOU LAND Qs!!! I'm just providing an alternative build philosophy for Zyra players who can't hit Qs as easily (aka me xD)

Disagree. Both utility or damage can work as a Zyra SUPPORT. I think going damage definitely has a higher cap, but I personally have found success with this build, 61% Zyra winrate in Masters. I don't always go this route, and it's game dependent. For example, if I'm fed early, I can still buy Liandry's earlier. This isn't a PURE utility build, there is still a good amount of damage with the build, it's just that you play around different power spikes. Also, I think support has A LOT of agency. You don't always need to rely on damage, there are other ways to win (even on Zyra).
@@ADDikt8Gaming this build will never be effective constantly enough to use regularly, also forget ever about using this in lower elo. It's so niche and situational, that you are better off picking another champ in those situations
@@sora63 I mentioned in the video that this build might work better in higher elo, but it can be effective in any elo. Just saying this build works for me. And I have had several ppl from the community tell me they have also found success with it. Have you at least TRIED it in your elo bracket?
This build is actually effective in mid Wild Rift elo. There are so many damage in Wild Rift already, everyone dies within a second. Rylai will provide the reliable CC that Zyra needs. If you are in low elo, it is best to build Liandry's first.
Unfortunately this build won't work as well on Brand. The idea here is to use your extended plant range to apply slows. Brand is harder to play utility and would probably want to go pure damage. He's also better at bursting too than Zyra. Happy to be proven wrong though so maybe try it out and let me know!

Can this build work on brand ? Great vid btw
Unfortunately this build won't work as well on Brand. The idea here is to use your extended plant range to apply slows. Brand is harder to play utility and would probably want to go pure damage. He's also better at bursting too than Zyra.
Happy to be proven wrong though so maybe try it out and let me know!
