    You are a wealth of knowledge. I never knew that about sassafras. Just having knowledge of different kinds of wood is a "skill"!! Great video!

    Excellent work! They don't make tools like they used to so reviving them makes sense and they look great. I have an ax and a hatchet I want to try to make handles for. What are your gumbo ingredients? lol

      found a very rusty old pitchfork with 2 out of 3 prongs. The handle is very eroded,but still all there. Can't wait for the gumbo video!

    Hello d.s.h. Good video. Do you have a favorite shape of handle that gives the tool that just right feel for your hand? Also do you use linseed oil? The flak seed oil is new to me.you cant beat those stir paddles for outside cooking.one more? Do you raise cushaw there. I am wanting to make some cushaw butter outside. Danny you have brought back some good memories.god bless James....

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +James Humerick We do not grow cushaw here. I like oval shape handles, not round. Linseed and flax come from the same plant. Flax is safe for human consumption and linseed is extracted with chemicals. Thanks

    Knowing what type of wood to use on what project is a good thing to know. I have an abundance of tung oil poles about 8' long. I know they can be substitutes for balsa wood. Any suggestions on what to use these poles for? .....Joe

    when you find a hammer head in the garbage, how do you get rid of the rust?

  • @Retired_SeniorChief
    @Retired_SeniorChief 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Danny what about linseed oil?

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Retired SeniorChief Flax seed oil is harmless, linseed is made from the same plant but solvents are used to extract it. Flax is for human consumption and linseed is not. That is the only difference.

      We raise most of our food and barter for things. Your family was blessed to have learned these skills. Thanks
