    Subfolders are definitely the best way for multi disc games. Just add a period to the start of the subfolder name and that hides it in the menu. Only the m3u in the main folder shows in the menu, as a single entry. Then edit the m3u files to include the new subfolder in the path, and be cautious to use the proper forward/backward slash depending on target operating system. Even then, that's easy, and this way you don't need to hide all the other single disc game's cue files.

      Personally, I find it easier to just manually hide the excess cue files for multidisk games via the select menu on the device itself. There is a toggle called "hidden" in the metadata section in that menu. It's a lot faster if you have like 50 psx games (only a handful are multidisk) and don't want to make m3u files for each single disk game. Then you just keep cue and m3u files enabled in the menu.

    When using ArkOS for PSX, you can subfolder your games to organize the files if you wish. The tools menu as a "create m3u files" for the PSX console, it will create a single file that links your subfolders to the game. Then you can "hide all buy m3u" files in the PSX directory to have a perfectly clean and organized game list :)

I want to get as much performance as I can for these games, so I'll switch to bin/raw/gdi. So my question is, for multi-disc dreamcast games how do you make the list tidy in emulation station? m3us don't work w/ dreamcast as far as I can tell. I'm running arkos on the 351v and under the main options menu, there are options PS1 - Generate m3u files and PS1 - Show only m3u files. Running these scripts does all the work for you. Make sure you don't already have any m3u files in your folder because they will cause problems with the tool. The tool only works with .cue and .chd files. After creating the files, you can scrape the media and you're done. While this tool saved me a lot of time, it is only for ps1 games (probably because dreamcast doesn't have many multi-disc games).

    For anyone wondering, if you wanna keep your save files and save states, your .srm and .state files must have the same name as the .m3u file. Also you can create an m3u file with iso files, I don't know if m3u files can contain img files, but you can create cue files for the img files, and then put those cue files inside the m3u.

      .m3u file can contain anything, but the emulator core must have support for that. You can even put full file names with the path to them or use relative path. I suppose it would be useless for handheld, but on my computer I prefer to create .m3u files for games I'm playing currently and to keep them on a different drive, so I wouldn't have to deal with dozen of files and folders when I choose a game in RetroArch.

    Two comments, firstly you can also hide the bin and cue files by moving them to a directory prefixed with a period, this makes it hidden, no need to mess with extension file types then. And secondly I believe bin and cue files are better than chd, due to the fact that emulsion station automatically will disk switch for you if the file is in bin and cue format (if named correctly), this will not happen with chd, at least that is what I have read.
    Edit- you might also want to mention you can use winscp with 351ELEC too, saves wear and tear on the micro SD slot

    • @sertiana2512

    First of all I would suggest converting all those track.bin files into one single new bin file with CDmage and overwrite the old cue file, that will leave you with only one cue & bin file, instead of having 15 single bin files for one single game.
    To make multiple m3u files, put your files into folders and run a batch with:
    for /R "%~dp0" %%I in (*.cue) do for %%J in ("%%~dpI.") do echo %%~nxI>>"%%~dpI%%~nxJ.m3u"
    This saves you a lot of manual work and time.

      True I also have a powershell script that will do all CHD files in a folder and make m3us while only preserving the filename and (country) in the final name.... I believe it can be modified to target any file extension in a folder easily though.

    • @DeadVoivod
      @DeadVoivod 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cleverestx Yes, you add whichever extension you want to have in a m3u playlist, very practical for handhelds with RetroArch as it supports playlists, makes the gamelist look much cleaner, especially for computer based systems.
      Just edit in (*.cue, *.d64, *.dsk, *.atr), add whatever you need and as many as you want.

    Thanks for the video! Super helpful, as always! I was finally able to get all my PlayStation games sorted out thanks to you! I have a question. I was taking the files from my Dreamcast game folders and putting them into the main folder and ran into a problem (maybe?). There's more than one game that has a file called 'track.1'. not sure what to do about that besides just keep my games separated into folders for the time being. Any help would be much appreciated.

      Hi, you can change the file name from "track 1" to something that you can associate with the game ("sonic track 1"), and then just be sure to open the .gdi file with a text editor and change the names in there too. This functions a lot like the bin/cue structure on the PS1.

    Ahh great timing on this vid, I just upgraded to a bigger SD card and was struggling to get multi-disc PS1 & Dreamcast games going! Russ, I know this tutorial is PS1-focused, but do you know if the same can be applied for Dreamcast cue files? I'm not too clear on the distinction between cue/gdi files yet...

    Are there downsides to php files other than their rarity? Also is there a way to just convert to php to simplify or is that also not a thing? Please pardon my total ignorance. Just a thought! Thanks Russ!

    Hi Russ. I’m running your first Linux build for the RG552 (Batocera I think) I tried to “clean up” my PSX section by unselecting .bin files from the View Customization option and then the whole PSX section disappeared. Any advice on how to bring it back? At the Home Screen when I press select and look at available systems it is still checked. But no PSX section. Thanks for your help!

    PBP! I love and prefer them for ps1. Usually have to use a converter to turn iso and bin files to pbp as ones I find often fail on my 351m

    • @sertiana2512
      @sertiana2512 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      PBP doesn't support a lot of games with multiple tracks per disc. And like Russ said, converting pbp means you will miss the cue file, which is more or less needed to run each disc properly.

    Hey Russ, great stuff as per usual!
    So I’m running the latest version of arkOS on the rg351p- do you know if it is possible to load in/access music CDs(or music playlists?) for psx games like vib-Ribbon or the kaleidoscope visualizer? I’ve tried tinkering around in retroarch but can’t seem to gain any traction.
    Thanks in advance for any thoughts or constructive comments!

      That would be great for Monster Rancher too, in theory. You had to insert music CDs to summon different monsters, which would be a great aspect of the game to be able to emulate!

    I just noticed that I don't have pbp files for my multidisc games... I hope is easy to make them or to find another way to digitally eject/put new discs. I think most games ask to save before asking to change disks, so maybe I can save, exit the game and reload from a different disc? does that work? thank you for the video!!

    Thanks for the Guide! I am new to these units and i actually bought an RG353M and it seems theres not a lot of info out there on your channel yet. at least as far as i have found anyways. a lot of the stuff from these RG351 units seem to apply about the same. my sd card came loaded with games, a lot of different file types of some of the games, vs just the cue and bin files from games ive located. Im on ArkOS 2.0, and have the option to use it to make the m3u files, but it doesnt make files for these other file types (iso, img, ccd, pbp, etc..) do i need to go into the config file and add them back to the list from (10:30)? some of the games dont have cue files, so it wont create the m3u file. any help would be appreciated!

    If you only wish to use M3U files for multi-discs games, make use of subfolders, like having a "multidisc" subfolder, and put all your multi discs games in there, and have the contents of m3u files reflect the path to the discs, eg:
    multidiscs/FF7 Disc1.chd
    multidiscs/FF7 Disc2.chd
    multidiscs/FF7 Disc3.chd
    Put the m3u's in main psx folder, then hide the "multidiscs" subfolder from Emustation by editing its metadata.
