Ling cod have gnarly gill rakers. Not too safe to put your fingers in their gills either. Best way to pick them up is to squeeze them by their upper and lower lip.

Ling is the best. Rockfish I usually make a batch of fish cake with. Also good for curry/soup/stew because it's firmer. But I'd rather eat the Ling all day!! Greenling are as good as Ling as well, but smaller. Will keep large greenling over sebastes every time.

Lingcod is my favorite salt fish to cook with, it’s very versatile!
They also like 3-12oz plain banana sinkers. Just put a split ring and a hook. I've been fishing Neah Bay and LA push since the 90's.
