Since Kuiil referenced the Mythosaur early on, I’ve been wanting to see Din tame/ ride that beast. I think Boba Fett’s feat riding the Rancor ( which Din couldn’t) may have foreshadowed Din taming or befriending the beast, wielding the Darksaber. One of Din’s defining characteristics as shown in episode s1-2 is perseverance, though sometimes he needs a little push. I like the dynamic they are setting up with Bo. She could be that push while he helps her regain her belief in her people. So incredibly exciting!!

    • @IsaacKuo
      @IsaacKuo ปีที่แล้ว +7

Boba Fett didn't accomplish an unusual feat in riding the baby rancor. He was gifted the baby Rancor with blinders, so Boba Fett could be the first being it sees. The Rancor accepted Boba as its rider because of the instinct of imprinting on its mother.
This baby Mythosaur ... it hasn't been wearing blinders, but it has been living in darkness. And maybe the only reason why Bo-Katan paused in front of it was due to complete shock, but nevertheless she did pause in front of it. Bo-Katan gave the baby Mythosaur a good look at her. She's the first being the baby Mythosaur has seen. Bo-Katan doesn't know it yet, but she's now the baby's Mommy.

@@zazoreal5536 The ones of the myths are like the size of a city or something. So even if that's something of an exaggeration this one still seems pretty small. I think a Mythosaur skull was used as a castle or something like that.
Anyway, the similarities between the specific circumstances required to imprint on a baby Rancor and what Bo-Katan inadvertently did with the baby Mythosaur are too much for me to dismiss. I'd go so far as to say that the main reason they included the baby Rancor plotline was to foreshadow this.

Kuiil is in the afterlife right now looking at Din going "Go on. Ride it. I dare you. I have spoken."
When they brought up Mythosaurs in the recap, I had a feeling they'd come up in the episode at some point but not like this! I thought it would just be an illustration or something they'd see in the mines. They would touch on its history and significance to the culture and that was it. I was not expecting them to find one living under the ruins of Sundari! What an absolute jawdropper! I cannot wait to see more and the impact it has on both Bo-Katan and Din because I feel like this changes everything for both of them and I hope we get to see the full creature in all its glory.
I really want next episode picks up right where this left off. I want to see the stunned expression on her face like in The Rescue. Knowing Din, he's going to come to next episode and be like "What happened? Did I bathe in the waters?" And Bo's just gonna flip her cap about the giant creature in the waters lol

    • @IsaacKuo

It'll be deeply ironic if this makes Bo-Katan into a "believer" that Din Djarin is destined to reunite Mandalore. And even if she's not truly a "believer", she could see how the Mythosaur's appearance completes a convincing narrative that they could rally Mandalorians behind.
It's ironic, because Bo would be using the Mythosaur appearance as part of a narrative that promotes Din Djarin as the leader chosen by destiny ... not realizing that destiny has actually chosen HER to be the Mythosaur rider. The baby Mythosaur imprinted to her, not Din, and she doesn't even know it.
But this irony could be a necessary part of her journey ... by sacrificing her own personal ambitions in favor of acting in truly noble selflessness, she learns what is truly needed to lead the Mandalorians forward.

I've got a feeling the Mythosaurs are like the highly intelligent "benevolent old gods" of Mandalore, and not some violent, lesser beast. Mandalore the Great was only able to "tame" one because of his less violent nature when compared to his peers, and what the Mandalorians mistook for Mythosaur extinction was really them going underground because the people had splintered and warred with each other over nothing. There was no one worthy to lead anymore.

    • @IsaacKuo

Another unusual possibility is that the Mythosaurs simply dug in to hibernate, and their natural life cycle is to slumber underground for thousands of years so food can replenish. This is somewhat similar to the life cycles of certain insects, but on a much larger scale.

I like this idea better than grogu taming it with the Force, which frankly would be boringly predictable. We've seen beasts tamed, beaten, mind controlled, and slain a thousand times before, but the mythosaurs being actual judges of character and demanding a deeper approach than than simple brutishness to get through to them would truly cement their place as a powerful sacred icon to the Mandalorian culture. It would be a true test of character.

What I absolutely loved is how shocked Bo is to see that her supposed “legend” is real. She was probably cursing out of sheer bewilderment to see a Mythosaur in the flesh.
Question now is who would tame it, if anyone. One person somewhere else brought up the idea of Grogu taming the Mythosaur with the Force. It’s a really massive stretch, but a pretty fun one. The idea of a child (a Force user from Yoda’s species, nonetheless) surpassing the Mandalorian beast of legend and even posing as a possible challenge to the typical title of “Mandalore” would be quite an interesting mixup to the Mandalorian culture.

I think we just saw Bo-Katan "tame" the baby Mythosaur, although she has no idea. The scene where Bo-Katan is the first being the baby Mythosaur has ever seen is suspiciously similar to the way Boba Fett was the first being the baby Rancor had ever seen.
However, Bo-Katan might associate the appearance of the Mythosaur with Din Djarin, seeing as the only reason she was even there was because of Din's quest. I'm guessing Bo will be pretty confused about what it all means in the near term. It could go so many different ways in the next episode!

I think an interesting thing about the Darksaber and how Din is the one who seems to struggle the most with it is that it may be much more symbolic than we realize; the Darksaber is a symbol of leadership for the Mandalore, and the weight of it may be just as asymbolic. A character that can wield the Darksaber with ease is likely not going to bear the full burden of leadership, while Din struggles because he would. A great leader would not carelessly wield power, and a weapon that is difficult to use makes one less willing to draw it.

  • @RolandTFlakfizer
    @RolandTFlakfizer ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thanks Alex. I love your reading via Campbell. In that vein, I see a couple of parallelisms.
Firstly, the Armorer's new recruit is initiated in a body of water that contains a monster; then Din is 'redeemed' (according to the Armorer's tenet) in a body of water that contains a 'monster'. The Armorer isn't merely keeping a _tradition_ but keeping a warped _myth_ of a tradition (which I would argue warps the tradition), while Din is discovering the truth within the myth upon which the tradition is built (without which it becomes 'fundamentalist' dogma). He represets the redemption not of himself for some personal transgression but The Children (and their inferred lineage) for their collective transgression. Whether or not the Armorer accepts Din (and the _actual_ redemption he represents) will be an inflection-point for both Din (and the audience) and The Children.
Secondly, Grogu encounters the Purrgil; then Bo-katan encounters the Mythosaur. (It remains to be seen whether Din _encountered_ the Mythosaur, even though it seems likely he was dragged-under by it - although, if so, why only drag him down and leave him under? - and therefore very definitely had an encounter with it!) The Purrgil are not monsters but 'semi-sentient' ancient aliens who play a mysterious and mythological role in SW lore. Likewise, Mythosaurs, which certainly play a mysterious and mythological role in SW lore, could be more than mere monsters.
I am so encouraged that Favreau-Feloni are very firmly in the Lucas tradition of myth-making, and I love that there are SW fans who continue to parse SW 'content' mythologically (for all that industry- and current socio-cultural-analysis have their place). As far as I'm concerned, _this_ is the way ; )

I'm beginning to feel maybe the ultimate resolve to define what it means to be Mandalorian may mean all of the different practices and belief systems we've seen so far in the live action SW series... Bits of it here and there. If Mandalorians are to be united and thrive, why does it have to be one way or the other. Why not respect all and have their respective "religious groups", for lack of a better term, collectively be Mandalorian?
Perhaps the power to unite Mandalorians may be a cumulative effort, and not necessarily resting on the shoulders of just one individual. I really feel Grogu will have a part in taming the Mythosaur. His powers to do so may have been foreshadowed with that rancor in TBOBF.
Maybe Bo-Katan will be the one to master and lead with the Dark Saber. She clearly demonstrates she is a natural master of the weapon and I guess the sword agrees or otherwise is one with her.. but, how the hell did she lose it in the first place if she was so good and in-tuned with it?! We need that answered.
And, Din may be the one to lead with both of them at his side, or perhaps as a triad of Mandalorian leadership and way of living my moving forward.
The series title "The Mandalorian" may not necessarily mean a single person. But, as a group of people. Much like one could say The Jedi or The Sith as a plural term... And, I guess based on the last trilogy sequel, Skywalker may be a new term for a certain group of people in tunes and practicing The Force... Though, the that sub-title definition is still ambiguous and don't think clearly defined. Anyways, my 2 cents on where we may ultimately be headed for The Mandalorian as a series and as that group of people.

I think Bo-Katan will mentor Dinn in leadership because Season 3 Episode 2 is her rekindling her faith in the Ancient Mandalorian Traditions that should be practiced with her family under her father's guidance during her childhood. Dinn will likely become the new Mandalore the Ultimate but a more peaceful and honorable leader. Mandalore the Ultimate started as a normal Taung warrior. After claiming the helmet of Mandalore the Indomitable, Mandalore the Ultimate worked to improve his leadership skills. I think Dinn Djarin will become the new Mandalore (Mandalore the Protector is a good title). Bo-Katan and Boba Fett will probably become his ruling advisors who help Dinn how to improve his leadership skill (Bo-Katan teaches Dinn politics while Boba Fett teaches Dinn how to survive treachery). R5, still monitoring with the ship's sensors, captures footage of the Mythosaur emerging out of the ruins.

Is he the one who will lead and unite the Mandalorians? So far, he has the background of being a jedi, now training to be a Mandalorian, making him both a Jedi and a Mandalorian. All he needs now is to wield the darksaber later in season 3 or 4. Thoughts?

The lake must have been shallow before, because Bo didn't warn Din about a massive drop. Either way, the current location of that Mythosaur is far deeper than whatever depth the lake was when Bo had last been there.

I do hope the show demonstrates the disparate peoples of Mandalore select a leader because of their deserving (Din or not) - not their right by birth (Bo).

I think Bo will become Mandalore and lead her people while Din and Grogu will kinda become her right hand men. Raising Grogu as a true Mandalorian rather than a cultist.
Either that or they’ll both still be Children of the Watch but Bo will eventually consider them two of her closest allies since she’ll be fighting with them and going on adventures with them when no one else has her back and vice versa. So all three are basically outcasts right now so I feel this is a time they’ll bond and despite being from separate factions, they’ll still kind of secretly promise to back the other up when they need help.
So I see Din either keeping the dark saber for some time while Bo lays claims to the throne by taming the mythosaur rather than fighting Din or she gets both. Or hey maybe Grogu tames it.🤷‍♂️

Din has nothing to prove to Boba. Boba Fett was gifted the baby rancor. He didn't "tame" the rancor, he simply accepted ownership and imprint bonded with it. Boba simply was the first being the baby rancor saw.
I suspect this is how the original Mandalore The Great "tamed" his Mythosaur. It wasn't by brute strength or The Force, it was the dumb luck of being at a Mythosaur nest and the wrong/right time, and he was the first thing a baby Mythosaur saw. And just like that, Mandalore was the baby Mythosaur's mommy.
I'm sure that when Bo-Katan _literally_ followed Din into the water, the last thing she was expecting was that she would emerge from the water a new mommy. And yet...
