As an Aztec fan for more than 50 years thank you for your hard work getting your content out to fans all over the country. I live now in east Tennessee and you and your highlights keep me up to date. Great game AZTECS, great Bowl and 12th win in a great season. Lucas , Matthews and Bell led the Offense with stellar performances, AZTEC NATION thanks UTSA for a great, hard played game. You had an awesome season and will continue, great football program. GO AZTECS! AZTEC FOR LIFE!
UTSA was missing 22 players (!!), including 11 starters. And one of those was their best player who sat out to prep for the NFL. Just too much to overcome. Congrats to the Aztecs on the victory and a great season though. 👍🏼
Well when new stadium is built if they can fill it up constantly and continue to win they might get consideration for pac 12, but as of right now In power five eyes they are a consistent mid major who played in half filled NFL stadium and now a half filled mls stadium that's not a good look.
If the Big 12 expands again, they’ll be in the front of the conversation. SDSU is a program with a lot of potential. Once that stadium is done they’re going to draw big crowds if they can keep winning - the city of San Diego has a lot of football fans, and they don’t have a professional team anymore
@@joebandy3064 What you said is not always a good barometer for moving up to the Power 5 level. You can do all that shit you pointed out and still be stuck in a mid-major conference. Just ask BYU back in the 1980s, 1990s, and today; Boise State; Fresno State back in the 1990s and 2000s; Marshall, Hawaii, and UCF.
@@joeykelly5642 Thank you. I live in LA County, but I grew up in San Diego as a kid and young adult from 1993 to 2007 as an Aztecs fan (been an Aztecs fan since '93). The Aztecs have always gotten good fan support even when they stunk (remember the Ted Tollner and Tom Craft years?). They've been really good since the 2010s so they're going to fill up SnapDragon Stadium and try to petition to move up to the big table one of these years and they may get in.
As an Aztecs fan, that was classy and your team is not bad. Hopefully next year they will finally win a bowl game. Good luck next year and Merry Christmas.
That interception by CJ Baskerville at 9:36-9:37 was a game changer and the main reason why he got the Frisco Bowl Defensive MVP. UTSA scored one more time after that pick, but the Aztecs got super motivated and energized by that pick. After that pick the Aztecs went on a 14-7 run and dominated the time of possession game ⏲, with the latter being a key to the Aztecs 11 wins in the 2021 regular season. You let the Aztecs play their game then your ass is grass.
When Jesse Matthews made that play at 2:14, you just knew that he was going to be crucial for the Aztecs offense in this game. He carried the Aztecs passing game in 2021, and people outside of the MWC were able to see last night what a gem that kid is.
SDSU's Jonah Tavai pretty much ended UTSA hopes with that sack at 12:21. I was damn near screaming in my apartment when he made that play in real time.
Man, this game didn't look good for my Aztecs early on. The offense was flat, the UTSA defense was on every Aztec who had the ball like flies to shit, the defense was getting gashed by the UTSA running game, and so on. But then the Aztecs dug in and went on a 31-10 run after being down 14-7. I love that fire 🔥and determination the Aztecs showed in the second half.
Jesse Matthews (Offensive MVP of this game) and Lucas Johnson (senior) sold out and left all they had on that Toyota Stadium field. I'm so proud of them. The Aztecs needed all their help in this game.
Tough end to the season but it’s crazy we won 12 games in 11 years and it took SDSU 99 years to do the same. Really speaks to how far ahead as a program we are. Until next year 210… meep meep
Damn this was a good football game. That Lucas Johnson need to transfer to a bigger school for a shot at the NFL. I saw alot of potential. Anyway Go Dawgs
Here is what I'll say about the whole Mountain West is better than the PAC-12 thing. I think that the top teams (Utah St., San Diego State, Fresno State, Air Force, and Boise St.) could beat any team in the PAC-12 that's not Utah or Oregon. For Utah, I pick them as they have a very high powered offense with Cameron Rising and a defense that has been shown to absolutely shut down opponents when needed. And I know that SDSU beat Utah in week 3 after the two point conversion in Triple OT, but you have to remember that Charlie Brewer was the starter for that game and Utah didn't make a comeback until late in the third quarter when Brewer was benched for Rising. I feel like if there was a rematch today, Utah with rising as the full time starter would be able to take care of the Aztecs. For Oregon, I don't feel 100% confident in saying this, but I feel like they definitely should be able to beat every MWC team (hopefully). Even though Oregon has definitely had some bad losses this year which include the two times getting blown out by Utah with absolutely no offensive production at all, and the VERY embarrassing loss to Stanford by 7 in OT, they do have those sparks of greatness like beating Ohio State (even though it was really early in the season, it was still impressive for a PAC-12 team to do anything like that these days). Plus, they did beat Fresno St. 31-24 in week 1(at home), showing that they could beat MWC opponents. But considering how the season has gone they would probably f**k it up anyway. For Washington State, they have a solid offense with De Laura at quarterback, but I just can't see that defense standing up to the likes of Haener with Fresno State and Bachmeier at Boise St. For Arizona State, They are just too inconsistent for me to see them beating these top MWC teams. For Oregon State, they already proved less than a week ago that they can't compete with the top of the MWC, so that game speaks volumes to me about the situation. For UCLA, the offense is absolutely top notch with DTR as well as Zack Charbonet, but I feel like if they went up against a team like SDSU with the run defense, that is very possibly an L right there. For USC, all I've got to say is "How far you've fallen". Even though we won our game against the MWC earlier this year when we beat San Jose State 30-7 in week 1, that doesn't make up for all the other crap you've made me sit through this year. There are so many low moments this year that I don't even know which one to spotlight. Lets see here, we've got getting blown out at home by Oregon State, Almost losing to Arizona, which speaks for itself, giving up 62 points at home against UCLA, losing to CAL, and then worst of all... GETTING ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSED AT HOME AGAINST STANFORD!!! After that game in week two, I just knew how the season was going to go. There was no hope for us in the slightest. It's hard to believe that just 4 years ago, we had won a Rose bowl. So have fun getting Shit on by the rest of the PAC-12 and the Mountain West for years to come... But now we have Lincoln Riley so f**k all of you everything's gumdrops and rainbows again. I'm not wasting time with the rest of these teams, they're all trash and would get killed by the top of the MWC. So to review, the MWC is better than the PAC-12 minus Utah and Oregon (maybe).
Congratulations SDSU. You are still overrated but you repped the MW well. Really thought Texas- San Antonio was gonna bury you like Fresno State and Utah State did. But you showed the rest of the country who the real STUD Conferance was this year. The Mountain West Conferance.
@@bring2coinsfortheboatman3 my truth hurt your feelings huh?...sad. All comments are bias opinions and you flip out at anything different from your bias view. Ef off. You probably voted for Biden too
They choked! Their culture is a lie cuz when they needed their "brothers" most they opt out and leave the rest out there helpless. If I'm a recruit I'm looking at that and saying I don't wanna play there cuz my so called "brothers" don't really have my back they'll bail on me to get paid and MAYBE a chance have a pro career. They got lucky all year in games they probably should have lost. I can back this up by saying look at the play calling on the second drive of the bowl game when they decide to run these trick plays and plays that start with negative yards instead of going straight ahead when you already have them on their heels and assert your dominance. Then let's talk about the 4th down attempt that they burned a time out for instead of hurrying up to the line after a decent gain by your receiver in PLUS TERRITORY and calling a play you would normally call, you decide to let the NUMBER 2 run defense in the country know that you plan to run straight at them by lining up in a formation you rarely get into. STUFFED AT THE LINE !! Way to go there. Then as you get behind you decide that the best course of action is to continue to throw up the 50/50 ball to less than 50/50 results essentially making you 1 dimensional. Maybe I'm being crazy but it still also boils down to YOUR BEST PLAYERS LEFT THEIR "BROTHERS" OUT TO DRY after all year you got by on luck and talent alone. That's all I have to say. Oh by the way this is all coming from UTSA a Alum.
I saw two teams playing hard and the better team won. Congrats to UTSA for a fine year but they need to up their difficulty in schedule. Maybe they need to switch conferences or schedule more Power 5 teams for their non-conference opponents.
