Animated Pirate Bludgeon sounds like THE GREATEST THING EVER. Also, wait, Bludgeon's REDECO showed up in a Transformers TV show before he did? There's no justice. Also, RE: Future episodes: While I'd personally love to see some character-centric episodes based on Cliffjumper and Thundercracker, because those are two of my favorite Transformers characters, like... ever? If you're itching to do another episode based on a concept... how about Japanese-exclusive Transformers fiction? Or at least, Japanese-exclusive Transformers cartoons like Headmasters and Beast Wars II from that era where Japan was putting out a lot of those? Because even for longtime fans who've spent countless hours browsing TFWiki that stuff can be... a little elusive.
I did not even remember what his actual robot mode transformed into because I've only read the comic and I'm not sure they ever let him get out of his shell...
For some reason, I always imagine Bludgeon starting his paragraphs with a shout of "FOOLS!!", and cutting down the nearest Transformer (regardless of allegiance) whenever he says it...not even because he's mad, just out of force of habit. Bludgeon was a great antagonist in IDW for various things reverse-enginering the Pretender Technology from Thunderwing, creating the group itself, working for the greatest villains (and back-stabbing them right after XD) and also temporarily posessing Slug-Oh My God, he's The Superior Spider-Man.
I think the name 'Bludgeon' was moreso a tongue-in-cheek nod to his tendency for brute force instead of subtlety in earlier incarnations, rather than a reference to a weapon. Also, IDW did reuse the Mayhem Attack Squad's concept to create the DJD.
Well, there's something for fans to rejoice about: Bludgeon appearing in a supporting role in Transformers Cyberverse, once again envisioned as a ronin but lacking dialogue.
Back in college, I saw the original G1 toy at a store dirt cheap & I snatched him up. I am using the movie Budgeon figures as G1 Classics. The deluxe wheeled APC (and Wreckage repaint) as the inner robot and the Voyager Type 90 main battle tank as his pretender shell.
It wasn't Megatron beheading his Pretender shell that killed Bludgeon in TF: G2 #3, it was both of them engaged in a tank duel where Megs blow him into pieces with one shot.
I would love in a future Transformers production, he would be used as something like Kaos from Skylanders; in that he would try so hard to be intimidating and "one who could make Unicron bow to him," but he's a total joke that has WAY more bark than bite and the Autobots would just see him as a goomba who has no mute button.
Bludgeon was a Con I never heard of for years but when I saw his name in a fan fiction of all things I got curious and looked him up and just loved that idea of a samurai Decepticon and he became like my third favorite Transformer of all time with Transformers Armada Starscream being number one to this day and Demolisher taking second place. Bludgeon actually took third place from Transformers Cybertron Megatron with me.
So I noticed 1 thing about bludgeon. On the mobile game, Transformers forge to fight,I noticed his vehicle form look kinda similar to Devastator in the Michael Bay movie. A tank with 1 missile launcher on each side. So this is what I'm asking: Was Devastator really supposed to be Bludgeon in Transformers 1?
These help a lot in keeping all the characters straight. Thank you for doing them. You can spend the rest of your life doing them and not finish. 😁 There are so many characters.
Awesome basics on Bludgeon! I always enjoy that character myself. 😄 And I do wonder if an episode focusing on his Pretender counterpart Octopunch would be equally as enjoyable. ☺
Looking back it's kind of funny that after this video he made his appearance in season 2 of transformers cyberverse which in my opinion is his biggest role yet
Excellent work as ever, yes? Any chance of a more in-depth focus on the history of the Marvel UK comics sometime, like the ones you've done for IDW's line? There's just so much good stuff there, after all, from my own personal favourite TF comics story 'Crisis of Command' to the whole Galvatron saga to the underappreciated Earthforce stories - not to mention a certain Freelance Peace-Keeping Agent to boot! (He's worthy of a whole video of his own though, yes...?!)
Oh, a Marvel video is definitely on the cards. Not on the schedule yet, but it's a big topic that I haven't quite decided how to tackle yet. Death's Head... *is* deserving of a video, but not having read much of his stuff beyond the TF stories, it would be a lot of research that I'd have to make time for. This patreon-sponsored episode was a choice between Death's Head and Bludgeon, in fact!
@@ChrisMcFeely Yeah, I can imagine that a Death's Head vid that's as thorough as your usual stuff would take quite a bit of work (especially considering the whole Death's Head II thing, etc., etc....!); so no rush, yes? For my money, though, Death's Head fits in best as a TF-related character...just a shame that he couldn't show up in the IDW comics due to his rights issues, I'd have loved to see him cross paths with the crew of the Lost Light, yes? (On a semi-related note, have you ever read James Roberts' 'Eugenesis' fan-novel? It's basically an unofficial sequel to the Marvel UK TF stories that Death's Head plays a key role in as I recall, and it's a real epic piece of work...which is no less than you'd expect from Roberts, yes?).
The first time that I saw Bludgeon was in the Transformers Forged to Fight video game, and, I was so curious about him. A Decepticon samurai, that looked amazing. I almost thought that he was related to Drift in some way. Great video man!
The Marvel UK story Shut Up really freaked me out as a kid. I bought Bludgeon's toy around that time and he's been a favourite ever since. What a visual concept! I'd have been interested to see what he could have done with leadership if Megs hadn't come back in G2.
in the new cyberverse suow he becomes a key character actually, in a certain way. when megatron and optimus were trying once more to put an end to the war peacefully, bludgeon killed slipstream, preventing her to reveal starscream position and prolonging tje war as a result. the show domt state this, but i think he did so because he loved the war and loved to kill autobots too much to just let it all end, his actions resulted in a rivalry with windblade as well... truly amazjng, and he said nothing across the whole show! truly cyberverse is a great show... from season 2 on
Bludgeon should be the next big bad in a transformers movie and they should have the pretenders come in and be the bad guys and maybe introduce Metalhawk and some original pretender autobots
I want to see a Drift vs Bludgeon in season 3 of cyberverse, though I'm waiting for most of the episodes to air before I watch them, so I can Binge them

These help a lot in keeping all the characters straight. Thank you for doing them. You can spend the rest of your life doing them and not finish. 😁 There are so many characters.
Hope they keep they kanabo idea for him in future depictions, cuz that would add some Oni conotations to his already dark and supernatural background.
Awesome basics on Bludgeon! I always enjoy that character myself. 😄 And I do wonder if an episode focusing on his Pretender counterpart Octopunch would be equally as enjoyable. ☺
He's in cyberverse now as well
Can't wait to see who's next for The Basics.
Amazing video as usual
"I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos, it's fair."
This character sounds really interesting they really should try and do something with him, maybe in the next cartoon after cyberverse
I'd have been interested to see what he could have done with leadership if Megs hadn't come back in G2.
in the new cyberverse suow he becomes a key character actually, in a certain way. when megatron and optimus were trying once more to put an end to the war peacefully, bludgeon killed slipstream, preventing her to reveal starscream position and prolonging tje war as a result. the show domt state this, but i think he did so because he loved the war and loved to kill autobots too much to just let it all end, his actions resulted in a rivalry with windblade as well... truly amazjng, and he said nothing across the whole show! truly cyberverse is a great show... from season 2 on
It would be cool if the war club version bludgeon was used in some media as a weapon for a titan or combiner team
Bludgeon should be the next big bad in a transformers movie and they should have the pretenders come in and be the bad guys and maybe introduce Metalhawk and some original pretender autobots
I want to see a Drift vs Bludgeon in season 3 of cyberverse, though I'm waiting for most of the episodes to air before I watch them, so I can Binge them
Historia was a fun read Chris!
The guy named bludgeon, has a sword known for being ridiculously sharp
Fab as ever - didn't realise that he'd finally earned his name in PotP!
i never had the toy but he always stood out. long live bludgeon.
i'm super suprised that the basics on Jazz hasn't happend yet i love your vids alot btw
Underappreciated and underutilized character
And now, Iron Factory has made the most GLORIOUS toy version of him to ever exist in their Iron Samurai line
