I really enjoy seeing these clips from when MTV was about music on television. The Bangles became such a huge group in the late 80s; it is good to see them so early.
their image was more hate against the Hippie LSD 1960s culture and 1970s dinosaur Arena Rock than it was a change of pace. Proof is that they chose to go back twenty years to a pre Sgt Pepper's LHCB psychedelic mid 60s image. A change of pace in the 80s was the Euro Synth Pop of the 80s like the Smiths and Depeche Mode
The Bangles before they became The Bangles! You see the humor & the silliness that was symbolic of their carefree down to earth personality. This is what they were like before fame hit them. Annette kept them real & down to Earth.
Sam Bradley Not really. Annette left because she didn't get along with the girls. She didn't want to play bass and she wanted to be the singer. And she didn't like the music they did either. Thank God she left and Micki came in, she did have the same tastes. I don't think they would have gone far and less sold triple platinum by singing rock-a-billy, like AZ wanted.
@@@smurphftw2008 You're right, they were a team. All could sing. But they did'nt want a lead singer and it seems that Annette was not happy with her role as a bassist. She wanted only to sing, and that was part of her inconformity (she constantly left and came back, until she left definitively). Interestingly, some time later, the label turned Susanna into a kind of lead singer. But that was not the band's idea and Annette wanted to turn The Bangles into what she later managed to do with Blood on the Saddle, be a lead singer and not play any instruments. Susanna even said that she wanted to make them sing "Rock A Billy", but they did'nt feel comfortable with that music. Simply Annette was not aligned with the girls.
@@joyk555 Wow, I guess what Susanna said is wrong and you're right. Sorry, but that's total BS. They have been best friends through the years. Annette and Vicki starred in two movies together in the 80's. They asked her back when they released the Ladies and Gentlemen the Bangles album and had so much fun, they asked her to rejoin the band. It was never about not liking the music or not getting along. It had everything to do with the fact she had started her own band at the time called "Blood on the Saddle" where she was lead singer and did roots music. Both bands were getting popular and were being signed to record deals in '83. It was going to be impossible for her to do both. At least try to get your information correct.
@@rrdream2400 they may love 60s Chic as I do but they changed their looks and style once the corporatism took over. Prince was writing songs for them and they all went glam with the big hair and stiff shoulder jackets once that look became popular in the late 80s. They totally ditched the 60s style by then.
who ever said they were mod? And why should we care? They were a great live rock n roll band who were influenced by a lot of great music from the 60's and 70's.
@@rrdream2400 Prince wrote Manic Monday and probably was responsible for the orchestrations on Eternal Flame though that song just reeks of Prince overall.
@@BillDerBerg you are totally taking away from their early greatness and ignoring the fact that this is 1983! The early Bangs/Bangles were a different group from 81-84; and into 1985. So what if major-label support helped them find greater success; they are still icons and this is still a fascinating era of this band. Their '60s influences and love of rock and roll was and still is genuine. Stop pissing on them.
I feel very fortunate to have seen the Bangles open for the English Beat at the Hollywood Palladium. Annette was still with the group then.

Totally love Annette, I loved her Sandra Dee '60s look, to me, she was the best one of them all. ❤❤❤🎸
but it was schtick they had nothing to do with 1960s pop culture... their songs were completely '80s New Wave
@@BillDerBerg Not their early stuff. Their EP and first album had more in common with the 60s than 80s new wave.
FANTASTIC!!!!
Just going through there greatest hits, and Man they are GREAT!
This was before they became famous pop princesses. 👑🎸
Always so Beautiful!!
BANGLES #1
They have such a cool sense of humor, so down to Earth.
And now Annette has rejoined and they are back to their original lineup.
Oh yeah!! 😊😊😊
60s style was such a nice change of pace during the tasteless 80s.
it was disingenuous

@@joyk555 I have a hard time believing they refused to let her sing. They were a team and if she could sing they would have let her.

Elas deviam ter de ums 24 a 25 anos eu acho🇧🇷
They have that whole "Beatles Help era" thing going on in this interview.
fake as can be
@@BillDerBerg how do you know it's fake? Their love for 60's music appears to be genuine and legit.

Vallance was so edgy (for 1983 LOL).
micki
Annette ❤, sounds like the "Mickey Mouse Club ".😆😆😆
Bangles were cute and all but their 1960s pop image was just a fake schtick as they weren't Mod at all

Putt putt golf was pretty much a waste of time.
