I lived in Northern Wisconsin, and any time I left my house for any length of time I either shut the water off, or let it drip from all the faucets, then turn the furnace way down and put a space heater out for my plants. The only difference was I had a basement, and a friend to come and check on it once or twice a week. I cannot imagine how hard this is for you with no Basement! Heat tape and space heaters are great in these situations, if the electricity stays on, but you can't count on that, and also, they are fire hazards. It's crazy how cold it can get! Good Luck with that in the future, hopefully Molly will just stay there for you next time, LOL, or maybe Solar Generators? Love the skating rink idea, we had a pond nearby with a warming shack that was so much fun. I miss my Country Life!
Hannah...if the freezing drain happens again, (hopefully not 😬) instead of trying to crawl under, you can run an outdoor extension cord outside, and put a small heater under you house near as you can to the drain... Might want to put it up on a couple bricks, but not too close to the joists.. While you wait for the thaw, (could take a day or 2), just put a 5 gal bucket under your sink as a temporary catchment system... Love your vids! Especially remodeling cabin ones!
