    Very nicely done. Just a few tips in case prior comments didn't include this... I would use a firm plastic wedge tool to break the valve cover seals, maybe a firm whack or two with a soft blow hammer as well. Using a screwdriver makes me very nervous about possibility of damaging/nicking the mating surfaces of the valve covers; Also, I'd recommend a torque wrench and following the timing sequence which is center and outward along the plane. Fairly standard. Lastly, I would cover your lower intake plenum openings with shop towel to avoid dropping anything into the engine head. Hope these additional tips help.

    Nothing was torqued to spec... it’s 10nm right? For the VC bolts

    i followed this and i gotta redo my valve cover gaskets they started leaking from, the back. i recommed people watching this video use rtv sealent. idk if it some how didnt line up in the back. to hold the gasket in place.

    • @aaron_noori
      @aaron_noori 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey how did you know it was leaking from the back? I just did mine as well and wanted to look out for any leaks

    • @geoffreyaugust0
      @geoffreyaugust0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are four points, (two on each valve cover) where RTV is needed (despite what he says in the video, you absolutely need black RTV) to install the gasket but putting a TINY amount of RTV on each bolt hole on the gasket will hold it in place making it much easier to line up. Torque on the bolts is not very tight. IF you over tighten them you're going to get leaks and a crushed gasket.

    I also read you're supposed to use all new bolts for the valve covers as they get stretched over time - is that true? Looks like you used the existing bolts.

      Nope, complete bs, old bolts are just fine

      The BMW workshop manual says to replace them. See page 11 12 005: "Aluminium screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released."

    Did you just use regular shop towels with no degreaser to clean the valve cover? Also, are you sure silicone is not necessary inside the grooves? In the BMW forums the people use dreibond

      the manual says 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 15 Nm for the M7 bolts. And 4 Nm plus 45 degrees for the oil separator screws. Then, for the timing covers, 15 Nm for the M7 bolts and 20 Nm for the M8 bolts.

    Interesting video but that engine is one of the dirtiest I've ever seen. I hope the owner received a can or two of engine degreaser for Valentine's Day.

    BMW has lost its quality. From oil to coolant leaks. Engine lights on for ABS & other lights. Why ?

    • @BigMike91
      @BigMike91 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      still good quality just silly things that are extra really, lights are common for the break pad wear indicators but u can just solider them together and fix that for life, crappy pcv valve but also easy to change urself, good engines if properly maintained. and most all lights can be reset on the dash

    • @BigMike91
      @BigMike91 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      and most coolant leaks are fixed by replacing an o ring lol

      Hard to say without inspection, if yours is SULEV bring to the dealer they will have to take care of it for free, can be something serious but without seeing the car impossible to tell
