He is so awesome, isn’t he? Dimash is Muslim. Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I love these mythical sounds. You will immediately be transported into an oriental adventure film. The instrument used here is the Qobyz and it was a great idea by Dimash to use that here. The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the Qobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. In the end of Stranger he introduced him to the audience and he thanked them. He performed this song on the same show as Ave Maria, just not on the same day. As a Kazakh he speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. It's been said that he and his familys are Muslim. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. And the others I mentioned are great as well for one reason or another. All have their special skills. (Just not that familiar with Kendrick Lamar. But the little I‘ve heard is impressive. I just can’t relate that well.)

It's been said that he and his familys are Muslim. But as with all religions, there are people that twist their religious beliefs into what they interpret them to be, which makes them zealots and harmful to others. His family prictices peace and love, which is extremely relative to all of their talents. If we could all learn that lesson, we'd be so much better off.
At the beginning in Stranger it sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. That and the use of the fa minor key in the composition gives the vibe of Middle East /oriental/ exotic sound.
Think he´s singing to migrants in general: "New ground far as I can see, new ground underneath my feet, Stranger in a stranger land, new chance to see who I am if I have the strength to begin again"
Reminds me also to the Old Testament; Exodus 2:22 Moses, “And she bore him a son, and he called his name Gershom [that is, A stranger there]; for he said, “I have been a stranger in a strange land.”

Dimash is a Muslim by religion, but he studied Eastern religions and Eastern sages.
Thanks for the reaction - this is probably my favourite song by Dimash, although it is very hard to pick just one. Plus, most of his song versions are slightly different each time he sings them.
Dimash was presented with the DIAFA Contribution to Art award at the annual DIAFA (Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards) awards in Dubai on November 28/24. He sang Stranger - best rendition ever, I think!
