    Yes you did it right. Load it from the top just as it would be on the ground and don't tip in on end then load. Show in your next video of cows eating out of it especially if they have horns. I always see comments on how will cows with horns do with these.

      Thanks Tony, and thanks for the recommendation. I think it’s going to definitely help with all the waste!

    I've seen this feeder and read about the very low waste. I'm thinking of buying a Diller Ag feeder on skids. It should save a lot as well. I'll have to compare prices and ease of use.

      Hi Cathrine. Thanks for giving me another one to go research now lol. Never heard of the Diller. Hope all is well.

    Like the video I have seen these just didn't know if there worth that much don't know anyone that owns one so I'll be interested in your review after a few bales go through it.

      I will be sure to follow up. Didn’t want to give it the green light right away. Thanks for watching!

    Just finished watching your video. I was wondering how your DEXTER cows coped with sticking their head in that Bextra hay feeder as I would to get one

      Hi Natasha, The short answer is I don’t recommend this feeder for Dexters. Possibly not for any cattle considering the price to performance, but all I can really speak on is Dexters. It’s not easy for them to get to the hay in the middle and the hay at the bottom never gets eaten which means it starts composting. Not good. That being said I intend on making a follow up video on the next couple of weeks to give my final thoughts. Keep an eye out for it. Thanks for watching!

    What's it looking like after the bales you've run through it up to now?

    • @dexterranch
      @dexterranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The feeder it’s self is holding up ok. I do have some complaints about it though. Planning to do a follow up video shortly.

    Where did you buy it for the $610? All I've found are considerably more expensive than that.

      I bought mine at Clark Farm & Home True Value in Strong City Kansas. They were about $100 more everywhere else I looked.

    Never seen one that doesn't end up getting bent, and just don't get that much waste anyway, roll them out with rollers behind the tractor, that way the cattle can spread out along the line of hay.

    Any ideas how to load without a tractor? Like the idea but don't see how it's an option without a tractor.

      Hi Michael. I think if you had a smaller 4x5 bale you could possibly put it on its side and then let it down over the bale because the small diameter is around 6ft. With my 4x6 bales it got hung up. Also you would need a couple of people because it’s rather heavy. Don’t know if it would be realistic or not.

      You will need a tractor the idea for this feeder is that the bale goes in the top, and as they pick threw the stuff they like most the rest falls down into the ring and keeps the hay from being wasted.

    My dogs would make a bed 🛏️ on the lower part keeping my sheep 🐑 and goats away.

      Lol well that would work out very well.

    Why not bale smaller bales ? And better quality hay ? Smaller bales are eaten quicker and less likely to have the bale itself rained on. And cows dont pull it out of the feeder with smaller bales. Also have tin around the lower part of the blue feeder.

    Have you ever thought about using fodder?

    • @dexterranch
      @dexterranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have grown fodder. I used to have a video on it but I deleted it cuz nobody watched it lol. It didn’t work out for me. To much of a time hog, and for the amount I need to grow you really need a dedicated building to do it. It’s a very interesting idea though.
