However, if you live close to a family that raises homegrown meat or veggies, I would encourage you to keep your money in your local economy! If only there had been YT when I had my twins back in the late '90s!!!! I don't know why the idea of making freezer meals never dawned on me back when I was working FT and doing the daycare drive before/after work. OMGsh - young moms have NO idea how blessed they are with social media knowledge at their fingertips!!!!!
As a household of one, if I didn’t package and freeze things I’d either have a ton of food waste or I’d be eating a lot of take out. I’m continually packaging things in smaller portions before I even make meals. I use the space under my bed for dry good storage in my tiny apartment.
Yes. Another tip for people who have low reserves of energy or just a lot of busy kids and craziness. Pick times when you have a surge of energy for prepping and meal planning, and keep a list whether that is mental or written down. Then when you have a quiet minute or an energy surge do an extra prep item in the kitchen while you're already there. If you have to transform an ingredient or do several steps try freezing or refrigerating between the steps if you need to. Or like she mentioned, doubling and then using half the ingredients as a prep for another dish. I meal plan in fits and starts and struggle to cook, and these tips have helped me out a lot.
Or even just double the meal your making for dinner that night and throwing the other half into the freezer. I mean if your already cooking one, it didn't take any extra time to double up. Then on a busy night or when you just have no energy, dinners done.
about cheese, i just recently found out that my favorite deli takes the "cheese ends" and sells them for half price, each cheese end is like 200grams, i buy 800 grams for half price, and if you buy them for the cheese grater.... it really doesnt matter who grated them
It would be super helpful for those of us that live in small spaces to get tips on how to save money on food. Things like how to use up odds and ends to make a full meal when money is tight. How to plan meals based on what’s on sale etc…
Hi Kimmy. Im watching you I think about 5 or 6 years now, and I always love your ideas. Last 8 years I was leaving in very small village in the high French mountains Jura, so when it was snowing we were stocked at home and for a few day we were unable to go for shopping, so I had to learn how to stock food. And thanks to you we survived 😊 now we are back to our family home in Poland, but I'm still keeping saving food, as its so much saving money and my time (for both shopping and cooking). Thank you Kim ❤️
Me too. I only have 1 upright large freezer. I'm gonna wait until it cools down here in East Tennessee and pull everything out and put in coolers so I can arrange it all neatly.
I have my normal fridge freezer and 2 deep freezers. I make a list of everything I buy (meat cut wise), I have a list of all the meals I make in advance and then freeze. I have the same for my pantry and overflow. I then print these lists off, laminate them, stick them to where they need to be and then use a white board marker to write on them how much of each dinners, meat cuts ect ect I have, and I adjust it as I remove items out. I use my small freezer connected the fridge as the, if I didn’t end up using all the frozen broccoli. I will always use the left overs from the smaller freezer before I grab from my deep freezers. This way the lists smacks me in the face every time I look at my freezers and my pantry. Also makes it easier for shopping lists.
Personally, I would encourage you to start with what you have. If your cooking taco meat for instance, cook more than you need and freeze some for another meal. The other thing I've been doing regularly now more than ever, is looking at what needs to be used in the refrigerator and planning my meals around those ingredients. One last thought, focus on cooking proteins in bulk and then you'll just need sides. This has made cooking so much easier lately...
Kimmy, I have been watching your channel for several years now and implementing some of your ideas. Purchased your 4-month planner and love it. I have much more that I still want to do, but just want to say that your system is THE BEST for keeping track of freezer inventory, meal planning, etc. Thanks so much for inspiring me and teaching me so many great tips and tricks in the kitchen. I’m forever grateful!
As Usual Kimmy’s videos never disappoint! Forever in my 70 yrs. Of life never thought to freeze scoops of mashed potatoes! That will be a game changer for me for sure! ❤❤❤thanks again Kimmy for the 👀 opener!
Great tips! I buy bananas in bulk when they’re on sale, freeze them individually on a cookie sheet and seal in ziploc bags with date. They do get watery when thawed, but are perfect in smoothies and as an egg replacement in waffles, pancakes and baked goods (egg allergy in the house). I’ve used frozen bananas that were a year old and they were perfect.
I have a tendency of buying too many tomatoes. I highly recommend making a tomato galette. It’s so freaking good and easy when you use store bought pie crust. The recipe I use is from cooks country and if I’m not mistaken, TH-cam has a video.
As an Alaskan I need this. We have such a hard time with food here. I live on Valdez and the prices are so much worse here! I dont have a vacuum sealer either. Im at my wits end here! Family of 5 and struggling! Im following you now. Hope it helps us here too
Perfect video! I freeze leftovers all the time. Tonight we are having leftover fried chicken that was in the freezer from Aug.8th. I freeze mashed potatoes too but I will use fresh as the garden is producing and I need to use up what I have. Love your videos. Thank you!
Hi, Kimmy hope you and the family are well, loved the video we have a meat delivery service here in England. They also do prepped pots in case you don't have time to meal prep which is great i prep my meals most of the time and freeze it's great so you don't need to cook all the time or if you need something quick, this has been a game changer for me, i have 3 freezers now they are godsent. love to all xxx
Please keep these coming!!!! You had so many wonderful ideas! I am going to have to watch this another time around with a pen and notebook in hand. Lol So many good tips!!!!!!
Kimmy I have watched your channel since 2017, I barely knew YT. I do freeze a lot of items, recently got on the kick of IP broth. I save everything for broth....well as long as it works. Although, I have broth back up on my shelves. I save and freeze each time I can. I usually take the time each month to make sure I rotate my items and put new ones at the bottom. It's worth it and I can see what I have. Thank you❤
I appreciate this video as I have been doing meal planning and cooking on the weekends since I work a ton of hours during the week. Many great ideas--thank you!! Also, what food saver device do you recommend?
Good morning, love this video. Now I also buy in bulk. I love it knowing I am just a little ahead of the game. Question, rice flour, beans can be stored in mylar bags and stored in the pantry but not necessary in buckets.😊
Scoops of mashed potatoes!!! Good idea! I tend to make things, ie meals, sauces, sides. I guess that's a side, but I'm hooked on more meals in foil pans. Aside from getting a bunch of bread pans (slowly working on it... Very slowly 😂), I haven't figured out a better way to maximize space in the freezer. I stopped doing freezer meals for a bit, thinking i could transition to weekly menus, and I wasted more food and money😔 Cheese- I used to do shredded cheese because I was lazy about shredding myself. But with the pandemic, bricks of cheese fit better in the freezer. Guess what? It just crumbles so much easier! I mean, you could go to shred it, but it will crumble nice and easy👍👍👍 Chest freezer people; I used those thermal bags to organize. I originally got toy bins for the freezer, which also work. But the thermal bags are formed (sure, they're soft, but formed), and they help protect your food just a bit more in a power outage 👍 I have a bunch of those cooler ice blocks, so that goes on top. I can't remember my longest power outage (it was hours, not days; sorry), but my stuff just was slightly thawed (stuff being the veggies on top, not the meals and meat on the bottom 👍). I live in Arizona, if that helps, and of course my freezer is in the garage.
Thanks for mentioning this. I have a chest freezer and never feel quite happy with how it's organized, and it ends up being an unorganized mess after a bit. I will look for the bags, it's time to clean out and organize again.
@@witsonsmom729 Glad to be helpful! It took forever to come up with that. Always had stuff all over the place in the freezer🤭 IDK if it helps, but I have a card table that I decided behind the freezer was a good place to store it. Turned out to be perfect for cleaning the freezer or whatever. Maybe you have old tray tables or something; they're handy😉👍✌️
I like to buy some things in bulk but I had no idea you could freeze some of the things you talked about after cooking, so as not to waste…. Thanks so much for sharing! I don’t know why I didn’t think of some of these things🙄🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤷♀️
Ever since seeing one of your videos, i have been trying to do it at my house😂 inventory and all😅😅 ive always been a fan of bulk buying but you have so much that i can learn from 😂😂 I am so happy that I dont shop mad every week! Its also so good that we finally have a costco, so i definitely keep along with your bulk buying haha we jst need a sams club, wall mart and all that😂😂😂😂 im based in NZ and its way expensive here. I also like watching your shopping hauls cause you explain tastes and prices. Took your advice, and still taking it 😂 appreciate it x
we do not eat steaks in a normal manner in my house. I too get the free steaks from Butcher box. I actually cube and pressure can almost all my meats and seafood. I buy blocks of cheese from Azure Standard and cut them then shred them. I then add 1 tspn corn starch, shake it so all the shredded cheese is lightly coated, squeeze all the air out and make it into a roll in the bag and store it in the door of my upright freezer. Each roll is 2 cups which is exactly what I need for a recipe.
Find a buddy and split bulk food. My buddy buys bulk pasta cheaply near her whereas a sack of rice is cheaper by me so we each buy what is cheaper and we halve it. We buy a crate of eggs between three households. Another friend has a tiny home so she has part of my extra freezer where she keeps her bulk stuff. In return she will throw a loaf of bread in my freezer
Have you done these on tic toc? I think it would help a lot of people to learn how to budget, organize and stay ahead of things. Teens, moms, single parents, people suddenly on their own for the first time etc.❤
How many freezers do you have is my question. I only have 2 small chest freezers so this wouldn't be ideal unless i buy a big upright freezer for easier storage
Has something happened to the like button? I have been noticing that I am having a hard time when I am on my laptop seeing it. Today it doesn't appear to be here at all. I enjoyed the tips.
I want stock up on food pantry but I live in tiny 21 feet camper 2024 and I thought about buying a shed and make it outdoor pantry and one side of the shed inside making it walk in pantry and Wait until I save up money for shed and then buy shelves and go from there working my way up... hoping this works...
I just cleaned out my pantry and found I have two vacuum sealers. My sister said that meat needs to be partially frozen before you seal them. Is this true or can I buy a bulk package of chicken and seal them directly into individual servings?
I lay my chicken on a lined tray and freeze for a few hours and then vacuum seal it. This prevents the chicken juice from being sucked up and causing the bag not to seal. Plus, the chicken juice being sucked through the opening contaminates the vacuum sealer.
why do you know to freeze mashed potatos in chuncks, but freeze tomatos in one big batch, to have them all in one big chunk.... freeze them individual as well
Great tips. I mainly use my freezer for bread, ice cream & ready meals. I don’t cook from scratch & find it cheaper to buy ready meals & fish fingers, that way no food gets wasted.
Just be wise about it people sometimes you will save money doing this and other times you spend so much on plastic baggies, vacuum, sealers, and your electric bill to have multiple freezers, you’re really not saving that much over five or six years. If you continue to do it for 15 or 20 you might though. Try to be smart with how cute you get with it.
It really amazes me how many folks refuse to buy in bulk or have no desire to build a well stocked pantry. They'll be the main ones complaining about grocery prices. 🙄
I have a 2 yr supply and I still complain about grocery prices. I went to my local super one and the store brand olive oil 2 quart size $64.00! Yes I will complain.
I have a 900 square foot home built in the 1920s with no closets or pantry except in the bedroom and even then it’s tiny. The bathroom is so small all I have is a pedestal sink and a medicine cabinet. I do my best to buy in bulk. I have wire bakers shelves outside in the shed where I can keep a few things like sealed cans and paper products but in general buying in bulk is not possible for me for most things. I try to make use of apps that show reduced for quick sale things that are about to expire at my local store or buy from overstock sites or buy generic. Not everyone has the option to buy in bulk. Driving is not possible for me so I need to be in a city center and not haul huge amounts of stuff.
@@freeinghumanitynow I didn't buy it! I no longer use olive oil. I have switched to avocado oil. When you are out in the country it is not as easy to find a different store. I go to Costco monthly and that is where I get most of my items and also have a mormon cannery I go to twice a year to bulk buy.
To me, trying to bring my grocery expenses down, it's even more important to use every tool at your disposal to make ends meet.. whether it's extra freezers in the garage or just the space in your kitchen refrigerator freezer space. Or doing what you need to do to get by with no freezer at all. We are all at different places at different times with what we have to work with and what we are able to do. I just read your comment and wanted to encourage you. In the end, we are all working toward the same goals, and I think it's ok to say, "Hey, this is not working for me, but what can I take away that will work". I'm excited by someone's comment on using freezer bags to organize in their chest freezer, so I'm going to try it. My grandma used to wrap some of her items double wrapped, reusing bread bags and other bags that food had come in. We all figure out ways to get by. Hang in there. ❤❤❤
I am able to do this method on a smaller scale with a grocery budget of 120.00 a week for a family of 6 it’s possible. Just have to make it work for you.
No one said you had to have a $1000 monthly budget. It’s all about stocking up on what you use frequently and watching sales or in bulk when you can. Just take what you can and use that. It doesn’t have to be outrageous and over the top.
In my case it eould only be biblically clean kosher meats. Since funnily enough I am allergic to pork and all shell fish and other non kosher sea foods. I get really sick. Diarrhea and throwing up. And at times my breathing being attacked and I have asthma. Plus I am slso of hebrew Jewish ancestry threw one of my paternal great grandmother's.
It depends on the rancher and then the butcher. I do save with them. our rancher is retireing. Butcher Box is who we go to when we run out on beef. But I love their pork products and chicken. It's so clean. That's the difference. How the cows eating. The quality is unbelievable.
The ad before was of Harris saying we need to lower grocery prices. Is this a joke. Why would anyone have her ad on their channel knowing she is the reason for financially higher groceries. Do better, jeez

Freeze leftovers, freezer meals.. and i can things.. including meat, chicken, and soups, stews.. & other stuff
Love the video ❤❤❤
How do you fight freezer burn on things?? Like shrimp!
I’ve done that with avocado and when I sit them out to thaw they turn brown. I don’t know why because I use lemon juice.
Has something happened to the like button? I have been noticing that I am having a hard time when I am on my laptop seeing it. Today it doesn't appear to be here at all. I enjoyed the tips.
why do you brush the avocado with lemon before you cut it into smaller pieces?
Which digital tracker on the phone do you use. I can’t find one I like to use.
I don’t. I use my planner
@@shesinherapron thank you
I wish this video was longer !! ❤
Prices are definitely gonna go up with tariffs, so yeah, good ideas. At least inflation has been coming down this last year and is stabilizing.
I have never had good luck with freezing bread. It always comes out hard especially on the bottom.
I want stock up on food pantry but I live in tiny 21 feet camper 2024 and I thought about buying a shed and make it outdoor pantry and one side of the shed inside making it walk in pantry and Wait until I save up money for shed and then buy shelves and go from there working my way up... hoping this works...
It depends where you live. It’s best to keep things cool.
So many brilliant ideas. Thank you!!!!!!
The butcher box link wont work for me.
I got chicken last week 1.99 per lb I thought that was great price 😊 I can't afford butcher box just to expensive 😔
It’s definitely expensive
Costco baby.
why do you know to freeze mashed potatos in chuncks, but freeze tomatos in one big batch, to have them all in one big chunk.... freeze them individual as well
Keep stocked up because you never know when both cars will be broken down. It happens.
It sure does!
How is your electric bill?
I put chopped fresh tomatoes into sandwich bags for the freezer- I call it “freezer canning”😂😂
Good idea!
❤
Butcher box is not budget friendly!
I love knowing that I can set the delivery schedule and roll that into our budget. The price hasn't changed in years.
This freezer advice is ONLY good is the grid is up.
Generators are a must. 😊
Or if you have a large enough home for a freezer. I don’t.
It really amazes me how many folks refuse to buy in bulk or have no desire to build a well stocked pantry. They'll be the main ones complaining about grocery prices. 🙄
We just need to show them how to play the grocery game
I have a 2 yr supply and I still complain about grocery prices. I went to my local super one and the store brand olive oil 2 quart size $64.00! Yes I will complain.
@@lauraIngleswilder74 Lol. $64 for two quarts of oil means you need to find a new grocery store.
Unfortunayely not everyone has a $1000.00 monthly grocery budget.
I get it. 1,000 doesn’t always happen.
Just have to make it work for you.
and if I did, I have no place to put it.
No one said you had to have a $1000 monthly budget. It’s all about stocking up on what you use frequently and watching sales or in bulk when you can. Just take what you can and use that. It doesn’t have to be outrageous and over the top.
Butcher box doesn’t ship to Alaska, boo
A couple of things. First how do you do this as one person?
Second, I understand using plastic is not good for you.
I got to do better with not wasting...
Hi honey ❤❤❤
I’ve been watching your channel. You had an episode that you bought a cow and split it up. I it cheaper to do that?
It depends on the rancher and then the butcher. I do save with them. our rancher is retireing. Butcher Box is who we go to when we run out on beef. But I love their pork products and chicken. It's so clean. That's the difference. How the cows eating. The quality is unbelievable.
The ad before was of Harris saying we need to lower grocery prices. Is this a joke. Why would anyone have her ad on their channel knowing she is the reason for financially higher groceries. Do better, jeez
throw away the left over rice... keeping it too long in the fridge, bacteria that may kill you grows on it
