So, here's what I don't get about you guys..... Do you actually sit down and think about the car you're going to review before you start. This is an economy model that will most likely be driven by young drivers, perhaps small families or as a second vehicle or maybe even seniors. Do you actually believe that one of these groups I just named gives a hoot about understeer or how this car corners? The Corolla is actually an excellent car, that gets great mileage and is very very dependable. It lasts a long time and holds it's value very well.Sir, you are not a an effective reviewer.
+3HaloPlayers before this I had a 2002 corolla with over 250000 no problems only thing it was in the shop for was general maintenance only major thing I replaced was the radio and speakers. yeah it's not the best looking car or the fastest or the roomiest but for the money it really is a fantastic car. if you have less then $20000 to spend on a car this is the one to get.
This review is bs, I just got my 2016 Corolla S, I love it. By the way I'm big in to good sounding Audio systems, and for a small car, it bumps, this guy has no clue what he's talking about
woodtvnetwork I had a 2004 also, probably the most reliable car i have ever owned. Took a beating for about a 145000 miles. Then one day i went to some cheap oil change place and it starting knocking. Worst day of my life. I now have a build 1996 eagle talon and a 2015 Corolla le (couple other cars that arent running) Probably will always have a corolla as the daily driver. This review pretty much put it against a wall and beat it, and would would anyone that is in the market for a corolla get a FRS, two completely different cars. I actually get 36 MPG combined right now (75% Highway) cruising at 70 MPH.
No mention of gas mileage, trunk space, visibility, rear seat accomodations, ... you know, the stuff the target market for this car would actually be interested in.
+ourworlds atwar that starts at $25,995. The Corolla S starts at $19,295. This is a cheap A to B car, not a show "look at me" stylish family sedan. Plus a Corolla just won't die, I'd go more for a Prius if you want a hybrid or a Camry Hybrid if you want a family sedan with good MPG. I'd give KIA 5-10 years before I start trusting their hybrids and they still need a few more for their normal cars. Toyota has proven theirs time and time again.
+Xentenon Well to be honest the price is set right for what you get.My friend bought a 2013 BMW M3 & he took me for a spin & I must admit that thing was fast & "fun",but he paid lots for it & his maintenance I'm guessing is much higher than most cars. The Corolla's are just for basic use, cheap enough to maintain & like I said point A to B cars. We're all free to choose which car we prefer to drive, the world would be really Boring if everyone drove the exact same car.
thanks for the comments guys, I really thought this guy was right and then after I read all the positive comments about corolla I will buy corolla 2016 S Special Edition
Have you checked Consumer Reports car dependability results? Both Toyota and Hyundai are in the top 10. Ford isn't yet Ford sells a lot in the US. Weird how that works, huh? The truth is, most cars these days are very reliable for the average user save for brands like Jeep which always score very low. A Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda will get you to point A from B without trouble in the long run. The difference is becoming very minimal.
my God, you could not be more wrong about this car, this car handling is fantastic, it is quite and extremely nimble. The transmission is flawless, it has all the basic technology you ever need. The stereo speakers are truly awesome. I love the sport button that you want to take out, it increases the engine rpm and makes the car faster and more fun. The paddle shifters are very responsive, it has tire pressure monitoring system, beautiful alloyed wheels, four wheel disk brakes that are just fantastic, it has gear indicator that shows which gear you are in when in sport mode. The engine has been around for many years and it is bullet proof. It has traction control system, led lights mixed with regular lights that give you a great high beam. I can write 10 pages about this fantastic car and all that for 20 K, by the way I love the low profile tires and the way they handle. Please be honest when you review cars, tell the truth.
Dude, this car's handling is fantastic, specially because it has low profile tires. It has paddle shifters that make it more fun. I have driven the big American made cars, they are fast but out of control and they eat gas like there is no tomorrow. This car is a precision made piece of equipment. If I had lots of money to blow, sure I wood drive a Z4, but for average Joe, this car is fantastic.
A mazda 3, a civic, a sentra ser all handle far better and drive far better than this thing. You could get a fiesta st for the price which clearly handles 100x better. It's the worst handling and slowest car of its class.

The steering is twitchy, but there is more body roll than a car of its class should have, a rough ass ride and god awful power. Worse than ive ever experienced. I think a manual might be tolerable, but youd still have to romp on it constantly to have it go anywhere. Seriously though, just get a fiesta st or save up for a focus st if you want a decent 4 door car. This is god awful.
I think your intention is to advertise negatively for this car, this is a great car, it has good acceleration, great performance, very good quality interior and priced very reasonable. The S model that I own has 4 wheel disc brakes. it has backup camera, it has low profile tires, it has traction control, it has paddle shifters. I love this car. I get about 35 mpg. And it is a Toyota quality, you can not fool consumers, we are very smart,
the sport mode makes the car less responsive... what??? I've driven my '16 corolla s in many different conditions and situations to know that everything you've said is completely false. the sport mode makes the car 10000% more responsive. the hesitation is only noticeable when going uphill at a low speed, and the CVT is not 'rubber bandey', its actually a steel alloy. Subaru's have a terrible standard stereo system, the one on the corolla is not at all bad for a standard system, i'm sure you fiddled with the equalizer like a 2 year old making the audio quality horrible. you have 0 knowledge in the car and shouldn't be allowed to review cars. unbelievable.

Sport mode isn't as horrible as you're saying in this review. It's a lot of fun, you just have to find the groove of the CVT shift points. For the cost this is a great commuter with a little bit of flare
I work for enterprise rent a car and I drive corolas everyday. It's probably one of the best cars to drive. They drive better than bmws if you ask me. The response time of the pedal and the car accelerating is way better. Bmws take time and having all the power in the bmws feels like a pull when you accelerate. The corola is a lot better.
Talk about Bias. What about fuel efficiency. What about resale value What about build quality????? Sack this guy and get someone in who doesn't want to drive a BMW
The XRS with the manual is the sporty driving corolla model to get if you want sporty. But I must say it looks great inside and out. The corolla is a simple car that dependable and easy to learn and use. Great car for people who want a easy going car. I wonder whats the next gen is gonna be like
+igeekone Not only that, if you take it on a long drive....its really tiring because of how low the car sits and practically you feel all of the bumps magnified. I don't know how the reviewer of this vid says it can be a good choice. You can't drive 3 hours straight with the FR-S without having back pain.
This reviewer sucks. I have a top of the line 2016 Corolla S Premium with heated seats, sunroof, sport mode, sport seats, navigation, paddle shifters, etc. I average 37 MPG, fill up with $20, insurance and routine maintenance is cheap. The majority of people don’t want a sports car but a reliable car that will take them from point A to B. Corolla has done that for over 50 years.
Dude, corolla is the vehicle for the world. If you don't believe me, check the stats. Corolla is the vehicle for the smart peoples who values their hard earned money. It's practical and efficient and hold its value. I own the 2013 model and 10 to 12 years from now if I want to sell it, I'll probably get 40 to 50 percent of my money back. But that's not going to happen, because I'll keep driving it. Enough said.
Amsoil has made a 100% Synthetic CVT fluid, compatible with steel belt and chain-driven CVTs, available for all vehicles with CVTs. It meets all manufacturers OEM CVT fluid requirements and beats OEM CVT fluids with quality and longevity.
I'd rather have Brian or Emme here. Antuan just doesn't do Car Tech justice. He's still got some way to go, kinda like the Corolla. Maybe that's why they chose him for this video, SMH.
KenniTheKid Yeah I've heard that one a million times. I know no one cares (except you because you had to tell me). I understand Antuan is ok too, but he's no where near Brian or Emme's level. I guess I just prefer Brian's jokes and Emme's spunk. What can you do?
The only real competitor I see against this car is the Civic, if you need a car for 5+ years, you get a corolla or civic, if you want a car for up to 5 years get an Elantra or a Mazda 3 because they are both nice cars, but will not last for long. The civic and Corolla are both opinion based, especially the interior, I like the Corolla interior because it's the same as my dad's Camry dash setup so I'm already used to it compared to most modern Honda's having a Mercedes inspired dash setup. Also they'll both probably last for 10+ years and need low maintenance
They've been sitting on their butts with this one. The 2016 Civic or 2014 onwards Mazda 3 offer much more compelling vehicles all around. Don't see why one would choose the Corolla over them.
Personally I think most auto manufacturers are relatively reliable today; in fact consumer reports says that Toyota Mazda Subaru Honda and Hyundai have some of the best reliability ratings. If most commuter cars have reliability under there belt why choose the Corolla. Specifically the Corolla is quantifiably less powerful and less technologically advanced for the money by comparison to its competition. It has better mpg and starting price then some but is not the best. I think that Toyota sells well because of its reputation for reliability and follows a philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" which to me means outdated uninspired products like the Corolla Camry and Yaris. I think the Prius Avalon and FRS are very competitive but in general I don't think Toyota warrants its astonishing sails by comparison to its rivals.
people like my brother who don't care the least bit about cars except the gas military and reliability are who this car is aimed at the red and black wheels is just a little plus. people like myself who value driving dynamics over those things wouldn't even consider this
The "previous" if you can call it that, Toyota Camry was so ugly they had to redesign it two years in when the new Accord came out. Now with the new Civic, don't be surprised to see an updated Corolla if Toyota even cares. The Corolla had 2 6-year generations! 00-06 & 06-12, they were getting too comfy.
In the beginning of the video why is he reviewing the car as if it was a sporty car. This car is meant to be a daily driver that's easy to drive, not some sporty sedan you would take on a Sunday drive.
thanks Darin. yeah I like chevy trucks and Ford mustangs. the hondas were the daily drivers but that will soon be filled with Toyotas. Overall honda quality seems to have slipped.
Not the same amount of money as a FR-S. I got a 2015 S Plus for $21000 and some change out the door for 5 years. My brother has a 2016 FR-S for $33,000 after 5 years. And the Corolla doesnt require Premium. FR-S does. I get at least 29MPG.
This is a horrible "review". You didn't review this car. You just pointed out what YOU didn't like about it. To properly review a vehicle you need to be a neutral party and compare specs, give your opinion, and point out good and bad. This is just a splurge of your shitting on the Corolla's life. Bring Cooley back, he's an actual car reviewer.
This guy forget something, Corolla is not performance car. People buy corolla because of reliability. Can't go wrong buying this car. That 1.8L engine is proven, Toyota will not mess it replacing it with turbo like Honda.
>2016 car, still uses a 4 speed auto on base trim. >Every rental lot has thousands of them. >Same car since 2014. >Terrible resale value. 2014 Corolla LE is going for as much as the 2012 Civic EX. >Only non-hybrid Toyota to use a CVT. Lolwut. Alternatives: Good shit: 2016 Civic Cheap shit: 2017 Elantra Fun shit: 2016 Mazda3
Native722 Toyota is a good company but they just need to get their shit together and update their damn lineup more frequently. It's amazing how they haven't changed the Tacoma in 10 years and they expect people to even look at them. Shame.
I have a 2014 Toyota Corolla and it's the same exact like this one, it not that bad it's nice, but I'm trading it for a Honda Civic coupe 2016, don't get me wrong it's a good car. But i just want something more sporter
I own 2005 corolla and went to a Toyota dealership. They are still using a lot of the same buttons.... :[ and also I would think they would want to add more power knowing that a base model civic and other cars in its class have alot more power.
I've been driving a 2016 corolla S for a couple years now and I gotta tell you the Sport mode is pretty good actually. Next time take some driving lessons before you try and review a car!
+Mitul Jariwala Except reliability. First year production of any car model should be avoided, as they often have quality control issues to be taken care of. Toyota Corolla runs on an ancient technology, but this is exactly what makes the car so reliable.
I don't agree with this guy first of all I've driven that similar corolla for about two years the speakers are pretty good stock and the frs isn't near the same price its 10,000 bucks more
This review is dead on. I just picked up a 2014 Mazda 3 GT yesterday and the way it drives compared to this is night and day difference. The Corolla is a great car if all you care about is going from point A to point B and looking for reliability. Other than that, this is the most boring car ever. The Civic was okay but again for the price point why not have something that is a little more exciting? I went into the dealership wanting a bland car but once you get behind the wheel of something a little more exhilarating it becomes clear what the best car in this class is. Again, if you don't care remotely about how a car drives and just looking for transportation then this is a clear choice. For the rest of us that prefer a compact car with a focus on driving then the Mazda 3 GT is the way to go. (I say GT because the Sport and Touring models are as boring as the Corolla).
3:21 i find this line funny. i decided to go buy a car and my dad made me test drive the carola s. i hated it. then i went and bought a subaru brz. let's just say my dad isn't very pleased 😂
with all due respect, you do not know much about this car, specially when you say that a scion FRS is the price. The FRS is about 10 grand more than the Corolla. I also love the sport mode. it makes the car much faster.
You stated that the audio system is more or less trash, with poor sound. Can one switch out the Corolla's audio set up with a cool aftermarket system, with better speakers, subwoofer, and tuner? I know the audio system is touch screened based, so would the addition of a new and better sound system be a hassle? Same with the 6 speakers??? I sure would appreciate a reply when you can. By the way, did you find the S version's steering feel to be improved over the standard Corolla? Peace... ♐
Its funny how the 'copycats' do it better than the original then, isnt it. Every car in segment is better in every way than the corolla. And same price.
People who buy this car is those who look for simple, reliability, efficiency and value for money in daily usage.
So, here's what I don't get about you guys..... Do you actually sit down and think about the car you're going to review before you start. The majority of people don’t want a sports car but a reliable car that will take them from point A to B. Corolla has done that for over 50 years.
2015 Nissan Sentra baby, that trunk space you can't beat it!
Corolla S $22-24k
Camry SE $24k
Scion iM $20k
All with rebates, choose wisely.
+Kamaka Chang def the new 2016 civic
+edwinlee4 *cough* fanboy
Bring back Brian:(
bring back Brian:/ for sure
I'd rather have Brian or Emme here. Antuan just doesn't do Car Tech justice. He's still got some way to go, kinda like the Corolla. Maybe that's why they chose him for this video, SMH.
KenniTheKid Yeah I've heard that one a million times. I know no one cares (except you because you had to tell me). I understand Antuan is ok too, but he's no where near Brian or Emme's level. I guess I just prefer Brian's jokes and Emme's spunk. What can you do?
The first generation Corolla still looked the best, by far.
I liked the rain. Probably the first rain shoot for Car Tech,
We have a 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2016 Corolla in our family. We used to have a Mazda 3 and a Kia Forte. Used to because reliability was not their suit.
L trim & manual transmission for me. I DON'T NEED or WANT the extra junk installed in these more expensive trims.
People buy corolla's for reliability, put fuel..change oil..change brake pads...add ac gas.. no headache no trouble
Thanks Mike Tyson for a great review!!
with the new civic, who the hell would buy this .....
+Unchainedmaple888 No kidding, even the upcoming face-lift wouldn't stand a chance.
+Unchainedmaple888 Rental companies, fleet companies, people who don't know what a car is, 80 year olds, and auctioneers apparently.
The new civic looks like a 2016 Prius competitor
are you kidding me, the civic looks incredible and especially for the price, the civic interior is decades beyond the corolla interior.
Unchainedmaple888 Agreed,
Pshh my 2015 Elantra just broke down on me my wife's 2015 Corolla still up and running....
Also they'll both probably last for 10+ years and need low maintenance
was this really a review?
+Joe Antonio Yes and it was a great one.
I have seen car commercials on TV that are longer and more informative than this "review." But it's fine if you liked it.
Just shut up Joe
Hopefully they are just using this guy for some cars and keeping Cooley on the better cars and other car stories!
They've been doing that for months already if you couldn't tell...
All he did was hate on the Corolla.
132 is slow. My 2007 Honda Civic has 140 hp and this Corolla is a 2016.
In which world is a Scion FRS priced equally to a Corolla ? Also was this a review or your rant on why Corolla is a bad car?
better than civic, cruze and elantra. don't hate the corolla
They've been sitting on their butts with this one. The 2016 Civic or 2014 onwards Mazda 3 offer much more compelling vehicles all around. Don't see why one would choose the Corolla over them.
It's a Toyota thing most people don't get! Just wait till the Corolla gets a refresh too
I had 25k and went out and bought a c6 corvette. best choice I ever made
He just doesn't want to review this car, why don't you review a Lamborghini instead lol.
This was great on the twisty road with a short ram intake on manual mode with shifting the paddles
Oh this guy. No thanks. Stopped watching.
Idk what this negative review was about. It's a Corolla. And it's very good for what it is.
And why did you compared the bose sound system into the corollas stock sound system.?
I think the Prius Avalon and FRS are very competitive but in general I don't think Toyota warrants its astonishing sails by comparison to its rivals.
toyota is the best car
people like my brother who don't care the least bit about cars except the gas military and reliability are who this car is aimed at the red and black wheels is just a little plus. people like myself who value driving dynamics over those things wouldn't even consider this
Toyota Corolla is the only one car I know that can run almost 24/7 for ten years.
It's strange how Toyota decided only to put a single climate control instead of dual. Great car.
This car very popular back in 08 when gas price is high.
Thanks for a great review
In the beginning of the video why is he reviewing the car as if it was a sporty car. This car is meant to be a daily driver that's easy to drive, not some sporty sedan you would take on a Sunday drive.
thanks Darin. yeah I like chevy trucks and Ford mustangs. the hondas were the daily drivers but that will soon be filled with Toyotas. Overall honda quality seems to have slipped.
Yes, definitely go with the new Civic, Elantra, Mazda 3, or even the Scion iA.
Even for a car this boring, I bet Brian Cooley can make this video sound interesting to everyone.
Corollas don't deserve Cooley.
Lolwut.
Alternatives:
Good shit: 2016 Civic
Cheap shit: 2017 Elantra
Fun shit: 2016 Mazda3
+icantw8 Agreed, the corolla needs to stay competitive with Honda Civic and others.
Native722 Toyota is a good company but they just need to get their shit together and update their damn lineup more frequently. It's amazing how they haven't changed the Tacoma in 10 years and they expect people to even look at them. Shame.
The Hachi Roku & 05-06 Corolla XRS were the best
Speaking like MiKe TySoN
now why is it bad to use the Sport button on the Corolla S?
no the frs starts as base 25,000 and are usualy on lots 27,000 id say if you want more performance go for the new civic 1.5
This car is a joke.
I hate this reviewer too.
He actually called this plain ass car over designed. Dumb.
Your a joke
Was that hail / snow?
I have a 2014 Toyota Corolla and it's the same exact like this one, it not that bad it's nice, but I'm trading it for a Honda Civic coupe 2016, don't get me wrong it's a good car. But i just want something more sporter
It can be difficult to speak critically of the Corolla S? Well you did for about 3 and a half minutes.
I own 2005 corolla and went to a Toyota dealership. They are still using a lot of the same buttons.... :[ and also I would think they would want to add more power knowing that a base model civic and other cars in its class have alot more power.
Why are you holding back? This is one of the worst vehicles in the segment. By pulling your punches, you're doing your viewers a disservice.
I've been driving a 2016 corolla S for a couple years now and I gotta tell you the Sport mode is pretty good actually. Next time take some driving lessons before you try and review a car!
Antuan is getting really good at this.
2016 CIVIC IS WAYYYYYYY BBBBBBBBEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRR
lol yup..what I'm getting
+Mitul Jariwala
Except reliability.
First year production of any car model should be avoided, as they often have quality control issues to be taken care of.
Toyota Corolla runs on an ancient technology, but this is exactly what makes the car so reliable.
+Mitul Jariwala Old people brand
Honda Fanboys
I rather a Corolla and Sr20det swap my Nissan hardbody and smoke a civic Ex T
How can I tell the difference from a 2014 Toyota Corolla s and a 2016? Are the 2016s only push to start ?
...did you shoot with a phone? What is wrong with your focus?
I don't agree with this guy first of all I've driven that similar corolla for about two years the speakers are pretty good stock and the frs isn't near the same price its 10,000 bucks more
why didn't you point out that they give you a lifetime warranty on the motor and transmission
(I say GT because the Sport and Touring models are as boring as the Corolla).

i find this line funny.
i decided to go buy a car and my dad made me test drive the carola s. i hated it. then i went and bought a subaru brz. let's just say my dad isn't very pleased 😂
I’m thinking of buying a Toyota Corolla 2016 s as my first car is it worjtnit
with all due respect, you do not know much about this car, specially when you say that a scion FRS is the price.
Peace... ♐
The Corolla is the best selling car in the history of cars. Your review shows you prefer copycats and junk that tries to keep up instead.
Its funny how the 'copycats' do it better than the original then, isnt it. Every car in segment is better in every way than the corolla. And same price.
+Joel BIelecki you think they do but the quality and features aren't anywhere as good.
