if someone doesn't have a passport of his home country (on them) doesn't mean they are no longer of that nationality... they would have to have renounced their citizenship in their home country in order to not be of that nationality, so they would have made themselves stateless long before they reached the us border.
We cannot determine the consequences for making the decision to break into a country illegally. Would any of these considerations be made if we as Americans broke into a country illegally and illegally siphoned funds away from citizens??? There are currently over 250,000 already here, that the current DHS cannot account for. Also, you called these people stateless, but they made themselves stateless when they decided to leave their countries.
