This has to be one of the best headphone reviews I have ever watched. Seriously man. I’ve watched hundreds of reviews over the years and I wish they could be this elucidating. Great job.
I had LCD-2C on my head a few days back and I have to say Audeze is amazing. Any of their models from LCD line are so comfy! It's like you're putting your ear in a spacious room and nothing inside touches it. Sound is very detailed, awesome mids & vocals, this warm signature is great for jazz and classical
Great visualization of looking up in space with the start shining through (3:40). The LCD4 creates a great fabric of space that ties together all the musical objects in a really satisfying way. And these musical objects are dense and rounded and full of substance. Again, fine review! 'enjoyed it a lot. Yep it's heavy, but it involves a commitment to a super engrossing listening session that pays off incredibly well. Each session is memorable. I recall the great sound for a long time afterwards. (True about the LCD3. I love the LCD4 highs. No fatigue on the LCD4, but sweet and real.)
I love my LCD-4z headphones. Very 3Dimensional headphone with super deep imaging. They are warmer than my LCD-ax’s, but not too warm. The LCD-x sounds more 2D, while the LCD-4 and 4z is very much an enveloping sound. Also, despite only being 15 Ohms, the 4z’s need a good quality headphone AMP. The Chord Hugo 2 pairs wonderfully with the 4z. Another thing with the 4 and 4z is that you need to turn up the volume higher than the LCD-X, to achieve their full potential and range. Oddly enough the increased volume on the 4z does not equate to any uncomfortable level of sound. It’s like the 4z requires more power to drive the technology inside them than the LCD Xs. Anyway, that’s my personal experience with my Audeze LCD-4z and LCD-X. Thanks!
Have you heard both, the 4 and 4z's? I have read reviews and blogs that they have conflicting opinions on how they sound compared to one another. Some say they sound exactly the same and others say the 4 is more euphonic.
I heard LCD4 at Can Jam 2018 in NYC. I heard them on a popular, (but I forget what it was!) $3k balanced amp, I heard them on Audeze's Dekard amp.. And I heard them on the Violectric v281. On the first two amps, they had the very classic, Audeze sound. Very gooey, warm, lush. If I wasn't paying attention, I could think them muddy at a glance, but all the detail is there when I focused on them. I found that the LCD4 really had that special something.. Joshua maybe right that they don't have the most technically superior sound stage. However, I found that they had a really amazing way of making each individual sound stand in its own space and have a very, real, 3D sense to it. I found that they were able to bring out the dynamics, even in overly flat recordings. I listened to a bit of metal that I like, but that uses too much compression and always sounds like a flat wall of sound.. Well, the LCD4 brought me right up on stage next to the lead singer and I could feel where each other band member was positioned. I actually looked down to make sure I was still seated in my chair. So, I didn't mention the v281 yet. I don't know what goes on inside that thing.. It stripped away all the lush goo and made the LCD4 sound like an electrostat, with the speed and razor precision I had just been exposed to in the STAX room... Yet, with all the base and body and depth you expect from a flagship planar. And with such sheer power of delivery. I can't properly explain it. This combination completely blew my mind. It was almost $9k worth of kit including the DAC. If I could spend that money on audio gear with a clear conscience, it would be on my desk right now.
Zack W Your summary here is so much better than Josh's...I own the LCD 4's and partner them with top end gear. As with any top tier headphones, its the only way to hear them properly. Any reviewer worth his salt wouldn't dream of doing a serious review of 20k speakers with a couple of grands worth of kit, but it seems to have become the norm with headphone reviewers thinking its ok to do similar with hp's...it isn't!

But once you pass the $300 mark, give or take, you're into a realm where everything but Beats is good and it comes down to preference, to a large extent.. Which he expresses too. I can understand everything he says about the LCD-4 and I simply like it better than he does. I also have heard it on an amp that really makes it shine. If not for that, I would say it is really good, but ultimately not worth the money. As much as I hate that the asking price is triple what I could get for my car, I know it is worth the money. Audeze knows that too. In a perfect world, they would sell it for more like $1000 and probably still make a profit, considering the sales volume they would see. Hello, would you recommend upgrading from Lcd-3? For music listening only. lcd-3 has that relaxed sound. lcd4 should be even more precise. is there also this musical and pleasant charm? Thx
Daniel Guimarães planars are more power hungry than dynamic headphones anyway. So a planar with an impedance of 200 ohms and a sensitivity of less than 100, is going to need a lot of power to reach its full potential.
I know, I have an LCD 2, it plays very decently out of my LG V30 (which has a quad dac and hifi integrated amp), but it really shines with my Magni 3. I mean, would the LCD 4 play well with the Magni 3?
I've got a riddle for you all. How come this gets frequently sold for 715 on German amazon used, in 'like new' condition? It looks fishy as hell, but there are reputable sellers among them, and this isn't an isolated case, as I mentioned it happens frequently. So, just out of curiosity, what's going on?
I wish I had a similar experience of the treble - it was bloody murder to me. Exactly like your description of the LCD-3 where you just had to turn it down.
While this is an awesome review could you please tell me which pair of headphones is better for listening to house music: Sennheiser 660s or Beyerdynamic DT1990?
Eli The only thing the 660's really have over the 1990's is vocal clarity, everything else is either matched or beaten by the 1990's. So for your sake, I'd go for the Beyers.
From the reviews I've heard and being an electronic music fanatic I would look to get the DT 1770 over the 1990. But one is open and one is closed back so that could be a deciding factor for you. 1770 seems to be better for bass influenced music from what I hear
@ Joshua Valour the most important thing you did not point out putting is this headphone on head over 6hr will bring you serious headache due to too much mid and base. it is not about tonality or everyday use, heft of mid and base is blowing you away into serious headache over hours, not even mentioning the real weight of LCD4. For everyday use you have to manually eq it to make it sound like balanced.
Nice review, a bit pricey, but when I sell that last kidney I’ll be first in line. My only concern (apart from being on dialysis), is will these babies slide off the back of my head when I’m reclining in my Eames lounge chair listening to something classy?
Hi-Fi Insider I have been hesitant between audeze lcd and abyss ab. From many reviews, it seems like they have similar sonic signature and cosmic featured by strong bass, heaviness, and immersive planner sound. I watched your review of lcdi4 where you compare it to susvara. I couldn’t help doubting it in that I don’t think lcdi4 will sound like susvara.
I also auditioned LCD4 and Stax 009 in my local high fi store. I preferred LCD4 I THOUGHT THEY WERE PUCHNY AND BASSY AND CLEAN DETAIL. LCD4 IS extremely heavy AND THATS WHY THE PRICE IS GOING DOWN ON THEM. NOW ON STAX 009 THEY ARE VERY COMPORTABLE I COUDN'T BELIEVE IT. ARE THEY GOOD THEY ARE BUT THEY ARE NOT WORTH THAT MUCH.
I like all your reviews, Josh, and value your opinion but you and Audeze Planars were NOT meant to be! When god made your eardrums, he said "Thou shalt not like Audeze headphones!" lol
OK. So like your reviews... Can't say I love them...yet...But i do see the potential. My free two cents: 1. Close the aperture a little... Sometimes the texture isn't visible like that on the HP when you were showing the rose wood color... Very shallow DoF there; 2. Always... Always mention the Amp requirements when reviewing a Planar Magnetic Headphone; and 3. Love your color themes... But a dark background isn't always as appealing... Just check out MKBHD's backgrounds...they look more fun. Best of luck!

would you recommend upgrading from Lcd-3? For music listening only. lcd-3 has that relaxed sound. lcd4 should be even more precise. is there also this musical and pleasant charm?
Thx
Would you say the LCD-4 is good for bassheads?
Theeese or LCD-X?
For him lcd X
lcd-x
Ok now review the *4z* :D
Well, with an impedance of 200 ohms and 97 db of sensibility I guess it's a relatively easy to drive set of planars then?
Nope. Very hard to drive. Not Susvara hard, but definitely hard.
so I guess I know nothing about amplification, because those numbers are very deceiving, then 😛
Daniel Guimarães planars are more power hungry than dynamic headphones anyway.
Daniel Guimarães The Magni 3 inputs 420mw into 300 ohms. So I think it will be fine.
Someone send this man Stax! I would love to hear your opinion on one of the stax sr-omega headphones
A ZMF Eikon review coming any time soon?
Not yet unfortunately:/
Is it overpriced?
Truthseeking Troll no
Isnt it like 4k or 5k dulla???
LitBaiter yea I saw it for like 4,000 it’s crazy expensive
I wouldn't say it's overpriced for this piece of art, but it definitely could be cheaper
@@skylordsrebornpvpreplays5795 got mine a demo fron a high end audio store with full factory warranty $2850..i thought it was a steal!!!
Please review lcd 4z how does it compare to the 4
I've got a riddle for you all. How come this gets frequently sold for 715 on German amazon used, in 'like new' condition? It looks fishy as hell, but there are reputable sellers among them, and this isn't an isolated case, as I mentioned it happens frequently. So, just out of curiosity, what's going on?
I really don't know, but all I can say is, if it seems too good to be true...
I wish I had a similar experience of the treble - it was bloody murder to me. Exactly like your description of the LCD-3 where you just had to turn it down.
I know I’m late to the party, but do electro planar headphones need special amplifiers like electro static ones do?
No, but this headphone will require a lots of power, several watt amps
manish maharjan okay, thanks!
Any possibility of the verum one showing up in a review?
Actually, yes, it's possible. No specific plans yet.
What exactly are these for, to make them cost $4000? What makes them so expensive.
Exactly!
Technical performance and build quality
to me the look alone is worth the asking price lol love that retro look and not really heavy heavy likee what Josh is trying to describe..
Positing, I understand. But what do you mean by "Tonal" ?
Saving for LCD-X :)
what is the stand for the headphones do you use in the video? i mean that silver aluminium stand in 3-40
What else would give the voices and dark tones ...of the 4 ...for less money?
What else ...for 1k or 1,5k...better than LCD 2
What headset wpuld be best for me as im too sensitive for high picthed noice which leads to tinnitus, im looking at DT1990 / Dt1770.
When the noice/sound gets very high picthed/light my right ear gets tinnitus*
So what are these used for i got it on an ad?
RHEC ICE mainly to warm your ears during winter...
@@itsabodh nah like the actual use because thats a lot money to just listen to music
@@rhecice2462 to listen to great music, with great sound. cheap garbage doesnt compare to these.
I wonder if there is anything Josh loves 🤔

Joshua Valour the most important thing you did not point out putting is this headphone on head over 6hr will bring you serious headache due to too much mid and base. it is not about tonality or everyday use, heft of mid and base is blowing you away into serious headache over hours, not even mentioning the real weight of LCD4.
Antoine P when you sell the last kidney, write a note to strap these headphones to your skull, that will prevent them from sliding off
They should do a carbon fiber version
That would be sexy af.
LCD-4 for details, LCD-MX4 for enjoyment.
Please review the monolith m1060c , I really want to hear your opinion on those. They seem to impress lot of people.
It’s on the list. Not sure when though.
I like the 4z
Hi-Fi Insider I have been hesitant between audeze lcd and abyss ab. From many reviews, it seems like they have similar sonic signature and cosmic featured by strong bass, heaviness, and immersive planner sound. I watched your review of lcdi4 where you compare it to susvara. I couldn’t help doubting it in that I don’t think lcdi4 will sound like susvara.
It doesn't look like a case u can bring to airport
The parameter of tonality trumps anything else imo
What makes this thing cost 5.000€? I dont understand it...
I know you'll reveal the MSRP, and I'll freak out. Ah well...
Will there be a review of Sennheiser HD800S?
That's right! I'm a grown ass adult, without $4000. :.(
4500$!?!??! for that price i wish i can litteraly see the band
review some superlux
Hyper x cloud Alpha review?
"Would do some mimicking with the gloves but they're small, don't really fit my hands" LOOOOL great sense of humor 🤣
Holy fuck
👽ISINE LX 🛸✨🙌
I like all your reviews, Josh, and value your opinion but you and Audeze Planars were NOT meant to be!
When god made your eardrums, he said "Thou shalt not like Audeze headphones!" lol
OK. So like your reviews... Can't say I love them...yet...But i do see the potential. My free two cents:
1. Close the aperture a little... Sometimes the texture isn't visible like that on the HP when you were showing the rose wood color... Very shallow DoF there;
2. Always... Always mention the Amp requirements when reviewing a Planar Magnetic Headphone; and
3. Love your color themes... But a dark background isn't always as appealing... Just check out MKBHD's backgrounds...they look more fun.
Best of luck!
Really underwhelming. I can’t believe this is totl.
Christ dude slow down lol
LOL.. "Grown Ass Adult" $4000.. haahaaa
lol, for 4k they are not cheap but for a second hand price they are incredible
In English plz!
i would never afford these.
It so ugly....
really? take a look at the Abyss 1266...now that is FUGLY!!!
